RIP bozo status pending
collection
Watched a documentary about abuse and advice one guy said to give children was, "Tell them that if someone is hurting them, to tell someone - and don't just tell one person. Tell as many people as possible, and keep telling as many people as possible until the abuse stops." and i really liked that
Bc so many ppl focus on the idea of telling A Trusted Adult, but even a well-meaning individual can fuck up and let abuse fall through the cracks or not know what to do
Whereas if a child tells LOADS of adults AND other kids, there's far less opportunity for an abuser to do damage control
Consistently telling their story and spreading it around disempowers the abuser to control and coerce the flow of information, or to utilise gaps and weaknesses in systems of reporting or welfare to isolate the child
Just really good advice. Not suprised I don't hear it more often.
This is really good advice and, in the UK at least, also applies to āadults at riskā as well. Itās what I did when I had problems with my social care provider that amounted to a safeguarding concern earlier this year.
If your school safeguarding lead, youth worker, scout leader, neighbour, doctors surgery, local citizens advice office etc. all make referrals and follow up on them to make sure theyāve been received and taken seriously then itās more likely that it will be taken seriously and that action will happen.

can you imagine being a parent in the pokemon world and your kid comes home with one of those straight up basically human pokemon. i know those motherfuckers can talk.
its morning. i see my childs Throh getting some oj from the fridge. 'morning', i say. he doesnt catch himself in time and says 'morning' back. he freezes and we both stare at each other knowingly. 'throh,' he says, but its too fucking late
this reads like it was submitted to a local newspaper in the early 1900s
"Don't eat all of that sugary food..."
"...You'll gain weight" š«
Wrong
Body negative
You need way more calories than a slice of cake to gain even one pound
"...You'll get sick" ā
Correct
Sugar is good but if you eat too much you get stummy ache :(
Better when eaten in moderation anyway
Prioritizes listening to your body
"...Without me" š
Secret third option?
Encourages community
Get sick with someone you love
World's best bonding activity

I recently found my āgoldā hammer after misplacing it. Itās my favorite tool ever because it looks like a regular hammer trying to be fancy,
but then you twist both halves and unscrew it to find a flat-head screwdriver in the middle.
BUT, if you twist the very end and unscrew that
you find a phillips screwdriver.
BUT DONāT THINK THATāS ALL THERE IS!Ā THEREāS MORE!! unscrew the very end again to find a smaller flat-head screwdriver!
BUT THATāS STILL NOT THE END!!
unscrew the end of this screwdriver to find a final, teeny tiny, flat-head screwdriver
look at how cute it is!
itās like a matryoshka doll of tools.
I have one of these and I keep it in my IT toolkit because that teeny little screwdriver is the right side for laptop casings, but because it lives inside a large object itās harder to misplace than a standard tiny screwdriver. Also because the look on a clientās face when you bring out a brass hammer to fix their laptop is absolutely wild.
Submitter comment: I'd like to submit this '[s]tudy of defensive behavior of a venomous snake as a new approach to understand snakebite' not for it's topic (worth studying!) but for it's insane methodology, which... well, I'll just let the researcher speak for himself:
[Q: Why did you decide to do this experiment?
A: Snake behavior has been generally neglected as a field of research, especially in Brazil. And most studies donāt examine what factors make them want to bite. If you study malaria, you can research the parasite that causes the diseaseābut if you donāt study the mosquito that carries it, you will never solve the problem. Up until now, the popular wisdom was that the jararaca would only attack if you touched it or stepped on it. But that was not what we found.
Q: Why did you need to be the victim?
A: The best way to do this research is to put snakes and a human together. In this case, the human was me. We put the snakes inside a ring on the floor of our lab until they got used to it, then I stepped in wearing special protective boots. I stepped close to the snake and also lightly on top of it. I didnāt put my whole weight on my foot, so I did not hurt the snakes. I tested 116 animals and stepped 30 times on every animal, totaling 40,480 steps.]
From the recent (aptly named) interview: Researcher steps on deadly vipers 40,000 times to better predict snakebites
Had this in my head for a while
So Rocky has a bunch of permanent carvings along his carapace like family crest, rulers and protractors, marriage symbol, etc. I assume thats normal for Eridians, but the possibility that it's socially equivalent to getting full body tattoos for humans is funny. Imagine seeing this super inked out dude, but you look closer and its just a bunch of tattoos like.
"I LOVE MY HUSBAND," "FAMILY MAN," "ENGINEERING4LYFE."
An author I follow on IG posted about her older books getting new covers and having the opportunity of going through them and edit them to make the referencers more āmodernā like group chats instead of group texts and I have seen other people mention about older books getting updates like this (was it pretty little liars and the deal changing the name of tv shows to more recents ones?) and I have to say I absolutely hate this.
I hate that they are trying to modernize older books with things that are going to be outdated in a couple of years. I hate that authors can go and take out the age of their characters after a decade (looking at you six of crows). I hate that authors do this and donāt tell their fans they are doing this.
Leave the books how they were written, add disclaimers at the start if you want but donāt touch the actual text. A book is a result of the time period it was written, adding stuff like scrolling through TikTok in a book that was published way before social media existed doesnāt make sense and I hate it.
