With over 3000 hours played, I have a lot of conflicting emotions about it. This month's essay is a look at the past, a meditation on the present, and some thoughts about the future.

They keep going to these one-off worlds with utterly bizarre spins on premeses, and I'm so here for it. "Humanity is digitized but we still ride trains through space because our sense of wonder at being so small is vitally important to us." THAT FUCKS. While I'm not always the biggest fan of the content of this show, it's really got the juice when it comes to creating fun places and characters with very little budget. And really, isn't that historically been the true charm of tokusatsu?

Wild that a few months in, I'm really enjoying Gavan Infinity and getting irritated at every episode of Zeztz.

So...we're just pretending the Exdream Driver doesn't exist? Not even trying to give a reason why Baku won't henshin against Nox? I've had a lot of thematic issues with the last few episodes, but this just seems...messy, structurally, in a way I can't see a reason for.

I usually don't harp on things like this in plots, but when the whole episode is external drama rather than being character driven, I have nowhere else to look besides, "The show set up a solution to these kinds of problems already, but it's just ignoring it."

These characters mostly aren't doing anything! Minami just standing there and blinking her eyes is the most scathing indictment of her as a character...and it's just the text of the show!
