you know what fic trope doesn’t get talked about enough? the no kissing on the lips rule. the “we can fuck nasty like it’s our job but don’t put your mouth anywhere near mine” type thing. burning kisses pressed to necks, a bite, noses brushing, frustrated whines and searching hands but no kissing. never kissing. all the lead up and no relief. breathing into each other’s mouths close enough to touch, pained eye contact, just a little bit closer and it would happen, and they want it to, but not enough to admit it, not enough to break the rule, not enough to give them both what they need. that is of course until the illusion shatters. until someone does break the rule. heat of the moment, both frantically leaning into it like magnets, inevitable, how could they have kept themselves from this? how could they ever stop? but of course they do and now the rule has been utterly destroyed. they know what it’s like now. to feel the other person’s lips against theirs, know the taste of their spit, that shock of tongue, soft bites and licks, the wet heat of it. knocked down by the jolt of sudden and tangible intimacy. and it wasn’t supposed to happen. they agreed. they decided. but it did. and now there’s nowhere to hide. and god isn’t that just the best?

I wish I could buy George as an alpha and enjoy fics like that, but I just can’t.
And it’s not even because of his looks. It’s because he’s treated exactly the way an omega would be in the real world: mocked and disliked for being too pretty, for not fitting the traditional dudebro mold, constantly held to double standards, and called “bitchy” or “whiny” or “desperate” for the same traits and behaviors that get alphas praised as confident, assertive, or ruthless.
George is basically the real-world equivalent of an omega: “very beautiful,” “a princess,” “with feminine lips,” endlessly scrutinized, never given quite enough respect no matter how well he performs, and subjected to criticism that often feels disproportionate to anything he’s actually done.
That’s why I can never see him as a privileged alpha. It feels completely out of character to me.

transmigrator liu qingge except he's actually a regresser. user 003 ("who the hell is user 001 and user 002???"). one of the things that led to him regressing is liu mingyan, his sister, looking at him after bingqiu's canon wedding and saying something like, "had you made a move back then, i would have supported you," which has lqg,,, kinda confused at first? he thought he WAS making a move.
as it turns out, returning and gifting shen qingqiu fans, dropping corpses of monsters on shen qingqiu's front porch, and fighting to win back shen qingqiu's corpse for five years straight is not the usual definition of "making a move". at least, according to this 'system' thing in his head. mu qingfan and hong jing found nothing amiss, so maybe he actually is losing it.
the system prattles at him, talking about nonsense stuff like quests and points and avoids answering any meaningful questions. it don't leave no matter what he does, and the one time he tried to defy it he nearly had a qi deviation. it directs him to different people, facilitates minor events, with no discernable cause or final goal; this irks him. he throws himself into training to distract from the system and everyone seeming to move on. liu qingge is still somehow stuck on shen yuan, and the system seems pleased about that for some reason.
it asks him one day, are you happy? liu qingge thinks that's irrelevant, the people he cares about comes first. and of course he's happy, he gets to kill all the monsters he wants, each one more challenging than the last. and the system asks, so you are okay with not having a happy ending? completely ignoring everything else liu qingge said. and at the end of the day, liu qingge has accepted that he can't have everything he wants in life — that became apparent when shen qingqiu married luo binghe. he can live with that.
suddenly his ears are ringing with "CONGRATULATIONS CONGRATULATIONS CONGRATULATIONS! Good things must be said thrice! User 003 has successfully completed the tutorial and is now eligible for regression! Please stand by while we transfer User to the furthest possible Branch Event."
liu qingge is like, what?? and suddenly between one blink and the next, he's laying against hard stone and shen qingqiu is staring down at him. "System welcomes User to Lingxi Cave Branch Event!"
what. the. fuck.
he acts somewhat the same towards shen qingqiu as he initially did in canon, except much of his confusion and frustration is directed at the system. what is happening! he's stuck here forever?!?! and he doesn't get to learn anything until shen qingqiu leaves him be. he feels guilty watching shen qingqiu leave.
the system tells liu qingge he has one primary quest, minimize as much angst as possible and endeavor to lead key characters to the happy ending they deserve! what the fuck. why him??? why not yue qingyuan or shen qingqiu or mu qingfan or some shit???? he's gonna do it because he isn't an asshole and he does care abt these people, but he isn't really... good at anything aside from fighting (hhe's a big oaf who isn't rlly sure how to people in my heart <3). and what does the system mean by key characters, this isn't one of mingyan's crappy novels. and the system just says good luck user!! your tutorial points are your starter points!! i believe in you!!!!!
