wait is it really true that "the noughties" isn't just a common expression in most of the world???
like, people must at least know it, right? it's just that i don't want to put it in a post and have everyone stare at me blankly like they did when i said "fortnight"

I've definitely heard the term, but I tend to say "the aughts."
