I delete most of my posts after a month or so to keep my blog manageable and to organize my reblogs. You have my permission to reblog whatever deleted post I made. It wouldn't be on the internet if I wasn't okay with it getting shared.
I have started my own website where I am organizing resources I've made over the years (and also compiling stuff like recipes and recommendations).
I am also now livestreaming a couple times a week, come hang out on Wednesday nights to get something done and Saturday mornings to look at computers and ask tech questions. All streams will involve rambling stories and Tiny Bastard.
Here are some of the major resources I've made and some of my sideblogs in case you're looking for something that I reblogged, plus my answers to the tech questions I get most frequently:
First of all, here's the death book.
Here's the guide on how to write a research paper.
Here's the de-Googling pamphlet.
Guide on how to talk to people (including helpful commentary from others!)
HERE'S THE LINK TO 2025 California Fire Resources.
I'm also uploading this stuff at archive.org now.

There are more but those are the ones that I want to share the most mixed in with the ones that people want to see the most.
2026 Specs for buying a computer
How to make a computer meaningfully faster
Basic computer shit:
Basics of encryption and safe internet traffic.
Protonmail for email
Cryptpad.fr to replace gdocs, LibreOffice if you want a free desktop office suite
Windows security is probably fine for your AV but if you want more or have a Mac use Sophos free edition (if you're using linux there is no helpful advice I can give you, you probably know more than I do about it)
Here's a good resource on piracy (not written by me)
Here's a great post of coding resources by @shinelikethunder
My preferred browser is Firefox with privacybadger, decentraleyes, https everywhere, multi-account containers, ublock origin, and auto tab discard (sleeps inactive tabs to save RAM). I also have the wayback machine extension because archiving is good. Duckduckgo is my default browser in firefox.
Bitwarden for password management (free version is great, but $10 a year also gets you 1GB of encrypted file attachments)
If I have to use a chromium browser for some reason I use Opera
If you need to check if your email or password data has been leaked, the site you can check on is haveibeenpwned.com

Tumblr being the "piss on the poor" reading comprehension site makes sense when you realize that 79% of adults in the US are functionally illiterate. Same goes for Twitter and TikTok.
that's a real high number, sport. where'd you get it?
Okay there are several major buckets that the majority of my job seems to fall into.
CX/Service Delivery/Account Management - this is where i run meetings and create service reports and check performance metrics and do things like build internal adoption surveys for clients or compile software installation reports or put together training resources.
Tech debt/lifecycle management - this is where i keep track of renewable licenses, hardware age, resource utilization, etc, to figure out when one of the 7k-ish pieces of hardware we manage needs to be replaced. This involves quoting and contacting clients, following up on declined quotes (because that becomes tech debt that the client carries) managing the documentation of the 7k-ish devices, reporting on company-wide tech debt, and also involves CX and account management because i have to know the client environments and budgets for about 250-300 clients.
Marketing??? - creating line cards for our products, tracking lead status, creating content for the website or newsletters, creating sales or informational mailing campaigns, creating video and written resources for our clients
Data analysis/extraction and reporting - creating reports and dashboards to track client information, handle ticket triage, provide sales and revenue reporting, etc. Making my feral databases. I've made something like 60 internal and client-facing dashboards, one of these dashboards freed up about a quarter million dollars of billable time each year because i can now do it in two hours whereas it used to take four hours a week each for four of out tier three techs.
Licensing and contract management - I'm the only one who understands Microsoft Licensing and I'm the only one who knows how to do our monthly license reconciliation. In May when I did our license reconciliation I found $8000 a month of unadjusted MRR and *today* i found another $1500 a month we just haven't been billing for no goddamned reason.
I think that's most of it, other than maybe like, CX is sales and contract stuff.
You know, it occurs to me that because I've got three supervisors and am working for a minimum of four departments, it's entirely possible that nobody in the organization knows everything that I'm doing.
Last year when there was a change to our Microsoft reseller tenant there was a problem that stopped us from being able to order licenses and after we had been submitting tickets to the vendor and Microsoft for 6 weeks I did a four hour research binge, identified a privilege escalation bug totally unrelated to the problem that i later reported to Microsoft, and was able to identify the tenant assignment that was causing the sales error and get the problem fixed within 72 hours (by weaponizing my totally-above-board escalated admin privileges).
We were the first reseller that either our vendor or Microsoft had seen with this issue. Microsoft didn't actually know it was *possible* to have this issue and used us to document it.
I put that on an internal ticket for six hours with the description "ms tenant sales issue resolution" and no further details because nobody looks at my time entries so i don't bother spending the time to explain what I'm doing.
Maybe I should see if someone in management wants to shadow me for a couple hours.

i'm sorry it's like you have a whole new job that you've been doing for years everytime i catch one of your posts.
Several of these things have only been my job since April! Including running client meetings and putting together metrics reporting!
Contract and service reviews have only been my job since June!
CRM mailing campaigns and Wordpress site management are like, three tiers down on the skill tree and they've had me doing Zoho campaigns since May and they only found out i can do WordPress shit this week. But I rewrote Gary's website in 2022 and worked with a dev to get it published then managed the site until the company was bought. I guess I also rewrote Gary's site in 2017 and built pages and forms for it for five years before it was totally put under my control.
I've now had four coworkers message me during client meetings to tell me to take a breath and slow down. Unfortunately that is not how it works, I do not control the speed at which words come out of my mouth and this calls into question whether I'm the best person to be running client meetings.
I was not supposed to be running client meetings, I was supposed to be doing research and reporting so the guy running client meetings could tag me in for technical stuff but then we fired that guy.

We've gotten me away from doing any procurement (good) and put me into customer experience but then we fired everybody else who was doing customer experience and I don't really have customer experience experience so I'm winging it and I'm supposed to be marketing and sales but because I'm also doing lifecycle management I don't get commission like an actual salesperson would because it's a core function of my job and I'm supposed to be doing service assessments and contract adjustments but we don't have information about our service agreements in the contract so when I do an assessment there's nothing for me to assess against (for instance: what level of responsiveness have we promised to the client?) and I'm doing data analysis but we aren't investing in a database so I'm just ferally building one on my own and also I'm supposed to be doing content creation and making videos (including scripting, recording, acting in, and editing those videos) to put on our website but we're not putting anything on our website because the website is being redone and we're redoing it as a wordpress site so I can in theory create landing pages and education resources but the site hasn't been relaunched and also they don't know if they want me adding pages and also many people are frustratedly waiting on me to respond to emails and I'm spearheading our AI communication strategy (the strategy for how we talk to our clients about AI which starts with "do you actually need AI or do you need a powershell script?") and I'm also still the primary licensing expert in the organization and "organization" feels like an overly-generous way of describing this mess.
Anyway, I found out that I've got a new boss today. Would love to find out what my job is next.
Look if you want me to write absolutely absurd amounts of detailed text for us to show our clients how to do things they need to do I can 100% do that for you but you have to tell me that's what you want and stop putting me in meetings where I find out that we had a server outage from the client because nobody on the team communicated to me that we had a server outage when I asked if there was anything that needed to be discussed on the monthly customer sat meeting.
I will say, part of my current job is writing the technician's names on the form that says who gets the referral commission because if I can't get it because it's a core part of my role then somebody else sure as shit should be getting that 10% from the company.
Collecting performance metrics and service delivery information about a client for the last month and organizing that into a powerpoint
Running the meeting with that powerpoint, presenting to the executive team at that client and fielding questions about their environment and timelines for hardware replacements
Doing a software installation analysis for that client
Building a UPS upgrade quote for that client
Delivering performance metrics information for another client in their bi-monthly meeting
Finding (or writing???????????) the onboarding/offboarding checklist for that client
Delivering performance metrics information to another client
Prepping a marketing campaign for review tomorrow (generating email text, designing informative flier, writing service descriptions of the VoIP service we offer)
MARKET RESEARCH for that email campaign (checking in with technicians and clients about customer satisfaction with that service)
Verifying that a client is properly billed for a firewall license
Verifying that the firewall license is properly applied to the firewall by the techs
Creating a reporting schedule for total ESXi storage for a client and sharepoint storage for a client and building the documentation for both to be shared with the client
Calling a newly referred client to discuss service availability
Building an AI interest survey for a client interested in implementing AI and talking to the owner about what they're expecting and adjusting expectations as needed
Sourcing a consultant to teach another client how to use the AI they had us implement?
Organizing the AI onboarding documents we have to create a streamlined process
Reach out to clients about quotes sent last month
Create request for procurement department to order approved hardware
Adjust contract pricing for about 1500 items (scattered throughout the week)
Generate a report of client hardware and update the hardware information to reflect lifecycle states
Transfer leads from lead generation platform to CRM for the CEO
Explain what my job is to my new boss, who I found out about today
Okay when I write it all out like that maybe this is insane.
Oh and also updating the two 30+ sheet excel books that are decidedly not databases that are nonetheless acting as databases that I'm the only one who understands and that are probably central to whatever my job(s) is(are).
