The smell of a new book is unmatched but so is spending time with someone you've grown up with... there's such... a calmness... no reason to pretend... a familiarity that comes with meeting at 14 and maybe not staying friends after high school and then reconnecting... they've known you in all your phases... even when you both disliked each other for a while...for very valid reasons...but... the yearning to become friends again stayed in your souls... and now that you are... nothing has ever felt so right. I love my friends with all my heart. Especially the one's who grew up with me. And yes I count teenage years as a serious growing up time.
It's mind-boggling to know we're at the age we used to think was so old... but also the age we saw our older cousins and aunts and uncles at and thought was so so cool. And we are pretty cool people. At this age of 24 going on 25.
We are those cool adults we knew as teens. If not cooler and more fun because it's us. We finally enjoy vegetables and puri and patha and we absolutely need a glass of water or we will perish. But also we laugh so hard and tear up and have jokes about things in the past and references about a life lived by these two nerdy kids back then.
It all seems so very far away... high school... my bad hair styles..god that was embarrassing... but that was me..and that was them... thank god for people who watched you grow up and have loved most if not all the versions of you... thank goodness for friends who will continue to evolve and adapt with you... we're far from perfect... we are messy and chaotic and make bad decisions and good choices and live different lives but...we exist...
It's so nice and quiet rn... i can hear the crickets outside... the mellowed out rush of cars passing on nearby roads... the hum of the highway echoing up the hills... the tv muffled through the wall... it's all so calming ...
Sometimes i wonder if this is what it's like to have a calm brain... a mind that just lets itself sit in silence and doesn't have to be whirring like a hamster in one of those wheels...
