It's looking like I'm going to be staying late at the hospital today.

My scheduled surgery ran over thanks to some complications during the provider.

Thankfully, we managed to figure things out and the patient is currently in the recovery wing.

Because of all the delays during surgery, the rest of my schedule was pushed back, and I now find myself with a mountain of paperwork and other miscellaneous tasks ahead of me.

I wanted to take you out tonight to that new pâtisserie I heard about, but that will have to wait for another day.

Instead, I had this assortment of macarons delivered to make it up to you.

I mostly selected flavors I thought you'd enjoy, but I snuck a few that caught my eye in there as well.

Enjoy as much as you want, but don't eat to the point of making yourself sick.

Olruggio has been restless, as of late.

Everyone in the atelier has noticed the nervous, almost frantic, energy radiating off the perpetually tired inventor. They've also taken note of your… absence, shall we say. It's quite clear to both Qifrey and his young apprentices that Olruggio's uneasy state is entirely due to the difficult times you find yourself going through.

"How're ye feelin', love?"

It's been exactly five minutes since Olruggio last asked you this exact question. He's just worried, you know that, but his constant fretting and pestering has become less endearing and more annoying. You're not mad at Olruggio for being concerned over your well-being, far from it, but you'd be lying if you said it wasn't beginning to wear on your already frayed nerves.

"Like shit."

The response is partially mumbled thanks to half your face being pressed into the soft feather pillow beneath your head. For a brief moment, Olruggio looks past your tired, haggard state to see how lovely you are despite how terribly you feel. Then he looks closer, really looks, and his heart breaks a bit.

The dark circles beneath your eyes somehow seem to rival Olruggio's, which is a gargantuan feat in and of itself. Newly blossoming patches of acne have sprouted up across your face, standing out against your sickly, pallid complexion. Still, even like this — tired, bloated, breaking out, and in pain — Olruggio thinks you're an exquisite sight to behold.

"Yeah, I figured as much just lookin' at ye."

With that, you lift your head, turning to stare Olruggio down with a glare that could surely spell his demise if looks could kill. The poor witch clearly didn't comprehend how his previous statement came across, but all it took was that one look for him to realize how you interpreted his words. In result time, you can see the gears begin to turn in that brilliant, sleep-deprived mind of Olruggio's as he goes from dumbfounded to absolutely panicked.

"Are you saying I look like shit, Olly?"

You're merely pulling Olruggio's leg, pretending to be offended when you know full well he had no ill intent. It's, admittedly, rather amusing to watch him flounder about — so much so that you find yourself biting back a smile in an attempt to keep up your deadly glare. Thankfully, Olruggio is too busy trying to cover his ass to notice.

"N-no! 'C-course not! I'm just sayin' ye look like yer going through it right now, that's all!"

"Yeah? Well, you're looking pretty rough yourself, dear. There's no need to worry yourself sick over me, you know?"

There's a brief beat of silence followed by a deep, tired sigh from Olruggio. Unable to contain just how entertained you are with this whole situation, you find a laugh slipping past your lips to fill the quiet permeating the room. Surprised by your apparent change in mood, his head snaps up so quickly he finds himself grappling with whiplash from the sudden movement. Looking upon you with wide eyes and a slack jaw, Olruggio is graced with a sight he hasn't seen since your symptoms began a week ago.

There you are, bright and smiling. Admittedly, Olruggio has missed this — the sound of your laugh and the sight of your smile. In truth, seeing you like this lifts his spirits. For the first time all week, the dark cloud hanging over your lives has begun to dissipate, letting the first dappled rays of sunlight shine through.

Unfortunately, another storm rolls in and the sunlight is gone just as quickly as it appeared.

One moment, you're having a nice laugh and the next, you're wincing in pain and grabbing at your stomach. The house of cards all comes crashing down right before Olruggio's eyes, but he doesn't spare a moment to mourn its collapse. Instead, he launches into action.

"Oi, what's wrong?"

"Nothing, just some cramps."

"How bad?"

"On a scale of one to ten? Like, an eight. This little contraption of yours is working wonders, though. I can already feel the pain fading. What did you call it again? A snugstone, right?"

For the last week, poor Olruggio has been suffering alongside you — certainly not in the physical sense, but more so in the mental. Watching you wallow the day away in discomfort with no real way to put an end to your pain has left him feeling rather empty, useless even. He's a witch, he's supposed to be able to help, and for the first time throughout this whole ordeal, he actually feels like he's not entirely useless.

"A-aye. A snugstone, that's it."

A small, tight smile finds its way to Olruggio's quivering lips. For some odd reason, tears began to sting his eyes. Olruggio tries to blink them away, to tell himself that he's silly for getting all worked up over this, but that doesn't stop the tears one bit.

"Hey, what's wrong?"

"Nothin', nothin'."

"You expect me to believe you're crying over nothing? C'mon now, Olly. I may not be as smart as you, but I'm not so dense to believe that flimsy excuse."

Despite the tears, a chucked chuckle escapes Olruggio's lips. He can't help but laugh at how dramatic he's being. Perhaps all the stress and worrying over you has finally caught up with him, or maybe it's his lack of sleep and subpar diet finally leading him to snap. Whatever the case may be, Olruggio can only laugh at himself for getting so worked up.

"Sorry. I just— I'm glad I can be of help."

"You've done nothing but help me all week, sweetheart. I think you're due for a bit of rest yourself, don't you think?"

"There's no rest for the wicked, darlin'. I still have commissions I need to finis—"

"Olly. You've been working yourself to the bone and neglecting your needs to take care of me. You're of no use to anyone exhausted. Come rest, just for a little bit. Please?"

Olruggio blinks once, then twice, before a fond smile stretches across his tired features. He shakes his head, raising a callused hand to roughly tousle his already messy hair before rising to his feet with great effort. Olruggio's achy joints groan in protest — tired and sore from his many hours spent hunched over his workbench — proving your point that he too needs rest.

The mattress squeaks beneath Olruggio's weight as he settles into your shared bed beside you. For a brief moment, neither of you move. Olruggio stares at you, and you stare back, neither of you daring to utter a single word. Without thinking, you raise a hand to gently cup his cheek, letting your fingers graze his skin with a carefulness one would typically reserve for handling porcelain or glass. Olruggio feels every bit of tension leave his body beneath your touch, and for the first time in a long time, he's finally able to relax.

"Feeling better?"

"Aye, much better now, lovely."

With a lingering kiss pressed onto your forehead, Olruggio pulls you into his warm embrace. He dips his head to bury his face against the curve of your neck, inhaling your scent in with a deep breath that washes over him. He nuzzles closer, letting his beard tickle the delicate skin of your throat as he finds solace in your touch. It's here, with you in his arms, that Olruggio truly feels at peace, and he hopes with all his heart that you feel the same.

"Sleep well, Olly. I love you."

There's something wrong with Leona.

Not in the physical sense, of course, but in a way more… personal, so to speak. While Leona may be of a perfectly sound mind and body, the same can't exactly be said for his rather subtle shift in personality.

Like most things do, everything started off innocuous enough.

Leona's always liked to cuddle. It's something of a guilty habit of his, one you've indulged in without complaint since you first became his boyfriend. Usually, the lion would only pull you close and when he wanted to go to sleep, but now you find yourself trapped in his embrace pretty much every hour of every day. You'll never complain about receiving a little bit of love and attention from Leona, but it became a bit much when he started timing how long it took you to use the bathroom.

"Three minutes."

"Huh?"

"It took you three minutes to go piss. You left me alone for three whole minutes, one hundred eighty seconds, herbivore."

"Uh, my bad?"

"Yeah, you're bad. Do better next time. Now, c'mere so I can start makin' up for those three minutes without you."

One would think Leona would at least be gracious enough to let you keep yourself entertained while he uses you as his own personal pillow, but that's, unfortunately, not the case. It's already hard enough to find a comfortable position to read a book or doomscroll on your phone with your heavy ass boyfriend laying his full weight on top of you, but doing so is even harder thanks to the fact that he seems to only want your attention on him and him alone. Literally, every time you look to turn your attention anywhere else but Leona, he pops up right in your way to block your view of whatever dares to steal your focus away from him.

"Can you move your head?"

"No."

"No?"

"You heard me, smartass. The answer is no. You're always on that damn phone anyway, so how about you put it down and give your attention to something that actually matters."

"If you want attention you can just ask, Leona."

"Quiet."

"Damn, alright. I guess I'll just… stare at the wall until I pass out from boredom."

Thankfully, you were finally able to reach for your phone or one of the heavy tomes on Leona's bedside table when he finally fell asleep and was no longer conscious enough to nag you about paying attention to anything other than him. Despite your initial annoyance with your boyfriend and his antics, this newfound clinginess of his is, admittedly, quite nice. Sure, being confined to his bed and scolded for taking 'too long' in the bathroom or spending too much time on your phone — not to mention his grumbling everything you stopped running your fingers through his hair — but you get to see him all soft and kind and lovey-dovey, so it's all worth it.

The little buggers are just as eager for your love and attention, which may or may not lead to Mista arguing with them for 'taking' you away from him. When he's not beefing with his stand, you'll find him trying to fuse his body into yours. If Mista could, he'd live inside your chest — right next to your heart where it's nice and warm and safe. He loves going shopping with you because he means he gets to watch you try on clothes and carry all your bags for you like a good boyfriend — plus, if you stop by a mall, that means he can get one of those soft pretzels with cheese he loves so much! No matter how much you spend, Mista isn't one to say no to you, so use that to your advantage and make his pockets hurt! I think he has a bit of anxiety surrounding money considering how abruptly he was cut off from his family's wealth, so he makes a point to save and budget to an almost obsessive degree. That being said, he's not so penny-pinching that he won't buy you gifts — he actually quite enjoyed taking the time to pick something out for you — but they won't be all that common an occurrence. (He still allows himself some wiggle room for a spontaneous gift, which is even rarer lol).

‧₊˚ ┊ Fugo does, however, frequently give you flowers. It's a classic romantic gesture that isn't as detrimental to his wallet as a new pair of shoes or Cartier bracelet. Being the huge nerd he is, Fugo goes out of his way to pick out the flowers himself to convey some sort of message though the language of flowers! If you ever clock his tea, he'll deny it up and down, but that won't stop him from continuing to craft these bouquets himself. More expensive gifts like jewelry and the like are only really bought on special occasions like anniversaries or holidays. Fugo is a bit of a perfectionist, so he'll painstakingly spend literal months searching for the perfect gift for you! (As you can see, I'm also on my loverboy Fugo agenda lol).

Like, at least every other day, he's dropping like, a hundred dollars on snacks! Qifrey's soft pleading pierces through the barrier of your cozy blanket cocoon. He's been trying to coax you into emerging or at least talking to him for the last five minutes to no avail. Qifrey has navigated many tricky situations in his life, from unruly apprentices, to attacks from the Brimhats, but this — somehow — takes the cake.

After a beat of silence, a defeated sigh — muffled thanks to the blanket over your head — finds your ears. Qifrey knew something was wrong when you didn't join him, Olruggio, and the girls for breakfast. You seemed rather… sluggish when you woke up, but it's unlike you to burrow into bed and refuse to leave its comfort when you know that day's responsibilities await you.

That's when it clicks for Qifrey.

You listen to him walk away from where he was crouched at your bedside, silently hoping that he'll finally leave you be and just let you wallow in peace. Unfortunately, Qifrey is a very stubborn man. The soft, distant sound of paper being flipped though can be heard as your beloved goes about doing whatever it is he's doing. With a soft hum, Qifrey finds what he's looking for marked in bright red ink on the calendar.

Ah, so it's about that time, is it?

"I see what the problem is now, dearest. You should have told me you weren't feeling well before your period."

Qifrey's suspicions are confirmed when an exasperated groan bellows from within the confines of your blanket prison. Slowly, and almost shamefully, you pop your head out, shooting your beloved witch a petulant glare that he can't bring himself to take seriously thanks to your bedhead sticking up every which way. Even when you're cross with Qifrey, he thinks you utterly breathtaking.

"What am I going to do with you, hmm?"

"Let me rot in bed all day, perhaps?"

"Hmm, no, I don't think so. How about we start with getting something to eat?"

Qifrey's gone before you have the chance to argue, and in the blink of an eye he's back at your side with a carefully selected spread from this morning's breakfast. He takes it upon himself to feed you, happily smiling to himself as he raises a spoonful of porridge to your lips. You glance at the spoon, then back at Qifrey with an unamused brow raised.

"You do know I can feed myself, yes?"

"Of course, dear. I merely wish to dote on you while you're not feeling well. You'll allow me that simple pleasure, will you not?"

The soft huff that passes your lips signals to Qifrey the end of your attempts at pushing him away. Without a fuss, you let him feed you. While the food itself is delicious as always, you can't help but grow a tad annoyed by your beloved’s rather… intense staring. Usually, it wouldn't bother you too much, but your mood is all kinds of thrown off thanks to your impending period, making the smallest of things something you're ready to have a meltdown over.

"Will you look away or something? I'm not going to disappear if you take your eye off me, Qifrey."

"My apologies, love. I had no intention of staring, but I couldn't help but notice how your cheeks become so soft and squishy like Puff-Puff's when you chew. They're just so cute and pinchabale, I couldn't help but be entranced by them."

Yet again, Qifrey's endless adoration makes it impossible for you to be truly annoyed with him. He watches as you quite literally melt at his words, losing any sense of defiance you had a mere moment ago. A smug, satisfied smile makes its way to Qifrey's lips, but he manages to bite it back well enough for you not to notice.

"Now that you're nice and fed, how about you tell me how you’re feeling, hm?"

"Tired and sore."

"Is that so? Well, that's no good, is it? Lucky for you, I have just the thing to sooth what ails you!"

With a cheery pep in his step, you resentfully watch Qifrey flit about to rifle through his desk for who knows what. It must be so nice to be unburdened by the dreaded monthly cycle and cursed week of blood, lucky bastard. For a split, second you're yet again cross with Qifrey for no fault of his own.

Just as quickly, you find yourself melting yet again as he comes scurrying back with a sparkle in his eyes and smile on his lips. Qifrey crouches down next to the bed, practically beaming his he presents you with a… stone? He looks up at you like a puppy presenting its owner with a stick it found — expectant and awaiting copious amounts of love and praise. Although confused, you can't even begin to be irritated by him when he looks at you like that.

"It's a rock."

"No, darling. It's a snugstone! It's Olly's latest invention!"

"And how exactly is this 'snugstone' supposed to help my pain?"

Instead of just explaining how the magical contraption works, Qifrey simply opts to show you instead. With gentle hands, he places the snugstone overtop your sleep shirt, right against your bloated stomach. You don't know what to expect, and for a moment, you think this is just some kind of elaborate prank. That's when a soothing warmth overtakes you.

"Oh."

"Oh, indeed, my love! Quite an impressive rock, don't you think?"

"It's certainly something, alright. Give my regards to Olruggio for this wonderful contraption of his."

"Of course, sweetheart. I'll make sure he knows how much his hard work is appreciated. Now, I believe it's time you got some rest."

Qifrey smooths a gentle hand over your head as a comfortable bliss washes over your weary self. For all the bite you had earlier, it's funny how easily you lean into his touch now that you've been fed and tended too. It would be all too easy for Qifrey to tease you for how quickly you switched up on him, but he knows better than to draw your ire when you're in such a state.

"I'll be downstairs with the girls for today's lesson, so you need only shout if you need me, alright?"

Qifrey isn't entirely sure that you comprehend his words, but the tired nod you give in response is enough to tell him that he was able to reach you though the impending haze of sleep enveloping you. He huffs softly, giving your cheek a gentle squeeze between his thumb and pointer finger before leaning in to press a delicate kiss against your forehead. With that, Qifrey pulls away, finding you already lost to the land of dreams.

‧₊˚ ┊ Cater is a Hall of Fame yapper. There's a 99.9% chance that once you get him started on a topic of conversation that interests him, that he'll talk and talk and talk until his voice grows hoarse and his throat sore. It could be said that Cater loves the sound of his own voice, and while that might be at least partially true, he does find comfort in the quiet moments as well.

‧₊˚ ┊ Cater is happy to be the vocal cords, so to speak, in your relationship. He very fluently speaks your silent nods and gestures, so don't worry about him misunderstanding you! Additionally, Cater is happy to act as your translator during your non-verbal moments. He won't ever force you to speak and will make sure no one else tries to get you to either. (Don't let Cater's bubbly facade fool you — he can get kinda… intense when it comes to dealing with anyone bothering you. It's kinda like seeing a flip switch. Rook Hunt

The first years are collectively at their wits end.

They've lost track of how long Sebek's been dancing around his feelings for you. It's honestly become downright painful for them to watch the poor fae try and fail time and time again to get you to understand the depth of his affections for you. It seems like he's tried everything at this point, yet his kind gestures and outright declaring his adoration for you have continually gone right over your head.

Your obviousness is the main problem here. Somehow, you don't seem to notice how utterly whipped Sebek is for you. How you can think he's just being friendly when he clearly favors you to just about every other soul that crosses his path — minus Lilia and his glorious liege Malleus, of course — is beyond them. It's quite obvious to everyone that watches Sebek interact with you that he has a massive raging crush on you. Well, it's obvious to everyone except for you.

Thankfully, that's about to change.

Unable to suffer yet another one of Sebek's failed attempts at wooing you, the first years decide to take it upon themselves and set the two of you up once and for all. The plan was actually suggested by Ace, who isn't exactly known for coming up with many bright ideas. The others very quickly agreed, since they were also beyond sick and tired of having to awkwardly watch Sebek try to flirt with you.

And so, the plan was put into motion!

Ortho, using his vast database of knowledge, concocted the perfect romantic date for the two of you — a romantic dinner for two! Of course, I dinner needs food, so Ace and Deuce begged the best cook they know — that being Trey — to help them out. The Vice Housewarden agreed after some convincing and the promise of a favor from each of his juniors, which left only the venue and decorations to be settled.

Vil was gracious enough to let the group use one of Pomefiore's spare ballrooms to host your date after Epel explained their plans for you and Sebek. While he's usually a bit reluctant to let a gaggle of rowdy first years run around his dorm unsupervised, he supposed he did owe you for all your help with the overblots and whatnot, so he simply obligated to settle that debt. Thankfully, Vil has Rook to keep an eye out and make sure none of the dorm's expensive vases get broken in the process.

Once the location was established, Jack got to work rearranging furniture and putting up decoration according to the plans Ortho came up with. The others chipped in too, of course, but the heavy lifting was left to Jack. Finally, after all the blood, sweat and tears — well, mostly sweat, but a little bit of blood and tears after Ace hurt his foot trying to move a table with Deuce — the set-up was finally done.

All that's left was to get you and Sebek together to enjoy the fruits of all their arduous labor.

Surprisingly, it was rather easy to get you both to agree to come to Pomefiore under the guise of a group study session. Grim, however, almost ended up talking you out of it, since the last thing he wanted to do was study, but all it took was some mild convincing and the promise of canned tuna to get him to change his tune. Thankfully, you didn't think his eagerness strange, which was quite the relief to the others.

Neither you nor Sebek had any idea what was in store when you set out to Pomefiore on that fateful day. To keep up the ruse of the aforementioned study session cover, the whole group of first years were waiting for you in the form lounge upon arrival. There was an undercurrent of tension in the room amongst them, but they were at least able to pretend not to be scheming.

The plan to get you two alone was simple. They'd moved most of the extra seating out of the lounge, so you and Sebek had no other choice but to venture off to grab yourselves a chair. Epel would point you in the direction of the ballroom they set up in advance. He'd quietly follow the two of you, and once you were behind closed doors, he'd spring into action and lock you both in! As convoluted as the whole thing sounds, it managed to work out quite well.So, now you find yourself trapped in the very nicely decorated room with Sebek while the others taunt him from the other side of the doors. Something about finally making a move, whatever that means. While Sebek rages and contemplates breaking down the door to strangle the other first years — minus Ortho, who he refuses to believe was lead astray by their wicked friends — you take it upon yourself to inspect the dinner for two set up in the middle of the room.

Two delicious looking plates of food and accompanying desserts were spread out on the table, with a bouquet of bright red roses — likely fresh from Heartslabyul's gardens — acting as the centerpiece. It's a lovely display that only heightened the surrounding atmosphere. The lights are down low, letting the fairy lights strung up across the ceiling cast a soft warm light on the scene below. Somewhere, a quiet music plays a gentle tune that you can just make out over the sounds of Sebek's arguing.

"Just leave them be, Sebek. They locked us in here for a reason. The sooner we give them what they want, the sooner they'll let us go." Oh, Sebek knows very well what they want, but he's not quite sure if he's ready to take that step just yet. Sure, he's been trying to court you for a long while now, but confessing his feelings is an entirely different beast.

"F-fine. You're right, as always, prefect. Tell me, what mischief has those louts gotten up to this time?"

"A meal by the looks of it. I guess they want us to eat more. It's a bit dramatic going to these lengths, but it's actually kinda sweet if you think about it." Of course, it goes right over your head that this is supposed to be a romantic endeavor. To Sebek, though, the intention couldn't be any clearer.

Without much fanfare, you sit and eat in silence. Sebek can hardly stand to take more than a few bites thanks to his nerves and instead finds himself mulling over every possible way he can get out of his with his pride and dignity intact.

"Are you alright? You look like you're about to throw up over there?"

"I am perfectly well, perfect. I just have quite a bit on my mind."

"Care to share? I'm always here to listen."

There's a beat of silence followed by a long heavy sigh from Sebek. He knows what he must do, and although he doesn't appreciate being forced into this situation, he will take the opportunity and make the best out of it.

"I have meant to tell you this for some time, prefect. It was my intention to do so on my own terms, but my hand has been forced. So, I shall come out and say it: I am quite taken with you and would like to pursue a romance with you should it please you." And just like that, Sebek's heart is laid bare for you to do with it as you please. It feels like a relief that he's finally spoken the words aloud, but he'd be lying if he said he didn't fear what your response might be.

"Oh… I had no idea you felt that way about me."

"I see. Perhaps I was not as obvious about my feelings as I would have liked. Please forgive me for that."

"There's nothing to forgive, Sebek. Thank you for telling me. I guess I was a bit too thick-headed to notice, so let's call it even."

"I would not let you take even part of the blame for this mishap, but if you insist, then I shall allow it."

"So, I guess this was the guys' plan all along? Lock us in here and get one of us to confess? Heh, I gotta give it to them, they really know how to come together when they put their minds to it."

"Yes, I suppose I shall have to thank them for orchestrating all this, even if things don't turn out the way they'd hoped."

"It would have been a shame if all their hard work went to waste, don't you think? Well, I think they'll be quite happy to know that I return your feelings, Sebek."

"Y-you do?"

"Of course! Come on, let's go tell them now, I wanna rub it in their faces!"

Upon your emergence from the ballroom, the group of first years erupts into a chorus of cheers.
