so i put my hands up theyre playing my song the evil skull flies away
(via tomcardy)
this disability pride i wanna keep in mind the disabled people who are in a difficult situation because of their disability. people who were made homeless because of their disability, people who are stuck in abusive homes and can't get out because of their disability. people whose disability was used against them to facilitate abuse, like taking away their autonomy - medical, legal, or otherwise - taking charge of their finances, taking advantage of their vulnerabilities. it's reasonable to think that a lot of disabled people, especially disabled people in difficult circumstances such of these, would struggle to connect with the idea of disability pride. but pride or otherwise, this month should also be disability solidarity month. this month and every month is for all disabled people in all sorts of circumstances

Hey y’all I have an announcement! My web app that I’ve been working on, Afro Index, is now live! It’s a visual reference library of Black hairstyles, for artist, animators, writers, and anyone who wants to learn more about them!
Check it out at afroindex.org! 💛✨
A reference library for Black hairstyles with accurate naming, structured filtering, and curated reference images.
POV: you meet your mother's friend at your workplace and it's so embarrassing
Commissioning artists really makes you feel like a renaissance noble. Like you’ll get an email that just says “Hey sorry some things came up but I’m working on your piece and here’s a WIP” and suddenly you’re wearing sumptuous velvets and eating grapes on a reclining couch like “Ohoho! Take as long as you need, my Orpheus! My riches and time are a paltry price to pay to bring your beauty to the world! I am a ~Patron of the Arts!~”
tumblr is full of phrases that we are all so desensitized to that they're just normal, but if you say it to a person in real life its so funny to them its a one-hit insta kill
my fave additions from the notes
#i need you to know this is how braziians talks like. usually.#''i'll kill myself in front of them'' is usual talk#''i want them to come to impregnate me leave me and dont pay child support''#''please come to my house and fuck my family'#''guess i'll eat dirt now''#all things i hear daily
Hang on, I'm intrigued by this. Is this an example of convergent evolution or are their genetic ties between Brazilian humor and tumblr humor?
i think its just the humor being very similar. We love explicit wacky expressions, especially online!
we uuuuh are also usually left alone on social media because so few people know portuguese outside of brazil (compared to, say, english or spanish). so we just. say shit thinking none one will see. like this one time someone tweeted to lil nas x "lil nas x break into my house and eat the asshole of my entire family".
I have a friend who is very into sumo.
Trying to casually understand sumo is a little like trying to casually understand cricket. But I more or less get the basics just from watching tournaments with her.
But the one part of sumo that will always baffle me, even AFTER it was explained, is the giant macaron...
I legit thought these were photoshoped until I sat down and saw a match myself.
If they win a Sumo tournament they get a giant macaron.
It's just the French that do this. The bad news is the giant macaron is inedible. The good news is it comes with a 'luxurious' box of 22 real macarons.

"and the universe said i love you."
before we start posting that july is gay wrath month let’s consider that july is disability pride month first and foremost. the “be gay do crimes” memes can wait
before this post breaches containment and people start going “why not both hehehe” i want you to seriously consider the very long history of disabled people’s existence being pushed aside and/or seen as secondary. i promise you it’s not going to hurt to hold onto the memes and give disabled people space for visibility and celebration.
i say this as a disabled trans person whose trans identity is made front-and-center to the (mainly cis) people who know i’m trans but my identity as a disabled person is brushed off by the very same people.
actually speaking of this next book im reading i really like this line
Neanderthals are frequently spoken of as if they were dead-ends of human evolution or they went extinct because of modern humans or barely contributed anything at all to modern humanity, but i like this sentence because it actually frames them more as a success. more of their DNA exists on earth now than when they were alive as their own species. merging with the humans out of africa wasn't a death sentence it was what made them everlasting.
this one is She Has Her Mother's Laugh by Carl Zimmer! im quite enjoying it so far
Scientists have developed a breakthrough “superfood” for honeybees by engineering yeast to produce the essential nutrients normally found in
TLDR- Modern agriculture pollen is low in nutrients, and there aren’t enough wildflowers. Science has to develop vitamins to supplement the diets of agricultural bees. So plant some wildflowers for the wild bees near you.

I'm gonna say this, and it's gonna spark a defensive reaction within some of you, but I need you to listen to me and let it sit for a moment before I explain further. It is not a personal stain against your morality.
From both my experience reading works by white writers, and my experience running this blog, I have come to the conclusion that many white writers are too used to relying on Whiteness being understood as the default experience of both your characters and your readers, and it makes you weaker writers with weaker technique overall.
This is probably a little too much nuance, but whenever I see a "all borders are violence" post (a political position I generally agree with!) I always add a little asterisk that says "*but the border checks that keep you from bringing homegrown produce into big agricultural areas to avoid the transmission of parasites and invasive species are actually fine and if we were more vigilant about that kind of thing maybe we wouldn't have spotted lanternflies in the states."
That doesn't work as well as a slogan, though
Things borders should be for:
Biosecurity
Customs management (you do not want people importing a bunch of stuff that doesn't meet your country's safety standards, for example)
Things like that one lake in Europe where three national borders coincide and they built an island specifically so you can run between countries for fun
Things borders shouldn't be for:
Policing who can and can't come into a country
