Being able to simply identify your thoughts when they happen or are about to is a much harder and more skilful task than we give credit for. Take the credit and recognise your thoughts when they happen. A is for ACCEPTANCE. It's ok to have a variety of thoughts, it's ok to think about how brilliant you are, or how rubbish that assessment was. What isn't ok it to attach emotion, simply accept thoughts for the cognitive impulses that they are. I is for INVESTIGATION. When a thought arises, is there a memory/story/body sensation attached? Be the detective, whatever you discover is OK. Finally N is for NON-IDENTIFICATION. Here is where you get to say "I see you; thoughts, emotions, pain. But I am going to step back today" you can observe the thoughts without getting involved. This is #mindfulness , it is also #yoga / #yogasutras , it is also #buddhism. If you like this, ok. Thanks @linneaskywalker for the #stopdropandyoga challenge it's my first one! ππ thought I'd go for the 'gentle' forward fold #PrasaritaPadottanasana #wideforwardbend so I would use my bendy back to get me where I wanted to be (as close to the floor as I could be!) annnnd then I'd pull a little more. What I have learnt in the past few years that βnormalβ is not real. Society and media encourage you to conform to 60% of the populationβs habitual tendencies, when actually they arenβt often healthy and show and underlying mental health issue being hidden also. Take junk food at cinemas, the subconscious/automatic eating whilst maintaining the mindβs focus on a big screen actually ensures you recognise none of the food content, positively or negatively. Thinking about what you eat is an innate action of many of us with ED, and it is actually a mindful was of eating. If you can allow yourself to recognise that everything you do is not a failing and praise yourself for concentrating on eating whatever meal you are on at that moment in time then you will in time learn to praise yourself for completing that task. That apparently overwhelming task of eating can in time become manageable, it will happen, you just need to have faith and belief in yourself.

What I love about #ashtanga is that over regular practice of the series you are currently in, you become the variable, NOT the routine, maybe the environment but almost certainly yourself. You learn to respect your body and work with how it feels second by second, hour by hour, day by day. #Mindful living, it's a great concept and widely used in daily life with #yogis because it is the term to describe taking an objective approach to life. Allowing strong emotions and interactions to come into our lives without feeling that we have to grasp onto them and make them define who we are. For example being able to work with those who suffer from depression without becoming that way yourself, however also not being heartless to that person. It is a fantastic technique to use when approaching physical limitations in #asana. You look at the posture from an objective point of view, you accept there is a limitation, and you say THAT'S OK! What is difficult about #mindfulness though is when you try to use it if you are still within the haze of a strong experience, such as #depression, #anorexia, #OCD . trying to be objective with your emotions when they are very raw and new to you is like trying to be a manager of a company you know nothing of. Don't be hard on yourself, just know that when you are ready, change will come ππ #mentalhealth (at Nowhere and everywhere)
