"Won't you come out from underneath those blankets and tell me what's wrong, darling?"

Qifrey's soft pleading pierces through the barrier of your cozy blanket cocoon. He's been trying to coax you into emerging or at least talking to him for the last five minutes to no avail. Qifrey has navigated many tricky situations in his life, from unruly apprentices, to attacks from the Brimhats, but this — somehow — takes the cake.

After a beat of silence, a defeated sigh — muffled thanks to the blanket over your head — finds your ears. Qifrey knew something was wrong when you didn't join him, Olruggio, and the girls for breakfast. You seemed rather… sluggish when you woke up, but it's unlike you to burrow into bed and refuse to leave its comfort when you know that day's responsibilities await you.

That's when it clicks for Qifrey.

You listen to him walk away from where he was crouched at your bedside, silently hoping that he'll finally leave you be and just let you wallow in peace. Unfortunately, Qifrey is a very stubborn man. The soft, distant sound of paper being flipped though can be heard as your beloved goes about doing whatever it is he's doing. With a soft hum, Qifrey finds what he's looking for marked in bright red ink on the calendar.

Ah, so it's about that time, is it?

"I see what the problem is now, dearest. You should have told me you weren't feeling well before your period."

Qifrey's suspicions are confirmed when an exasperated groan bellows from within the confines of your blanket prison. Slowly, and almost shamefully, you pop your head out, shooting your beloved witch a petulant glare that he can't bring himself to take seriously thanks to your bedhead sticking up every which way. Even when you're cross with Qifrey, he thinks you utterly breathtaking.

"What am I going to do with you, hmm?"

"Let me rot in bed all day, perhaps?"

"Hmm, no, I don't think so. How about we start with getting something to eat?"

Qifrey's gone before you have the chance to argue, and in the blink of an eye he's back at your side with a carefully selected spread from this morning's breakfast. He takes it upon himself to feed you, happily smiling to himself as he raises a spoonful of porridge to your lips. You glance at the spoon, then back at Qifrey with an unamused brow raised.

"You do know I can feed myself, yes?"

"Of course, dear. I merely wish to dote on you while you're not feeling well. You'll allow me that simple pleasure, will you not?"

The soft huff that passes your lips signals to Qifrey the end of your attempts at pushing him away. Without a fuss, you let him feed you. While the food itself is delicious as always, you can't help but grow a tad annoyed by your beloved’s rather… intense staring. Usually, it wouldn't bother you too much, but your mood is all kinds of thrown off thanks to your impending period, making the smallest of things something you're ready to have a meltdown over.

"Will you look away or something? I'm not going to disappear if you take your eye off me, Qifrey."

"My apologies, love. I had no intention of staring, but I couldn't help but notice how your cheeks become so soft and squishy like Puff-Puff's when you chew. They're just so cute and pinchabale, I couldn't help but be entranced by them."

Yet again, Qifrey's endless adoration makes it impossible for you to be truly annoyed with him. He watches as you quite literally melt at his words, losing any sense of defiance you had a mere moment ago. A smug, satisfied smile makes its way to Qifrey's lips, but he manages to bite it back well enough for you not to notice.

"Now that you're nice and fed, how about you tell me how you’re feeling, hm?"

"Tired and sore."

"Is that so? Well, that's no good, is it? Lucky for you, I have just the thing to sooth what ails you!"

With a cheery pep in his step, you resentfully watch Qifrey flit about to rifle through his desk for who knows what. It must be so nice to be unburdened by the dreaded monthly cycle and cursed week of blood, lucky bastard. For a split, second you're yet again cross with Qifrey for no fault of his own.

Just as quickly, you find yourself melting yet again as he comes scurrying back with a sparkle in his eyes and smile on his lips. Qifrey crouches down next to the bed, practically beaming his he presents you with a… stone? He looks up at you like a puppy presenting its owner with a stick it found — expectant and awaiting copious amounts of love and praise. Although confused, you can't even begin to be irritated by him when he looks at you like that.

"It's a rock."

"No, darling. It's a snugstone! It's Olly's latest invention!"

"And how exactly is this 'snugstone' supposed to help my pain?"

Instead of just explaining how the magical contraption works, Qifrey simply opts to show you instead. With gentle hands, he places the snugstone overtop your sleep shirt, right against your bloated stomach. You don't know what to expect, and for a moment, you think this is just some kind of elaborate prank. That's when a soothing warmth overtakes you.

"Oh."

"Oh, indeed, my love! Quite an impressive rock, don't you think?"

"It's certainly something, alright. Give my regards to Olruggio for this wonderful contraption of his."

"Of course, sweetheart. I'll make sure he knows how much his hard work is appreciated. Now, I believe it's time you got some rest."

Qifrey smooths a gentle hand over your head as a comfortable bliss washes over your weary self. For all the bite you had earlier, it's funny how easily you lean into his touch now that you've been fed and tended too. It would be all too easy for Qifrey to tease you for how quickly you switched up on him, but he knows better than to draw your ire when you're in such a state.

"I'll be downstairs with the girls for today's lesson, so you need only shout if you need me, alright?"

Qifrey isn't entirely sure that you comprehend his words, but the tired nod you give in response is enough to tell him that he was able to reach you though the impending haze of sleep enveloping you. He huffs softly, giving your cheek a gentle squeeze between his thumb and pointer finger before leaning in to press a delicate kiss against your forehead. With that, Qifrey pulls away, finding you already lost to the land of dreams.

‧₊˚ ┊ Cater is a Hall of Fame yapper. There's a 99.9% chance that once you get him started on a topic of conversation that interests him, that he'll talk and talk and talk until his voice grows hoarse and his throat sore. It could be said that Cater loves the sound of his own voice, and while that might be at least partially true, he does find comfort in the quiet moments as well.

‧₊˚ ┊ Cater is happy to be the vocal cords, so to speak, in your relationship. He very fluently speaks your silent nods and gestures, so don't worry about him misunderstanding you! Additionally, Cater is happy to act as your translator during your non-verbal moments. He won't ever force you to speak and will make sure no one else tries to get you to either. (Don't let Cater's bubbly facade fool you — he can get kinda… intense when it comes to dealing with anyone bothering you. It's kinda like seeing a flip switch. One moment he's smiling and the next he's glaring down some rando who asked why you can't speak for yourself. Oh, if looks could kill, Cater would be behind bars lol.)

It's in these moments that he finds solace in the silence, letting it surround him like a blanket while he doomscrolls his stress away. When Cater finds himself unwilling to speak, he'll use your language of nods and gestures to communicate with you. With the roles reversed, he considers himself lucky that he's found someone who not only speaks, but truly understands that same language. (Cater is very grateful that you're there for him during these moments and will tell you as much once he regains his will to speak.)

He doesn't mind, of course. In fact, it's something that Trey takes some pride in. There's a level of trust that comes with acting as someone else's voice, and it means a lot to him that you would trust him enough to speak on your behalf. (Trey just genuinely likes being able to support you in any way. He'd go to the ends of the earth if you asked it of him, so this is pretty much nothing lol.)

Once silence strikes, he does what he can to accommodate your unwillingness to speak. Your gestures, nods, and pointing are by no means foreign to him, which allows him to easily communicate with you even if you don't employ your words. With a kind and gentle heart, Trey happily allows you to use his voice when yours fails you, and if anyone has a problem with that, then they can take it up with him. (He'll never resort to any sort of violence or intimidation — that's just but his style — but will instead try to diffuse any tension with his typical grounded and calm approach. That being said, if someone makes a snide comment or comes at you wrong for being non-verbal, you'll see a side of Trey that greatly contradicts his usually considerate and loving nature.)

Rook Hunt

The first years are collectively at their wits end.

They've lost track of how long Sebek's been dancing around his feelings for you. It's honestly become downright painful for them to watch the poor fae try and fail time and time again to get you to understand the depth of his affections for you. It seems like he's tried everything at this point, yet his kind gestures and outright declaring his adoration for you have continually gone right over your head.

Your obviousness is the main problem here. Somehow, you don't seem to notice how utterly whipped Sebek is for you. How you can think he's just being friendly when he clearly favors you to just about every other soul that crosses his path — minus Lilia and his glorious liege Malleus, of course — is beyond them. It's quite obvious to everyone that watches Sebek interact with you that he has a massive raging crush on you. Well, it's obvious to everyone except for you.

Thankfully, that's about to change.

Unable to suffer yet another one of Sebek's failed attempts at wooing you, the first years decide to take it upon themselves and set the two of you up once and for all. The plan was actually suggested by Ace, who isn't exactly known for coming up with many bright ideas. The others very quickly agreed, since they were also beyond sick and tired of having to awkwardly watch Sebek try to flirt with you.

And so, the plan was put into motion!

Ortho, using his vast database of knowledge, concocted the perfect romantic date for the two of you — a romantic dinner for two! Of course, I dinner needs food, so Ace and Deuce begged the best cook they know — that being Trey — to help them out. The Vice Housewarden agreed after some convincing and the promise of a favor from each of his juniors, which left only the venue and decorations to be settled.

Vil was gracious enough to let the group use one of Pomefiore's spare ballrooms to host your date after Epel explained their plans for you and Sebek. While he's usually a bit reluctant to let a gaggle of rowdy first years run around his dorm unsupervised, he supposed he did owe you for all your help with the overblots and whatnot, so he simply obligated to settle that debt. Thankfully, Vil has Rook to keep an eye out and make sure none of the dorm's expensive vases get broken in the process.

Once the location was established, Jack got to work rearranging furniture and putting up decoration according to the plans Ortho came up with. The others chipped in too, of course, but the heavy lifting was left to Jack. Finally, after all the blood, sweat and tears — well, mostly sweat, but a little bit of blood and tears after Ace hurt his foot trying to move a table with Deuce — the set-up was finally done.

All that's left was to get you and Sebek together to enjoy the fruits of all their arduous labor.

Surprisingly, it was rather easy to get you both to agree to come to Pomefiore under the guise of a group study session. Grim, however, almost ended up talking you out of it, since the last thing he wanted to do was study, but all it took was some mild convincing and the promise of canned tuna to get him to change his tune. Thankfully, you didn't think his eagerness strange, which was quite the relief to the others.

Neither you nor Sebek had any idea what was in store when you set out to Pomefiore on that fateful day. To keep up the ruse of the aforementioned study session cover, the whole group of first years were waiting for you in the form lounge upon arrival. There was an undercurrent of tension in the room amongst them, but they were at least able to pretend not to be scheming.

The plan to get you two alone was simple. They'd moved most of the extra seating out of the lounge, so you and Sebek had no other choice but to venture off to grab yourselves a chair. Epel would point you in the direction of the ballroom they set up in advance. He'd quietly follow the two of you, and once you were behind closed doors, he'd spring into action and lock you both in! As convoluted as the whole thing sounds, it managed to work out quite well.So, now you find yourself trapped in the very nicely decorated room with Sebek while the others taunt him from the other side of the doors. Something about finally making a move, whatever that means. While Sebek rages and contemplates breaking down the door to strangle the other first years — minus Ortho, who he refuses to believe was lead astray by their wicked friends — you take it upon yourself to inspect the dinner for two set up in the middle of the room.

Two delicious looking plates of food and accompanying desserts were spread out on the table, with a bouquet of bright red roses — likely fresh from Heartslabyul's gardens — acting as the centerpiece. It's a lovely display that only heightened the surrounding atmosphere. The lights are down low, letting the fairy lights strung up across the ceiling cast a soft warm light on the scene below. Somewhere, a quiet music plays a gentle tune that you can just make out over the sounds of Sebek's arguing.

"Just leave them be, Sebek. They locked us in here for a reason. The sooner we give them what they want, the sooner they'll let us go." Oh, Sebek knows very well what they want, but he's not quite sure if he's ready to take that step just yet. Sure, he's been trying to court you for a long while now, but confessing his feelings is an entirely different beast.

"F-fine. You're right, as always, prefect. Tell me, what mischief has those louts gotten up to this time?"

"A meal by the looks of it. I guess they want us to eat more. It's a bit dramatic going to these lengths, but it's actually kinda sweet if you think about it." Of course, it goes right over your head that this is supposed to be a romantic endeavor. To Sebek, though, the intention couldn't be any clearer.

Without much fanfare, you sit and eat in silence. Sebek can hardly stand to take more than a few bites thanks to his nerves and instead finds himself mulling over every possible way he can get out of his with his pride and dignity intact.

"Are you alright? You look like you're about to throw up over there?"

"I am perfectly well, perfect. I just have quite a bit on my mind."

"Care to share? I'm always here to listen."

There's a beat of silence followed by a long heavy sigh from Sebek. He knows what he must do, and although he doesn't appreciate being forced into this situation, he will take the opportunity and make the best out of it.

"I have meant to tell you this for some time, prefect. It was my intention to do so on my own terms, but my hand has been forced. So, I shall come out and say it: I am quite taken with you and would like to pursue a romance with you should it please you." And just like that, Sebek's heart is laid bare for you to do with it as you please. It feels like a relief that he's finally spoken the words aloud, but he'd be lying if he said he didn't fear what your response might be.

"Oh… I had no idea you felt that way about me."

"I see. Perhaps I was not as obvious about my feelings as I would have liked. Please forgive me for that."

"There's nothing to forgive, Sebek. Thank you for telling me. I guess I was a bit too thick-headed to notice, so let's call it even."

"I would not let you take even part of the blame for this mishap, but if you insist, then I shall allow it."

"So, I guess this was the guys' plan all along? Lock us in here and get one of us to confess? Heh, I gotta give it to them, they really know how to come together when they put their minds to it."

"Yes, I suppose I shall have to thank them for orchestrating all this, even if things don't turn out the way they'd hoped."

"It would have been a shame if all their hard work went to waste, don't you think? Well, I think they'll be quite happy to know that I return your feelings, Sebek."

"Y-you do?"

"Of course! Come on, let's go tell them now, I wanna rub it in their faces!"

Upon your emergence from the ballroom, the group of first years erupts into a chorus of cheers. They high-five, hug, and congratulate each other like they'd just won the World Cup when all they did was successfully set their friend up with their crush. Sebek is, of course, still peeved that they had the gall to pull such a stunt, but he'll let them celebrate for now.

Xavier would much rather spend the day at home with you, napping and playing video games with you. He's a homebody for sure, but he will happily go out and do whatever makes you happy. While you're more bubbly, Xavier is more the calm, cool and collected type. He certainly can get animated at times, but that's mostly in therms of his facial expressions — specifically his eyes. Xavier is much more of a listener than a yapper, so he'll glad listen to you run your mouth. When I say listen, I mean it. Xavier quite enjoys physical affection, mostly in the way of cuddling during a nap. He is, however, happy to let you squeeze him and bite him as you please. Me might fix you the occasional nip here and there, but otherwise he's not much of a biter himself. Xavier will absolutely squeeze you tho. He's got an iron-clad grip that makes it rather difficult for you to get out of his loving embrace. Xavier is an avid reader himself, so he loves doing buddy reads with you! He isn't really one for murder mysteries, but he'll read them for you. Sci-fi and space themed novels are, of course, his preferred genre, but he's willing to try out just about anything if you recommend it. Like you, Xavier is a huge cat person. He'd be a great cat parent, but be warned: if you choose to stops a cat with him, he will fight the little feline for your attention and affection no matter how cute and fluffy it is. Being a trained hunter means that Xavier's reflexes are second to none. For you, that mean you'll never have to worry about bugs bothering you. You won't even notice any bugs because he'll have them removed from your presence before you even notice them. Xavier is very patient and understanding when it comes to your anger issues. He doesn't get very angry himself, so he's able to handle your heightened emotions in a calm and relaxed manner. Your laziness doesn't bother Xavier whatsoever. On the bright side, Xavier very keen on taking care of you and will pamper you like a princess if you let him.

Silver handles your anger with grace. He doesn't ever hold your emotions against you and only ever tries to calmly defuse the situation as best he can. ‧₊˚ ┊ There has to be a rule that forbids hiding beneath the Queen of Hearts' cape! Well, at least that's what Riddle immediately thought the first time you took it upon yourself to hide beneath it. His first instinct was to scold you for acting so childish, but then he remembered that you literally are a child, and quickly bit his tongue. So, Riddle, albeit reluctantly, let you hide underneath his cape. (Of course, he'd huff and grumble and complain, but he never once told you no. To be honest, he just can't bring himself to deny you, so use that power wisely lol!)

‧₊˚ ┊ Your fascination with Riddle's cape is beyond him, so be honest. I mean, he does enjoy how regal and commanding it makes him look, but he can't fathom why you're so obsessed with hiding beneath it. Similarly, the ADeuce duo — well, mainly Ace — doesn't understand why you like hiding in their Housewarden's shadow, but Riddle is very quick to slap a collar on either of them of the tease you too much for his liking. (Cater and Trey jokingly call him a protective older bother, which almost gets them both collared by a very flustered Riddle.)

‧₊˚ ┊ With time, Riddle grows rather fond of your antics and almost brings to expect you to worm your way beneath his cape whenever he dons his dorm uniform. He is, of course, too proud to admit how much he enjoys your antics, and will deny it up and down if you or anyone else tries to call him out! Riddle was certainly a reluctant big brother, but he's settled into the role and takes his duty very seriously! (He didn't have an older sibling to protect him when he was young, so he's gonna make up for the past by being there for you!)

‧₊˚ ┊ In the beginning, Azul was rather annoyed by how you clung to him like a sucker fish, but with time, he began to find it somewhat endearing. He's, of course, too proud to admit that he finds your antics quite sweet, but it's very easy for everyone to tell how fond he is of you. (Jade and Floyd, obviously, poke fun at the poor octopus, but you're spared from their teasing since you're just a little shrimpy.)

‧₊˚ ┊ You're almost always welcome beneath the cover of the coat Azul wears over his shoulders, just not when he's doing business. On one occasion, you nearly gave one of his clients a heart attack after you popped out from the dark recesses of his coat. After that, he very politely asked that you refrain from hiding there while he's trying to make a deal. (Thankfully, he didn't lose that client you scared half to death, but even if he had, he couldn't be too mad at you.)

‧₊˚ ┊ Although you're not technically a member of the Octavinelle dorm, Azul takes it upon himself to have a matching oversized coat made for you. Of course, it could never compare to the billowing glory of Azul's, but at least you can hide beneath it whenever you're not able to be within reach of his coat. (Azul thinks you look like quite the professional little thing in your coat and, admittedly, feels something akin to pride whenever he sees you wearing it. He's a proud big bro lol.)

‧₊˚ ┊ Oh, Malleus is so utterly delighted that you have taken to him so readily! Most turn away from him out of fear, yet you look to him as a protector, a friend, a brother even. You are always allowed to seek refuge beneath the shadows of Malleus's cape. In fact, you needn't ask for permission, simply drape the fabric over yourself whenever you so please! (Malleus has always wanted a younger sibling, and while he certainly has a brotherly bond with Silver, the knight is a bit too old for him to dote on, unlike you.)

‧₊˚ ┊ It's quite hard for people to find Malleus scary and intimidating when you're burrowed beneath his cape. Actually, the sight helps to dampen the cold and untouchable image that most people have of the Prince. Lilia, of course, finds the sight quite cute and will take a million pictures of the two of you together since you're just too cute together! (If Malleus is your big brother figure, then Lilia is your fun uncle, while Sebek and Silver are your surrogate cousins — you're the unofficial member of the family that they all love and adore!)

‧₊˚ ┊ One wouldn't think it upon a glance, but Vil is actually quite a big fan of animated films! He did some voice work for a few movies and shows when he was younger, and it was during that time that he grew to love the art form. While Vil isn't an animator himself, he greatly appreciates the time and effort they put into their craft and thinks very highly of those in the industry! I mean all this to say, Vil would certainly be a covert Disney fan. (While he quite likes the animated movies, he cannot stand any of the live action remakes — he just doesn't see the point in them.)

‧₊˚ ┊ Vil is by no means one of those Disney adult types. Don't get me wrong, he will absolutely make sure his management team gets him a seat at the premiere of their next big film, but he's not gonna be Disney bounding or collecting merch. Well, he has some merch, specifically multiple original animation cells that he keeps in pristine condition. (They're lowkey his pride and joy, but if you ask he'll just say he's a collector lol.)

‧₊˚ ┊ Of course, Vil is very much supportive of your adoration for Disney! He would love to invite you to join him as his plus one when one of their new movies premieres, but he doesn't want to expose you to his fans and the public eye. To make up for it, he'll buy you all the merch your heart desires! Be it cute accessories, blind boxes, trinkets, or whatever else, if you want it, consider it yours. Vil would also love to go to a Disney park with you, but he'd, obviously, be recognized and swarmed with you in tow. Thankfully, he can pull some strings and get you both into the park either before or after hours so you can spend some time together enjoying the attractions without being hounded by nosy fans. (Yes, he will wear matching Mickey ears with you, but only because he loves you because otherwise, he wouldn't be caught dead wearing those things lol.)

‧₊˚ ┊ Idia just doesn't get it. Disney and everything it puts out is soooooooo overrated in his humble opinion. He remembers vaguely enjoying some of the movies as a kid, but he grew out of that a looooooong time ago. Now, he just sees Disney as a corporate entity rather than a creative entity. Idia is a hater, plain and simple. When it comes to you, though, he'll bite his tongue and keep his opinions to himself. (While he generally has a less-than-positive view of Disney, he makes no attempt to squash your love for the company.)

‧₊˚ ┊ The closest thing Idia's gotten to liking Disney is from playing Kingdom Hearts. He had a relatively positive opinion of the games, but the lore was way too complicated and the assortment of Disney characters kinda took him out of it. Still, Idia will totally sit and let you watch him replay all the games — he's playing everything from the three main games to Re:Chain of Memories, 358/2 Days, Dream Drop Distance and the like — just because he thinks you'd like them, since they prominently feature Disney characters. (Idia absolutely hatessssss Donald by the way, like every time that duck opens his mouth his hair flashes a bright red lol.)

‧₊˚ ┊ Idia isn't exactly anti-Disney, but his negative outlook on the company doesn't stop him from wanting to make you happy. He definitely feels bad that he can't bring himself to leave his room and venture to one of the hot, crowded, overstimulating Disney parks, so he tries his best to make it up to you in other ways. He gives you his card so you can buy whatever Disney merch you want, whenever you want. As cringey as he finds most Disney movies to be, he will, on occasion, sit and watch one with you if you ask him nicely enough. (He will deny liking any of the movies you watch together, but if you look closely, you might notice that over time, his dislike isn't as strong as he claims it is lol.)

‧₊˚ ┊ Due to the relative isolation Malleus grew up in, it took him quite some time to actually sit down and watch his first movie. In all honesty, he didn't find it to be very special, especially since he could easily conjure up moving pictures and the like using his magic. Animated movies were similarly lackluster to him, but he could at least commend their artistry and dedication to their craft. However, what did stir Malleus' heart was your love for these films. (He just likes seeing you happy, even if that happiness comes from something that he's not the biggest fan of.)

‧₊˚ ┊ While Malleus doesn't really see the appeal of Disney and its movies, he will absolutely sit and binge-watch them with you. He will pretend he's above watching pictures move on a screen, but he will sit there and let you play all your favorite movies just so he can cuddle up with you and share popcorn or other snacks. Malleus finds it cute when you quote lines from whatever you're watching and will look at you with stars in his eyes whenever you burst out into a musical number, even if you're terribly off-key. (He will absolutely mog you when it comes to singing, so don't try to get him to join in unless you want to get totally outclassed vocally lol.)

Trey is basically your human reminder system when it comes to making sure you take your meds because the last thing he wants is for your organs to start failing. ‧₊˚ ┊ Minajael has been surrounded by knights for basically all his life. Most join a royal household, big or small, the moment they graduate from squire to fill fledged knight. There's a stability in being beneath a banner — food, decent pay, and shelter — but at the same time, it strips away some freedom. It's give and take, in a sense, but it's not for everyone. (Still, most choose the path of formal knighthood for its clear benefits.)

‧₊˚ ┊ Some, like yourself, take the oath of a knight, but swear no fealty to any one lord or house. Hedge knights such as yourself lack the… prestige allotted to their 'official' counterparts. No one thinks of you when they imagine a night. No, they think of shiny armor, polished swords, and flowing capes. For a hedge knight, such things are a luxury.

‧₊˚ ┊ You see, since hedge knights aren't formally employed by any lord or house, money can be quite hard to come by. It is up to those a hedge knight serves — the everyday people — to compensate them accordingly or sometimes not at all. Such is the life of a hedge knight; one bound by a duty to be brave, be just, and protect the innocent. (Thankfully, most people are kind enough to at least offer food or other goods if they can't pay with money.)

‧₊˚ ┊ It is by no means a position with recognition or prestige, but it is one that brings you great satisfaction and fulfillment nonetheless. While your disillusionment with the formalities of knighthood led you to walk that rarely trodden path, you hold no ill will towards those who would lend their swords to some greater cause. In fact, you get along quite well with Sebek and Silver despite them being sworn to Malleus and, in turn, House Draconia. In your experience, most sworn knights look down on you for being a vagabond of sorts, but they only ever judge you by the strength of your resolve and your skill with a sword. (No matter what, you're brothers in arms even if your swords are lent to different causes!)

‧₊˚ ┊ Now, back to Minajael! Hedge knights, while incredibly rare, are not a new concept to him. There have been few who have visited the royal court, lending their services to his family for a time before leaving to continue their work. Some stayed, taking the official oath to join the royal knights, but most took their leave after their contractual obligations were complete. (If he remembers correctly, a few hedge-knights-turned royal-guardsmen are still employed by his family to this day.)

‧₊˚ ┊ In his younger years, Minajael found himself jealous of the hedge knights that would come and go from the palace. They could go wherever they wanted, do as they pleased, and help the people of the land along the way. It was the freedom he craved — the absence of pressure, of expectations, of responsibilities, and of anything to do with being prince. So, when he met you, a knight with the freedom to roam as they pleased, Minajael was, admittedly, jealous of you too. (He didn't hide it very well, though. Minajael wears his emotions on his face and doesn't try to hide what he's feeling at all.)

‧₊˚ ┊ Minajael very quickly got over his jealousy of you, instead, taking a great interest in the tales of your travels throughout Twisted Wonderland. He literally has you sit for hours upon hours — with bathroom, hydration, and snack breaks, of course — listening to you talk about your various escapades as a hedge knight. Minajael's personal favorite is how you once found yourself in the company of a young boy who you took to squire, only to later find out that he was a prince belonging to the Queendom of Rose's royal family! (Minajael is familiar with the boy in question, and he can confirm that he is quite the little troublemaker!)

‧₊˚ ┊ Through these tales, Minajael could experience the freedom he'd longed for since his youth. You were a breath of fresh air in many senses. Not only did you open his eyes to the wonders of the world outside his gilded cage, but you — despite the power and class difference between the two of you — treated him like a normal person. Of course, you were formal in the beginning, but you dropped 'my prince' and 'your grace' very quickly after Minajael insisted that you simply call him by his name. (Most continue to refer to him formally despite his assurances that he preferred them not to, so he's beyond thankful that you didn't just dismiss him.)

‧₊˚ ┊ The closeness between a prince and his knight is the kind of thing spoken about in poems, songs, stories and the like. You, however, were not Minajael's knight. You weren't sworn to him or his house, but you were his in a different way. He would never seek to bind himself to you through a knightly oath of fealty. Your freedom is your own, and Minajael would never dare to strip you of it just to keep you close to his heart. Instead, he let the affection between the two of you blossom slowly, but surely, over many deep conversations, shared secrets, and whispered confessions. (Minajael has never been as honest with someone as he's been with you. He trusts you with every fiber of his being, which isn't very easy for him to do.)

‧₊˚ ┊ For you, Minajael would abandon his title, leave behind his life, and start a new one with you. One where the weight of being prince doesn't weigh so heavily on his shoulders.
