I hear a lot of discussion about how girls think about themselves as sexually older and more experienced thanks to socialisation and how men project sexual maturity onto children, but I don’t think it’s discussed enough that girls are taught to sexualise their own youth and view themselves as living on very limited time in which they can see themselves as illicit, tempting and even attractive for being underage. It’s part of the overall package where we see ourselves through the eyes of men older than us.

The solution to being obsessed with your appearance is just to get a busy job and/or start working on actually achieving things like I promise you can’t waste time on the shape of your eyebrows when you’ve got competing deadlines. I promise you’ll realise how unimportant your pore size is, when you’re kicking academic or career goals or trying to build something or doing some complicated task. I am begging any woman who is fixated on her face/body to get an intellectually rigorous job or a hobby or focus on a high-intensity sport or some shit. Just do anything that takes you out of your head like I’m not trying to be mean but you can defeat this loser, self-limiting behaviour

I didn’t just mean ‘be so busy you can’t stop and think about your body’, I meant that when you have external sources of success that depend on your abilities, not your appearance, you’ll stop placing so much value on what you look like. Find something else to care about, prove to yourself that you can achieve cool things and who you are matters and has gravity, and you’ll instinctively stop placing such an emphasis on how you look when you’re doing things and being yourself.

Amazing idea!

I would have loved for this to exist when I was younger and in a dangerous relationship. My cat and I lived in a tiny basement room Airbnb that was accessed from an alleyway next to the house, in a really unsafe part of my city at one point because no emergency housing could take me in with him, I didn't even have a car I could live in, and it would've broken my heart to give him up after everything I had already lost.

Listen to me, my queer younglings, I don’t usually write in gifsets because it is highly damaging to the aesthetic, but this is a very important PSA. This movie is the sadly ignored, unsung hero of all light lesbian romantic comedies, and if you have not watched it, you should do that right now, at this very moment.
