To force Raye to unknowingly use the Death Note, Light threatens Raye's loved ones. At that point, information about Kira's killing method is not yet widely known. Light knows it, Light knows Raye will believe those threats. It doesn't matter that Light can't kill them, it matters that Raye believes he can.

I mentioned it in my video but Light manipulates Naomi by giving her something she's been consistently denied of: external validation. Her fiancé doesn't like it when she makes deductions and tells her to stop. When she shows up at HQ with evidence, they turn her away (even though it's their protocol, it's still a rejection). But Light loudly professes his trust in her and swears that he's willing to vouch for her. He throws in a couple of "you're young and beautiful" just in case. He gives her confidence, assurance, hope

When I saw the scene in the last episode when Johan suddenly sits up out of bed, hair disheveled, giving Tenma a really intense but also somewhat groggy stare, all I think was that he looked like he was just rudely awakened and wants to go tf back to bed.

Maybe in a more peaceful AU, that is how he stares at his sister or his alarm clock when he's woken up for class.
