It's that time again... The @crossfit Open! Thank you to the crew at @crossfitblizzard for taking care of me up in Tahoe. Happy with my score (205 reps - 5 rounds + 15 WBs), but also had to give it a go at sea level to see how things shook out with the @schuboxathletics family (243 reps - 6 rounds + 15 WBs) ...one full round higher! Glad to have @mealies and Jackson cheering me on for both attempts. I'm in the best shape of my life, so I'm super happy with my start this year. Looking forward to lifting something heavy soon. This right here is what CrossFit is. This actually brought tears to my eyes. Determination is an understatement! Brooke (whose visually impaired) knocked out 19.1 like a champ! First we worked on orientation to the equipment. Using boxes to keep the medicine ball from rolling away, and a trash bag with crumbled up paper taped to 9’ for her auditory target. We found that cycling a wallball isn’t really practical and is a bit unsafe too, so I have Brooke stand a bit further than normal to increase the chances of the ball dropping to the ground in front of her and just setting up for the next rep as a single. Sometimes I have to be on the defensive side to make sure she doesn’t get smacked in the face as you see lol. But overall she did amazingly well once we got her bearing! 1+19 with the 10lb medball! She went into this saying, well it’s ok if I don’t finish the first round of wallballs, this is just fun regardless. We blew that expectation out of the water! As an extra special treat I got to coach her mom as a drop in this afternoon and she got to watch Brooke take on this workout! The magic in The Open is still there for me; regionals or not this means something bigger than just competition, it’s the community and the people. good morning friends. it’s the most wonderful time of the year - the crossfit open! so if you don’t want to know anything about this i’m sorry because for the next five weeks this is basically all i’m talking about.
i had a pretty busy weekend so i didn’t get to do this on saturday after the workout like i normally would but later is still okay. 19.1 was:
15 min AMRAP:
19 wall balls
19 cal row
so not a workout that i’m naturally going to be good at i.e. i’m short and these two movements tend to favour tall people. i was just going to rely on my strength and hope that i was conditioned enough to push through the full fifteen minutes. it was pretty bad; i knew i wasn’t going to repeat it so i fully redlined/whitelipped/went HAM on it. my strategy was to do the wall balls unbroken and the row at ~900 cal/hr. did that. made 247 reps (6 full rounds plus 19 reps). one and done!
this year i’m aiming for top 500 in the country, top 10 000 in the world, and top 15 in the state. #ambitious
19.1 & done. . I am proud of my effort and my execution according to the plan that I set for myself. I beat my goal by a full round and was able to keep my splits fairly even round over round. .
