In case you haven't already heard, the Amazon rainforest has been in flames for the past ~3 weeks.
This is extremely bad and the media isn't covering this as they should. I myself found out about this on reddit, 2 weeks after the flames started and I was unpleasantly surprised that I didn't hear about this before, given that I spend a hefty amount of hours per day on the Internet.
This forest provides us with lots of oxygen, it's even nicknamed "The lungs of the planet".
We need to raise awareness of this!
As many have already pointed out, when Notre Dame was burning it was all over the news and billionaires started donating money for its reconstruction. Why isn't this fire, which is in my opinion way more devastating than that of Notre Dame, as mediatized?
Forest fires are a normal thing, especially during the hot months of the year but this one is man-made.
We are destroying our planet, and it will be really hard to plant back all the trees we are losing right now. And even if we did plant them back it would take years for them to grow enough to provide the same amount of oxygen.
Please search on the Internet for more information about this and do anything you can to help, our planet can't take hit after hit of man-made problems.
I only wanted to raise awareness about this, I hope you will do this too, as this is a really concerning event.

"The country's space research center (INPE) said this week that the number of fires in Brazil are 80% higher than last year. More than half are in the Amazon region, spelling disaster for the local environment and ecology.
The Amazon forest produces about 20% of the world's oxygen, and is often called "the planet's lungs." According to the World Wildlife Fund, if it is irrevocably damaged, it could start emitting carbon instead -- the major driver of climate change."
