I tried to tell my friend about "Marie curie"s real name bcs she was polish and I'm (part) polish. Her real name is maria salomea skłodowska-curie. the only slightly tricky part is her maiden name, skłodowska. which is only hard at all when you don't know the pronunciation of ł (it's like a w). the rest of her name is exceedingly simple as an English speaker, and since w is pronounced as a v her maiden name would be pronounced "skwodovska". I sent this much more concisely to said friend (eg. she was polish and this was her real name, pronounced like this) and she hit me with the "I'm not learning to pronounce all that lol"

yes some vowels are pronounced differently

Ariel already loved the human world long before meeting Eric (you don’t get a collection like hers overnight) and when she finally got a chance to explore it, she took it.

It’s also true that her father’s actions were abusive. At no point does he say anything like “enjoy these relics all you like, but never be seen by humans. Those who are rarely come back.” It’s not protection. It’s control.

Should she be striking out on her own at sixteen? NO! Is she in a situation where it’s extremely understandable why she is? YES!

I’ve been in Ariel’s shoes. I’ve watched my mother smash my beloved belongings in front of me with a hammer, or force me to do it myself, because I forgot part of my homework or did something she didn’t like. And I can tell you that behavior escalates. I ran away when I was Ariel’s age (although I didn’t get far) because my mother actively tried to strangle me with my own hoodie. It’s terrifying. The most unrealistic part of that scene to me is that Ariel laid down to cry in the middle of the room instead of in a tiny little cranny it’d be hard for Triton to physically drag her out of.
