Historically, in many places, the monarchy and institutions in power allowed a small group of elites an education while most of the population remained illiterate. That structure perpetuated the hierarchy because those at the bottom were clueless about their own situation and the world outside of their little cottage. Even if they were dissatisfied there was not much they could do to change that. The ruling class kept "peasants" uneducated because that protected their interest.
Modern literacy is what allowed for things like social mobility, activism, the strive for better policies, better quality of life, better future for all.
Workers can't fight for workers' right if workers don't know how to read and write
here's two articles about how JK Rowling just posted on X an upskirt photo of Freda Wallace, a transgender woman, after deadnaming her and misgendering her repeatedly online.
The wealthy author escalated a social media spat that resulted in posting a photo from a 2023 event at the Institute of Economic Affairs in
Rowling posted the picture taken from below because the trans woman, she said, was "refusing to debate me."
Thank you for posting without the fucking destiel meme
I miss when ads were a single click and then theyāre gone. Now every ad has a minimum of three phases where you watch a video, exit the still frame of fake gameplay, and then exit the app download. That doesnāt even touch on the ones that forcibly take you to another app after opening a tab in safari without you ever touching the screen.
I hate advertising. I hate that you canāt do anything without companies jumping down your throat with mostly bullshit ads. I hate that billboards exist. I hate that every company unanimously decided to make their ads longer and longer. I hate that ad blockers try to charge you money and there are in app purchases to remove ads. I hate that my attention has become commodified. I hate that thereās nothing I can do about it.
people with medical issues are not āputting a strain on the medical systemā. thatās what the medical system is for. yes this includes people with substance use related medical issues and other people considered āundeservingā of help

today's reason I fucking love the open source community: Ageless Linux, a brand new Debian-based operating system specifically designed to break the law by giving children access to computers that explicitly refuse to track their age.
reblog this post to help a child break the law
oh goddamn this whole page goes so hard actually, please go read it. what an impressive, visceral takedown of this dumb law
As of June 29, 2026 the law discussed here is a recently passed California state law (AB 1043) that requires age validation before using a computer connected to the internet. This is expected to happen at the operating system level, when you login to Windows, MacOS, Linux, etc.
Ageless Linux intends to force the issue before the California state supreme court, then ultimately (probably) the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS). It's a stupid, dangerous law, voted into place by legislators who either don't understand the core issue OR knowingly voted for it because they're assholes.
California is an influential state in the US. Many laws & regulations passed there eventually trickle out to most states. That's why it's worrisome to see this kind of thing rammed through, and why it's important to fight it.
Also, it doesn't matter if you use Linux or not. Or whether you live in California or not. Visit their site, read the text, learn what's going on with access to computing in this hellscape timeline.
We need to standardize clothing sizes. This is fucking stupid. Pass a federal law or something. Iām sick of this shit.
This has been my main argument against "AI" from the very beginning.
OpenAI scraped the entire web. All of which had been a labor of love from humans. Wikipedia is the backbone of a lot of LLMs, and that was volunteer human labor. They stole it and now they're selling it back to us.
And worse, they're trying to destroy the free sources that they stole from. It's destruction of human knowledge on an unprecedented scale. The burning of the library of Alexandria has nothing on this.

yeah u freaks up north look and sound exactly like this when u pretend that us southern queers are perfectly complicit in our own eradication - for the heinous crime of not living in a liberal population center.
I keep this image on hand for whenever I see similar sentiments.

job interviewer: (reading the room) would you be willing to destroy and betray yourself for a pizza party?
Okay disclaimers: I am not in the EU, or Europe in general. I'm American watching this from the sidelines because if the EU passes this im hoping game companies take the easy way out and make the lifetime-suppored versions avaliable all over the world.
That being said: we're not dead in the water. The commission (again per my understanding) was needed to create a whole new special law for SKG.
SKG was expecting this. We're the little guy and publishers have bribery money. The representatives that advocated for this to even get this far are by-in-large in support of SKG. So they'll probably use what powers those guys have outside of the commission - amending existing laws for example.
Here's a video I watched on it. Please by all means do your own research and if you're in the EU by all means bug your reps
why can rockstar games institutionalise you for life like nikita kruschev for being autistic
He didn't steal 10 million dollars. They made that number up as a loss, they never fucking had it. Rockstar has spent more than a billion fucking dollars on GTA VI and will likely make billions more when it gets released.
Uber is a fucking shell game of a company designed to leech investor capital and output bootleg cabs.
Nvidia posted a profit in 2023 of $4.37 billion. This is like someone stealing less than a penny from me.
And they lock this kid in a prison hospital for LIFE?
Capitalism is disgusting.
Nobody should buy GTA til they free Arion Kurtaj
What with GTA VI going up for pre-order i'd just like to remind everyone that rockstar conspired with the UK government to lock an 18-year-old away for life for hacking them.
How is your takeaway from this "oh no! They are banning asexuality!" They are banning being LGBTQIA+. They are just using a modern woke version of the acronym to define who they persecute. De facto they will only go after asexual people that go to pride parades or start advocacy groups or something. They're not gonna arrest you for not filling your sex quota lol
Iām going to respond to this with the assumption this was NOT!! originally posted with bad intent, but weāll see if I can keep up that line of thinking.
Firstly, the OP of the tweet just happened to cut off the name of the subreddit this was posted to. Turns out it was posted to r/Asexual. You know. The subreddit dedicated to talking about asexuality and related things. It makes sense that the original poster and a mod of that very subreddit would emphasize the inclusion of asexuality in Nigerās article 25.
Hereās a link to the actual Reddit post btw
Secondly, while all persecution of queer identities is evil and unjust, it is significant to point out asexuality being included. Most of the time laws donāt go into specifying more than gay or trans identities when it comes to trying to bar rights to individuals. This article has go so far to break down and specify the meaning of every single letter in LGBTQIA and call them all an āact against natureā to justify punishing anyone under the banner. It makes sense to, again, emphasize that asexuality was also included when this was posted in the r/Asexual subreddit.
And thirdly, and this is kinda the most important part imo, this means ANYONE CAN BE ACCUSED AND PERSECUTED UNDER THIS CHARTER. People in the subreddit and even the OP of the tweet are asking āhow can you even prove that?ā And thatās the thing. You canāt. So it makes it that much easier to just accuse someone of asexuality in order to force them into a heterosexual relationship or punish them.
Think about it. Whatās stopping a bitter ex or an abusive spouse from accusing their partner of ādenying sex due to their asexual tendenciesā in order to punish them? Maybe someone is career driven or just not interested in a relationship at the time. Whatās stopping a business rival, a jilted flirt, or an obsessed stalker from leaving an anonymous tip that the object of their ire is an asexual deviant? Absolutely nothing.
Taking this post and dismissing it as āno one cares you donāt want to fuckā is completely missing the point on why this is exceptionally dangerous. And acting like a mod of the r/Asexual subreddit is being silly for putting emphasis on the dangers to their community is rude at best.
The fact that everyone with a queer identity now can face prison time and ridiculous fines is terrifying and it breaks my heart to know more and more countries are baking these laws into their charters and constitutions. But we should be bringing these things into the light and condemning the people pushing for this kind of cruelty, not throwing stones at each other for pointing out a specific part of the article that affects us personally.
Uplift your fellow queers. Donāt do the CIAās job for them and try to tear our community apart with useless infighting.

What Is It Like To Age With Autism?
Fuck me, this is wild. The whole article is worth reading, but there's a one-two punch in the opening, that potentially 90% of adults with autism aren't diagnosed and 1% of autism research focuses on midlife and older age.
I know very well the running joke that children with autism evaporate when they hit 18 because so much autism research and media is focused on children. It just really hits home how we don't even goddamn look at adults with autism let alone speak with them or study their experiences.
I'm not even autistic but I have plenty of autistic friends and this makes me furious. What the actual fuck. I'm about to start the Evaporation Fund for Adult Autism Research.
My wife is a therapist, and a couple of years ago she went looking for resources to make her a better therapist for her many adult autistic clients and was (and still is) outraged that a) there was not much out there, and b) that she just might be one of the most knowledgeable therapists regarding adult autism just by virtue of interacting with a statistically higher percentage of people in our life that are autistic by virtue of being neurodivergent queer nerds ourselves.
The best source she has found for info about this was the AuSM conference she attended virtually last year. Itās a great conference run for and by autistic folk, but it should not be one of the only ways to get information about older autistic folk.
Itās a real problem that is starting to be rectified, but as with anything that is academic and research based it takes time for the resources to build up.
med people are so annoying "This family's 8 year old child who was about to go through a major surgery and kept crying that she was hungry so they pitied her and gave her food, she then had a heart attack in the surgery. They're so stupid š" girl they didn't know that could happen or why it happens. it takes so little time to explain to them that will happen instead of telling them "no food" with no explanation 10 times
"Before surgery, your bodyās reflexes that protect your airway are relaxed by anesthesia. If thereās food or liquid in your stomach, it will near certainly come back up and go into your lungs, which can cause choking, a severe lung / heart infection or even a heart attack. Thatās called aspiration, and it is life-threatening. It's hard, but it's only a single day to prevent near certain death. Not eating or drinking beforehand massively lowers the risk and helps prevent these life threatening situations under anesthesia." <- TIP: patients have brains which allows them to receive information just like you
I have four kids. Iāve had one or another of them need some kind of surgical procedure that requires anesthesia four or five times over the past 15 years.
This Tumblr post is the first time someone has explained to me *why* I couldnāt feed them before those instances.
Iām not stupid. I understood that just fine. Hell, my kids would have understood that just fine. But no one bothered to tell us.
i did know this before having kids (i have six). we have a kid that's needed multiple procedures requiring anesthesia. and every single time, i am asked multiple times if i'm sure he was not given any food or water after a certain point.
every single time i have had to say, "i understand that if he had food or water, he could aspirate it into his lungs under anesthesia. i am not lying to you." THEN someone would make a little note and i would stop being repeatedly asked.
not a single time was that risk explained to me. the only reason it came up was because i already knew. i still don't understand why it isn't standard pre-op counseling or pre-op check information, when me as a parent acknowledging the actual risk also put THE MEDICAL STAFF at ease because i conveyed that i had informed understanding as reason to not lie about giving my kid food.
"maybe some people will get nervous and refuse surgery" okay so they need more counseling about risks and anxiety, not less information in a way that actually does endanger their child or themselves!
