Hey, Jewish Pitt fic writers! Specifically all ye who’ve used the “Author is Jewish” + “Judaism”tags because it felt specifically pertinent to the content of the story you’ve written!

Some of us are, very informally, cobbling together a collection we’re goofily calling Kosher Pitt Fic.

We go into it in the FAQ & Rules, but it’s an “own voices” kinda deal for fic that centres on or explores Jewish identities and themes. It’s for fic you’ve written that you feel you wrote Jewishly.

It’s not about representation, per se. Mostly because we don’t think representation can only be accurate and authentic on the criteria of “own voices” alone. The world is full of thoughtful, talented writers whose work proves how conscientious their research is. This isn’t about “well-written Jewish character,” it’s casting the net wide to see what Jewish themes Jews are deliberately including and using The Pitt as a springboard to explore.

(And calling it a “collection” makes it sound way more serious than it is! fr we just hope you’ll share whatever cool stuff you’ve written.)

Without fail, every time a woman is talking about how she does not want to have children and never wants to be pregnant and how medical professionals, romantic interests and family members keep trying to bulldoze her decision and keep expecting her to change her mind because motherhood is something that is expected of all women and it is abhorrent to think a woman could not desire it, a random mother spawns in the comments to be like “Well, actually, you never know! I didn’t want children and then I got pregnant and I realized I love being a mama and I have five little babies now! Could happen to you! 🥰”

Sister, keep that to yourself or make your own goddamn post, you are ignoring that woman’s central concern and belittling her, you don’t even think you’re doing it. Formerly childfree women who ended up having children and loving it are like detransitioners in the sense that there is nothing inherently wrong with changing your mind about having children or realizing you were mistaken about your gender identity but immediately weaponizing your indecision to tell people that the barriers to healthcare and the violations of their bodily autonomy and the way society ignores that person’s wishes is actually okay because you were wrong. Some people do know themselves.

But also because when I was 11 i read a short story about a girl who went to a museum and stole a bandage flake off a mummy on display with the mentality of "im just one person one piece won't be missed" then at night she was visited by the mummy and it plucked a single hair from her head and then the next night a different mummy took another hair and she realized that there were only so many pieces to her before there would be nothing left and that story was forever wedged in my brain. 1) do this even if you're under 40. seriously. I definitely should have been doing something like this for years and I only turned 40 a month and a half ago

getting scambot messages from random accounts that clearly used to be normal active blogs is sad enough. you know that there used to be a real person on that blog until they were tricked into handing their password to the digital fae.

but it's an entirely new level of tragic when somebody you've actually spoken to gets turned into a bot account. it's like peeking at a zombie apocalypse through the window and realizing one of the shambling corpses was your friend.

and then the zombie catches sight of you, lurches up to your window, and shouts through the glass that they accidentally reported your account to tumblr and you'll be deactivated unless you click this link.

the message they tried to get me with is probably the same message that got them, so for anybody who hasn't already been warned about the signs of a zombie account:

if you get something like this ↑ they're gonna follow up by instructing you to contact tumblr support on discord and give you contact info; or they're gonna link a website that looks sort of like tumblr support and say you have to email them; or any variety of "you must now contact tumblr, here is how you contact tumblr."

whatever they send you, it Does Not lead to tumblr. it leads to the master zombie that bit them and inducted them into the ranks of the undead, and will bite you the second they have your email and password. i might be confusing zombies and vampires. anyway,

it's easier to fall for these messages because the blog doesn't LOOK like a bot blog, because it ISN'T a bot blog. it's a normal person's blog that got accessed by a bot, meaning the blog's content CLEARLY looks like a real active user when you click on it. and yes—it might even be a blog you already know. sometimes bots like this go down a blog's DMs or reblogs and message people they've previously interacted with.

Bit of a personal post from me, not at all normal and not something I like to be posting but I am in some trouble and need assistance.

I've been chronically ill since 2020 and sadly cannot work, my government wont help and refuse to give almost any assistance to me or my family. So unfortunately Ive got myself in some financial trouble and am struggling to pay some of my bills these past few months, and am sat here holding a County Court letter demanding I pay £600 to them with immediate effect. Everything is so expensive and rates for everything have gone through the roof as I am sure anyone reading this is also feeling. So that amount of money just isn’t something I can easily lay my hands on.

So I am dropping my paypal address here [email protected] with the hope that someone, anyone who has the means can help me and my family even just a bit so I don’t end up in jail. If you cant help please can you signal boost the post with the hope of it reaching more people?

It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! That’s a big deal! I’ve never thought about it before but now that I have, it’s ridiculous to me that that’s not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why don’t we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!
