Extra epilogue for Yours Truly, Near
Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: Death Note (Anime & Manga) Rating: General Audiences Relationships: Near | Nate River/Original Character(s), Near | Nate River/Original Female Character(s), Near | Nate River/Reader Characters: Near | Nate River, Stephen Gevanni | Stephen Loud, Original Characters, Original Female Character(s), Corrin (OC) Additional Tags: Slow Burn, Jealousy, Possessive Near, Friends to Lovers, Wammy's House (Death Note), F in the chat for Gevanni, He's not dead, Just going through it this chapter, Lowkey idiots in love, Childhood Memories, Chess, Light Angst, Hurt/Comfort Series: Part 3 of Deep Inquisitions (Near x OC) Summary:
His hair has grown long, silver strands dangling way past his small back. She finds it fascinating how his locks had once felt soft and fluffy, now smooth and silky as they slipped through her fingers. Perhaps it’s been ingrained in her bones to always assume impermanence. So many people have exited her life, as she did theirs. And in the chaos of it, she forgot that Near was not just anyone.
forever biting things about near btw. What if you were 13 and got told the man whose identity you had to replace was already dead. what if that man didn’t even reach twice your age. What if you hated every second of it but there’s nothing else for you to do anyway. what if you have to do it alone. What if you have people surrounding you, people who you trust, who you never ever show that trust to because you don’t understand your emotions and you don’t want them anyway. What if the only other person who went through the exact same thing as you dies. what if he was only a year and a half older than you. what if you cant tell if it was a necessary sacrifice or if he just really wanted to die. What if you won despite and because of him. What if you didnt win, anything, at all, in any way. What if you were 27. What if you were wondering when it was your turn. What if you kept living.
I've been rewatching Rupaul's Drag Race and since I've seen death note recently too that I made this random au / memes:
Yasss queens we got mello, matt, and near all competing...but whats this...already an alliance between Matt and mello! Near is off on his own..
Next:
Mello is fucking livid in untucked over Near having his second win. meanwhile, Matt is just glad he does not have to lipsync for his lifespan again
Next:
Mello complains. This happens frequently.
Next:
Light Yagami, you gotta shashay away
Next:
Next:
Next:
Who served the best be real ♡
Next:
Ornacia no more, it's...
Idk this was fun!
near: nice to meet you, L number two.
light: [freezes]
spectral hallucination of l lawliet: lie
light: number two? what do you mean by that?
spectral hallucination of l lawliet: lie better
Near: I know you're full of shit
Light: I've never shit in my life

Twin Bedheads
When I saw the scene in the last episode when Johan suddenly sits up out of bed, hair disheveled, giving Tenma a really intense but also somewhat groggy stare, all I think was that he looked like he was just rudely awakened and wants to go tf back to bed.
Maybe in a more peaceful AU, that is how he stares at his sister or his alarm clock when he's woken up for class.
And then that had me thinking about Nina and how she probably would look just as if not more murderous, so I drew her too.
Don't judge them, they have to process the trauma of being alive every time they wake up.
Okayyyyy how do you say hobbyless behavior in German please????
Thank you 💜💜
Hobbyless Behavior would be hobbyloses Verhalten (n.) but I usually say
someone is hobbyless - jemand ist hobbylos - or
raise a question, bist du hobbylos?! (are you hobbyless?!) or
if they can be not as hobbyless (as rn): sei mal nicht so hobbylos! (don't be so hobbyless)
Truly my favorite youth word while I was a teen (way back in 8th grade lol)
Saving this to my vocabulary
Many prefer the first part of Death Note to the second part and that's fine, people have different preferences. But I cannot stand the claim that Ohba and Obata only extended the run because it was doing so well that Shounen Jump pressured them to do it for more money.
Death Note follows the classic "Rise and Fall" tragedy. The first part is Kira's rise to power, the second is his fall from grace caused by hamartia. Which in Light's case is literally hubris - the most deadly and dramatic of them all.
If Death Note had ended with L's death, it would have been like:
If Macbeth ends when Macbeth becomes King of Scotland, and not when Macduff kills him
If the myth of Icarus ends when Icarus soars high above the clouds and not when he falls into the ocean
If The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars ends with Starman and not Rock 'n' Roll Su*cide
I say all that to say that Death Note must not, in any case, end unless Light/Kira has been sufficiently brought down.
Most adaptations try to reconcile with this while neglecting the second half. Like the first series of Japanese live action which gives L the victory a few minutes after he feigns death. Or the Netflix live action (forgive me for evoking its name) where Light ends up confessing all his crimes to his father on a hospital bed.
But this is not a "Rise and Fall" or at least not a good one. It lacks the dramatic impact of watching a man climb to power then slowly lose control of himself and everything he works for. The reason Death Note's second part is so satisfying is because of Light's gradual descent while still clawing desperately to hold onto his peak. Like if Icarus while falling still tries to flap his broken wings to get closer to the Sun once more.
There is no catharsis in a quick fix. Live action Light is simply outplayed for a moment, he is not brought down, not defeated the way manga/anime Light is.
Which is why despite all its MASSIVE flaws, I have to commend the 2015 drama series because at least they TRIED to be faithful to the structure of the original story. It's not that it's the only non-anime adaptation that features Near and Mello (debatable), but it's the only one that gives Light time to fall. I'll take it.
(But lowkey Rise and Fall stories work best when pride is a central theme and a primary characteristic. But TV Light was not introduced with that trait so when he starts acting like OG Light there's a real disconnect but it's fine, it's fine, really)
It struck me the other day that a shred of symbolism can be perceived in Mello's death. After suffering a heart attack, his corpse was burnt in a fire. That was not the first time he encountered a fire that damaged him, but it was the last. Mello's life was characterized by an intense ambition that drove the majority of all his actions and thoughts. Mello's passion is much like a fire. It's ruthless. Destructive. It pushes and pushes, turning everything to black char until the world is reduced to ash. Mello gaining a scar in the explosion, as well as being cremated against his will, is symbolic of self-destruction. Mello was a fire. And the fact that fire also seemed to cause him such grief in the story mimics how his own acts tore himself down. Every injury sustained was ultimately brought forth by himself. The death note never killed Mello. It was the very thing he thought he was living for that did.
Mello lived and died by the fire.
Speaking of which, when I was practicing reading tarot based on archetypes, I drew spreads for fictional characters, one of which was Mello. And the card that represented his core, I kid you not, was The Tower 🙃

I thought I was getting some Natsume's wholesome time hanging out with his friends (including a new occult girl) then all of a sudden
Matoba jumpscare
Shinobu jumpscare (technically Ban)
Natori jumpscare
They're all here
Bloodbending is terrifying yes but did anyone think about the possibility of using it for medical treatment?
Imagine somebody is bleeding, to prevent them from bleeding to death, can the bender keep the blood inside their body and stop the bleeding even temporarily? Can it be used to treat circulation issues?
Yes bloodbending is terrifying but can it be used for something good?
love this!!! Would be lovely to mix it with Monster: Klaus and/or Tenma using bloodblending for medical treatment would be OOOOF
Monster with bloodbending would be so symbolic. With the same power, who would kill and manipulate, who would heal and enlighten?
A blog for Lolita and Monster related ramblings (more or less chaotic)
Asks are open! Main blog. Can be NSFW.
I won't write "no minors", because, hey, we know you don't give a flying damn about this and that many people read Lolita as early as in their childhood years.
All I can say is: let's do our best to understand Lolita as well as we can. Operating on vibes and generalities can be dangerous.
Edit: added a masterlist
This blog will discuss topics related to child abuse (any form of child abuse, sexual among them).
MASTERLIST:

"Johan can get Light to write his name in the Death Note" this, "L would be able to solve the Monster case but not prove Johan's existence" that
Guys, if Johan ever runs loose in the Death Note universe, we all know that the perfect guy to send after him would be
MELLO
Mello who, as a teenager, tracked down a criminal unbeknownst to the world, Kira and law enforcement, then offed him and presented his head to a rival mob boss.
Mello who charmed his way to leading his own damn mafia and them literally doing EVERYTHING he says no matter how ludicrous. Talk about being the only one with social skills in the whole cast.
Mello whose HANDS ON approach may include (but not limited to) kidnapping, stalking, arson, etc. He's no stranger to Johan's shenanigans. Heck he's got his own resumé too. AND ONE THING IS FOR SURE HE'S NOT LETTING UP AND HE'S WILLING TO DO IT ALL
Mello who brings chaos to a game of pattern recognition and throws everyone off their groove. Sure he may not be the most calculating but as long as the target is human, he'll walk the earth, follow any minuscule trace of gunpowder and pin them down (or at the very least, make life very difficult for them).
Mello who would definitely yell "IT'S ON SIGHT BITCH" the moment he catches up because to him, that's as good as solved 🔫🔫🔫
(Near was stumped in the A-Kira case because unlike Light, Minoru doesn't make himself know and hides behind the magic of the Death Note. But Mello isn't gonna let a little anonymity stop him, his guns are ready to go anywhere.)
After the whole Matoba doomed siblings debacle, we get an arc about the Taki wholesome siblings
And it's beautiful 🥹🥹🥹
On Isamu having longer lashes than Natsume 👀
Maybe it's also the shape of their eyes. Natsume's eyes are more fox-like while Isamu's eyes are rounder.

The real male manipulator of Death Note is Near actually:
Fuels chaos (Mello) to confuse Light, withholds attention knowing full well Light craves it, gets Aizawa and Mogi to switch sides by reading their faces, sowing seeds of doubt and telling sympathetic stories about L. All the while maintaining an air of aloof detachment.
