It’s so crazy that suicide prevention is just people going awwww don’t!! Awwww come on noooooooooo stopppppp
One of the best ones I saw was a thing noting that every single one of the few survivors of suicide jumps off of the Golden Gate Bridge realized, on the way down, that the problems they were killing themselves over actually were fixable or could be worked through...except for the now - extremely unfixable - problem of gravity.
Went to the Holocaust Museum in DC once. There was a video interview of an Auschwitz survivor who said he and some other prisoners stayed up all night with a man who wanted to kill himself. The man didn’t kill himself and survived to liberation.
In the video the survivor said “Never seek a permanent solution to a temporary problem. And they’re all temporary problems.”
Hearing that from a guy who survived the Holocaust rewired my brain a little bit.
I think something a lot of people don't understand is that depression is not suicidality, and suicidality is not depression. People can, and are, depressed without being suicidal, and sometimes suicidality peaks as people are emerging from depression. Suicidality is a wave, and the trick is to allow that wave to crest and subside WITHOUT acting on it. Whatever it takes to ride it out. For some people that's distraction, like watching television. For others it's calling a friend -- not to talk about the suicidality, but just to talk. For others it could be as simple as going to sit in a coffee shop or library, because the presence of other people is a huge diminisher of suicide risk. That's what suicide safety planning is about. It's like having any other type of emergency plan, like a plan for fire or evacuation. It's making a plan when you are in the frame of mind to do so, so that you can just DO the plan without having to think about it when the occasion arises. When you're in the midst of suicidal ideation, or even intent, you're not in a problem-solving mood. So knowing past!you, with the help of a therapist hopefully, came up with the plan and all you have to do is follow up until the wave crests and subsides, is what allows you to see another day.

i dont need to tell anyone this but theres a White House App out and do not download it even as a joke
Literally do not. Like. if you already did then you may want to factory reset your device(s) and change any possibly affected credentials
According to people who work with code, this may actually be able to close a 911 call because Trump wants to send a fundraiser email through it.
It also seems like it will go off, sound and vibration, whenever someone posts. Trump is awake at 2 AM. You will not be able to shut off your phone or stop the noise until you handle this. It will also drain your battery by being a surprise 2 AM noisemaker.
Don't put it on your phone. It's actually stealing less data than I expected (I mean, yes, OBVIOUSLY it's tracking your location and sending that to any cop who's bored, but it isn't taking any credit card info, so hey, that's nice), but it still can access and fuck up anything saved on your phone, record any unlocking method you use including fingerprint and face, and seems to want to do so to force you to suddenly have an explosion of noise.
Again: this may extend to dropping a call for an ambulance.
Don't install it.
The official White House Android app has a cookie/paywall bypass injector, tracks your GPS every 4.5 minutes, and loads JavaScript from some
NEW INFORMATION CAME OUT!
Based on this article and other discussions with tech people, the app:
Provides your location, every 4.5 and 9.5 minutes, to Trump and company;
Can copy, modify, or delete information on your phone;
Can alter webpages you visit through them;
Has multiple security flaws;
Is creating a personal profile on users;
Can, in fact, interrupt phone calls, no definite answer on 911 but very likely;
Is showing signs of being spyware in unstated ways.
DO NOT INSTALL THIS.
My wife was trying to test something I guess and they sent me a locked video for $3. So naturally I bought it and its just our wobbly cat kevin.
I knew Thorin and Bilbo were secretly pining for each other

Being a trans dude is like being Schrodinger’s man. I’m a guy when it can be used against me and a woman when it can be used against me, but I’m never “trans” to these transandrophobic fucks
Frustrated Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers fled a Minnesota neighborhood after residents alerted each other by triggering car a
Basically, people are using their key fobs to set off their car alarms when they see ICE.
This is effective for several reasons:
Obviously, it alerts everyone that something is wrong. Given ICE has been terrorizing Minnesota, people are likely to immediately know it is ICE. This gives people time to flee or barricade themselves in their homes.
ICE loses the element of surprise.
If one person hears a car alarm go off, they can trigger their own alarm, alerting even more people, but also making it really annoying for ICE. Annoying sounds petty, but it can be effective. Have you ever been in a building when a super loud fire alarm went off? It's very hard to concentrate. You can't hear much else. You just want to leave. ICE experiences this when a whole street if car alarms go off. Which means they make mistakes.
Here in Occupied Minneapolis, I am reeling after reading the news this morning. I live less than two blocks from where Renee Good was brutally murdered last week.
I had believed after seeing the footage that Renee Good's death was effectively instant. That one of the three shots fired had been a head shot.
It turns out that was incorrect. She was shot twice in the chest. At least one bullet hit the left side of her head--she was bleeding out her ear--and her left arm. They're not sure yet if it was four shots or three per her body's condition. If it was the three we all saw and heard, then it sounds to me like she raised her left arm defensively, possibly.
But more importantly, her death was NOT instant. When EMS was finally permitted to reach her, twenty minutes after she was shot, she still had a pulse. She had at that point stopped breathing, but she STILL HAD A PULSE. I know how long it takes to get to the nearest trauma centre from our neighbourhood. It's six minutes. It's VERY close to us.
But they wouldn't let a physician bystander render aid--they threatened to shoot him. They wouldn't let EMS bring their rig up to the scene. They made EMS carry in their equipment and they made EMS carry Renee to their rig.
Twenty minutes is how long it took them to allow her to receive aid. Twenty. Fucking. Minutes.
When she was six minutes away from a level one trauma centre.
I wonder if she was conscious at any point as she sat in her car, bleeding. I wonder if she could hear her wife screaming that they'd killed Renee. I wonder if she thought 'I'm not dead yet.' I wonder if she wondered why no one was helping her. I wonder if she thought of her children. I wonder if she thought they'd killed her wife, too.
I wonder how alone and cold and frightened she was as she sat there bleeding in her car, with a doctor nearby and EMS trying to get to her.
I don't know what structures in her body were damaged. I don't know if Renee could have lived after her injuries. I don't know what recovery might have looked like, or if it was possible.
But I know that her brave, strong heart beat for twenty minutes after she was shot. I know that her family was robbed not just of her life but of any chance to say goodbye while her heart still beat.
And above all, I know that she did not need to die. Jonathan Ross murdered her for that brave, strong heart that beat for twenty minutes after he tried to extinguish her life in a heartbeat.
Renee was here. And she was Good.

No permanent solutions to temporary problems
No permanent solutions to temporary problems
I must keep reminding myself of this, I must keep reminding myself of this
One of the main things that's carried me is a quote from Animorph's The Andelite Chronicles:
"And then it came to me, in a moment of clarity: I had no choice. When Arbron had been in utter despair and had wanted to die, I stopped him. Because without life there is no despair, but without life there can also never be hope."
In the 1950s, my grampa chose not to die by suicide because he was reading Lord of the Rings and had only gotten through The Two Towers (ROTK wasn't out yet), and he "wanted to see how it all turned out." He ended up getting caught up in other things, and never did read it.
He learned the ending in the early 2000s, with me, long after he'd stopped reading fantasy, because I heard this story and got to tell him it'd actually just come out...on DVD.
Fifty years after it saved his life, he found out how it all turned out.
Now, isn't that worth staying alive for?
So it's not my circus, but one of my monkeys did previously work there so i actually have a lot of opinion's on the circus' labor practices
Reminds me of being a trans man. Yes I have a beard but I still lived as a woman for the majority of my life (and I haven't had bottom surgery yet) so I feel like I get to have an opinion about women's issues.
Nicky's gonna get stabbed if he keeps pointing out the twins have a type.
Love this. I've always headcanoned Katelyn as being super close to Neil in looks for this exact reason. Nicky is spot on lol
The new Audible Harry Potter series is bad in uncomplicated, straightforward ways.
It is bad because it supports a woman who is actively funding groups that are seeking to deprive trans people of their rights in the UK and especially Scotland, where I live, where people inside the government are quietly remarking that they are struggling to fight against the groups she funds, as she has more money than God. Any money made from this new audio adaptation goes directly to funding these groups and these cases.
It is also bad because commissioning such an expansive series with such a well-known cast (Riz Ahmed?! Come on man) has eaten up the majority of Audible's commissioning budget. In the UK, the only people commissioning audio drama are the BBC (separate conversation) and Audible, and this new Harry Potter series has hoovered up resources that could have otherwise gone to new stories, new voices and money to creators that aren't actively trying to erase trans people.
I am angry at anyone who signed up to star in this, I am angry at the production companies that took on this commission, I am angry that this series continues to have a stranglehold on the UK media landscape despite all that its creator has done.
It is bad for trans people, it is bad for audio drama, it is bad for anyone working in media in the UK right now.
Do not listen to it
Yeah I think that the conversation about how bad this has been for audio drama in specific is something that people don't realise, and that *also* harms trans people and other marginalised people trying to make art. At the moment, it's difficult to make a career in the arts whatever medium you're trying to work in, especially if any parts of your identity are marginalised. Audio drama in its current iteration is such a young industry with so few funding streams that to see one almost completely disappear up the arse of a project it seems nobody was really asking for is really frustrating.
