I want to add something to the beta discussion because it’s rarely mentioned, and can be a little bit tricky, but if you are a person who is up to do beta work then you can reach out to writers too!
My most loyal beta (honestly, where would I be without you?) gushed over my fic in the comments for a few chapters and then ended with something along the lines of “I can tell that English isn’t your first language, do you want me to help with SPAG?” which then turned into characterisation beta as well, and contingency beta, and brainstorming buddy, and a 10+ friendship.
I know it can be sensitive going into the comment section and go “hey, it looks like you could use a beta reader!” and I wouldn’t recommend doing it as first interaction, but “I love your story, do you want to talk about your fic with me?” could be the start of something great if you're up for it.
I rarely use beta readers (I'm too impatient lol) but I have connected with one this way too! They confessed later that their primary motivation was to be able to read my chapters earlier (this was in like 2015 or so when there was a bit of a delay in emails about chapter updates). I didn't care, though! We had a lot of fun, and I love brainstorming with another person about characters and plotlines.
