aright fuck it this kept going in my head and flooding replies feels rude. in response to the following from @rachelorium:
"You do not understand. When I try to read his mind--any of their minds--all I see is a hand. To borrow a phrase from the Flash: No thoughts, head empty. But... there is a hand."
"I don't understand. Why don't you just read their puppetee--"
Batman's gloved hand made no sound despite the speed with which it covered Diana's mouth. "Don't."
Hawkgirl sighed. "Is this another one of those rules? What did you call it last time, the canon? This is getting uncomfortably close to a faith thing for me."
"You could probably get away with calling it that at this point. I grew up with the Muppets." Green Lantern shrugged from his spot by the coffee maker. "Hell, half the planet did. There's rules to the Muppets, and breaking those rules feels... I dunno, kinda like sacrilege. It'd be like telling Bob Ross to stop talking about happy accidents."
The Flash shuddered. "Or asking Mr. Rogers about Vietnam."
"For the last time, Mr. Rogers was not--"
"I can not listen to this argument again, I just wanted to know if they'd be okay giving me autographs. I'm gonna go ask like a normal person."
Hawkgirl snorted. "I've never felt so chastised in my life. The most powerful man on the planet, talking about asking permission from a--a talking frog, calling us strange for not seeing the point."
Diana pinched the bridge of her nose. "Hera help us all. I don't know what's more frightening, the notion that these p--"
The stare was soundless, like everything else Batman did, but it carried like a warning shot nonetheless. Diana rolled her eyes and amended, "The notion that these things can't be controlled even...with the condition they have...or the notion that they might actually be one of the more effective team members the League has ever seen."
"I have similar concerns, but I am still not going to try again. Not the Muppets, and not their--" Another scowl from the corner gave J'onn pause. "--Cohorts. The risk is too great."
"What risk?" Hawkgirl pushed off the countertop to stand, thumping her fist into her open palm. "They're made of cloth and string! I wouldn't even need my mace, I'm pretty sure if I sneezed at them that'd be enough!"
"Okay." Bats raised a brow at her, and in spite of herself, she balked. "Go ahead."
"You're right. It'd be easy for you. It'd be easy for me, even without your strength or your mace or anything else. So go ahead. Go outside and attack Kermit the Frog, Shayera."
The ensuing silence was palpable.
"...John, just give me my damn coffee."
