we met eyes across a crowded Build-A-Bear and it was over. self-proclaimed frog princess, has turned down at least one (1) suitor. no ears, so the cowboy hat lives around the eyeballs now — a bold choice, works anyway. shows up for sushi, dinner dates, whatever's on the menu. carries a storybook because she's already living one 📖💕

named for and dressed in honor of one (1) Blanche Devereaux — low-cut, waist-cinched, a dress the woman herself would clock approvingly. smells like strawberries on purpose. thinks the room got better when she walked in. no notes, she's right 🍓💋

Welcome back to another Mickey Mondays, pals! Every single week, except for the ones that exist only in those alternate dimensions with 87 weeks a year, we grab a Mickey and Friends plush and watch some Mickey and Friends animation. We’re back to the House of Mouse this week, so let’s take a look at what we’ve got!

The Animation: “House of Genius” aired almost 25 years ago, featuring a wild wraparound where Ludwig Von Drake announces to Mickey and the gang that they’ve all been replaced with robot doubles. Ludwig seems to think this would be an improvement.

At first, as you can imagine, things are pretty interesting with our new robot pals. I like the robot Mickey design. However, as we all know, nothing can actually replace Mickey Mouse. Watching Mickey face these duplicates remind me of why I love him so much in the first place. In between great jokes with Captain Hook demanding a PAN pizza, and a notable appearance with Willie the Giant, we get to see Mickey at his best.

Mickey refuses to give up. He refuses to let Ludwig’s ridiculous robots take over. He’s right to believe the people will want the real thing. They do, which leads to the destruction of Ludwig’s robot-making machine. The gang then works together to defeat each robot, with Robo-Mickey going down last. No one’s going to replace our heroes!

The two cartoons featured in “House of Genius” connect to the larger story really well. “Futuremania” showcases Ludwig taking Mickey, Donald, and Goofy on a tour of what their future will look like. Surprise, surprise, it all goes very badly, with every future invention causing more headaches than help. The backgrounds for this short are really abstract and interesting!

“Mickey’s Mechanical House” is my favorite of the two. Told entirely in rhyme, the short features Mickey trading in his old digs for a futuristic house that promises to make everything easier. However, Mickey soon decides he doesn’t really like the house making absolutely every decision for him. This leads to a battle of wills that again shows you Mickey’s determination against all odds. He destroys the house, and with Pluto in tow, returns to his original yellow house. Perfect.

This is such a great episode of The House of Mouse! I think it has a good message about improvement being necessary and useful, but not at the expense of the people it should be helping. I also think this episode is a great watch for anyone who likes seeing Mickey be brave and stand up for what he believes in. As usual, you won’t find this on Disney Plus, but it’s free to watch in excellent quality on YouTube!

The Plush: The Robo-Mickey featured in today’s episode would make for a pretty cute plush!  Unfortunately, no one thought of that, so here we are with a really neat Mickey Mouse Fantasia Sorcerer Phunny KidRobot plush! He’s not an actual robot (although the larger version shakes), but that’s okay with me. I ‘d love to eventually have every single different Sorcerer’s Apprentice plush that’s been made.
