I had the privilege to take some higher level math classes a long time ago when I was in college. And I remember thinking that, at some high level, math seems like philosophy where people are pondering questions just in an effort to understand the world around them, not to to build a bridge or give the change back after selling a candy bar. And then someone told me that the PhD is an acknowledgment that when you go above applied anything, math chemistry physics english spanish art women's studies, you have entered the realm of philosophy. You are pondering, and sometimes answering, existential questions. And it sort of blew my mind.
And this is why universities are still relevant after 900 years or whatever. We know a lot more about the world around us but there are still mysteries of our existence to ponder.

And it causes this very blatant imbalance where a lot of classes in high school get crammed together and cut short (social studies, history and geography) but math gets a lot of time to shine by itself on any given subject
Which is why people are tired of seeing math. By way of "it's particularly difficult and an easy method of measuring people grasp of the subject" WHICH also robs math of the philosophy side

So!
Was recently hospitalized due to some real bad anemia complications. Turns out if you ignore your body's Check Engine light, your body will decide when and where you cease functioning. Got a couple units of blood and an ultrasound that found a couple uterine masses (probably fibroids, haven't had the follow-up exam to identify them properly). I'm home now and recovering, after missing two weeks of work.
The bad news! I don't have insurance and I don't have the income to cover monthly payments on top of rent/utilities/food.
I've applied for assistance thru the hospital and I'm mid-process with a couple government programs (nightmare nightmare nightmare), but I have nothing in the interim. The paycheck that just came thru has already been spent on this month's gas/electricity.
I'm asking for help with
groceries ($200, includes cat food and litter)
bus fare ($36 for a 31-day pass)
august home bills ($145 for water/internet/vet bills)
august hospital bill ($549)
