and if i said nolan's odyssey starring no greek actors and with no recognizable aspects of greek culture or involvement by greeks, is the direct legacy of white supremacist colonialism that treated ancient greece as not just the pinnacle of ancient culture, but of an artificially created "european" culture, which white western europeans and their settler descendants, as the new pinnacle of culture, were the sole spiritual inheritors of.
^^^ PEOPLE ARE STILL THERE. There's a metro station across the street from the colosseum where i found a hair in my pizza slice. We drove by ruins of an amphitheater next to a motorway in greece once. It's literally just real places where real people live and have lived. It's not mythical perfect lands that once existed. I went to Itacha in 2023 and there was not enough parking space.
It is so ridiculously easy to gain a reputation for being competent by just reading signs.
This is not metaphorical. I mean actual, literal pieces of paper/plastic/metal/whatever explicitly erected to inform the public.
“How did you know this was the right trail?” I read the sign.
“Wow, how did you know what that flower is?” There’s a SIGN.
“How did you know we needed to use the side door?” THERE IS A SIGN POSTED ON THE FRONT DOOR.
Just…why are we having such different experiences of the world? People can read. I KNOW they can read. There’s nothing wrong with their vision.
Just. READ. THE. GOD. DAMN. SIGN.

My dad is Deaf and has been since before he met my mother. He had multiple different devices to monitor my sisters and I growing up- including a noise detector that would vibrate the bed or the couch and say exactly which room the loud noise was being made in. As a child I remember understanding that he could not "hear" me if we weren't looking at each other, and that I had to speak clearly in order for him to understand. He tells me as a toddler I used to ask him to get on my level, put my hands on his face, and ask him if he could understand me- and only once he verified would I say or ask anything. He used to leave me a signed note every day before school when I was in high school, giving me a different blessing and a couple bucks to buy a snack.
But also- hearing children of deaf adults (CODAs) are often more empathetic, more accepting of others' differences and challenges, more emotionally mature and able to read others' body language and visual cues, with experiences more similar to bicultural and bilingual children of the same age, because being raised Deaf while hearing is a look into two very different worlds. Not that I think anyone should need to prove their worth, but the statistics show the exact opposite of these doctors' expectations of Deaf parents. Deaf adults more often than not raise intelligent and well-structured kids that connect more readily with others, there is no additional risk of neglect more than any hearing parent.

2nd place in American Patchwork & Quilting Transparency Quilting Challenge, QuiltCon 2025
this challenge focused on the illusion of transparency in quilting.
So I noticed this was second place in a contest.
So I looked up first place:
This is "Light Me Up" by Lindsey Berres. Closeups here.
Here is the (partial?) gallery of entrants on the QuiltCon website, but the image files are so large that I literally can't load them so have a selection of much lower quality screengrabs from this video tour instead...

Metahuman with super healing powers whose entire job is that once a week they go to a nearby hospital and are put into a medically induced coma for 24 hours while all their organs and blood are harvested, and kept there until they've healed up again.
They get paid a small stipend by the Heroes Council for this, and they live off that.
No crime fighting, no obvious heroics, and they only took a Super Identity because it's technically hero's council policy. Nobody's ever seen them in a cape.
Every so often the Heroes council will release an official report to the public, and there'll be another bunch of news articles wondering how some unknown super calling themselves 'Meat Factory' somehow consistently holds the record for most lives saved across the city.
It is essential to my vision that they are not at all sanctimonious about this.
Like, they regularly act like they're getting away with something. They joke about how they get to earn money in their sleep. They show up to their hospital visits in deliberately ridiculous disguises, on the excuse that they need to 'protect their identity'.
Part of their employment contract is that they get served the same post-operation vanilla ice cream that they normally hand out on the childrens' ward. Also a sticker. Their overnight bag is covered in stickers.
Okay, Meat Factory is awesome and hilarious, but if they're being harvested for and regenerating absolutely everything, may I suggest an alternative super name: Theseus.
hey don't cry. on december 3, 1926, agatha christie went missing for eleven days and because the uk police didn't know what to do they recruited sir arthur conan doyle, creator of master detective sherlock holmes, but all he did was conduct a séance to try and contact her distressed spirit
Her “disappearance” was also greatly exaggerated, she was under a lot of stress from the public and had just caught her first husband cheating on her, so she fucked off to a spa treatment hotel and checked in with a fake name as a “patient” claiming to not remember anything about her past. She kept up the illusion of mystery for most of her life, claiming to not know anything about what happened during that time, but in her twilight years she alluded to the fact that “of course I just ran away for a bit, wouldn’t you want to do the same?”
No no guys uve got it all wrong wasnt she attacked by a giant wasp and then had her memory erased?!
A fugue state has been suggested by at least one recent biography. The fact that Agatha didn't recognize her first husband when he showed up at the spa is cited. But considering first husband had asked for a divorce-and British middle class ladies born in 1890 did NOT divorce-maybe not recognizing him was a British form of "fuck you too".
nothing is more tumblr than having a tumblr sexyman wiki and then warn you to not find some of those men sexy because it's problematic
you all have to check out the rules if this wiki. theyre wild
Generally, you will be warned for breaking the rules a few times before you are banned. The first ban will likely be one week long, the seco
Throwing this one out as a fave. Didnt realize Animal Crossing was porn.
They also have a classification system aped from scp including a tier for character who nobody thinks are sexy. unsexy characters are allowed and if a character actually has sex thats too sexy for the sexman wiki
What on earth
day 6 / ???
this is really interesting in how it frames disability/low spoons/etc as not being a series of internal symptoms, but specifically a situation in which daily tasks increase in complexity. for example i used to be able to wash the dishes normally. but now mental and physical issues combine to make that situation have a lot of prequalifications (do I have time, energy, how long can I do it without being sore the next day) that means many more steps are involved in getting that single physical act of washing a dish to be done.
I’m trying to remember the quote. “On a good day, doing laundry is three steps. On a bad day, the first step is getting out of bed.”

For those who don't know: Ikumi Nakamura is the woman who was senior artist on Bayonetta, and designed the titular character along with Hideki Kamiya. Their greatest moment of bonding was over their insistence that Bayonetta keep her glasses on at all times. Nakamura cannot go to horny jail. She is the warden.
Happy pride month to her and her exclusively
she made a comic about the experience on twitter
happy pride
An Update from back in October I'm surprised wasn't added to this post. lol
I love the face of a woman having the time of her life.
I love the “captain’s log” mechanism in Star Trek as a method for time skips and exposition.
I am, however, devastated that we never got an episode where any captain’s voiceover is strained and slow. very precise about the events they’re describing. While the screen itself is showing the most batshit insane events and making it clear that the captain is trying VERY HARD to keep everyone involved out of a court martial.
its not funny but i do think about it a lot
This made me think about this panel from Calvin and Hobbes:
But unlike the adult in this strip, Calvin’s dad actually APOLOGIZED for yelling at him when he saw how guilty his kid was:
Can you tell I'm obsessed with drawing Stephanie Brown rn?
Okay, Gotham calling Robin, A VIGILANTE, to testify in court is so funny to me. Starting to understand why Bruce made YJ Robin (Tim) never make any public statements of any kind lol
Prosecutor: (doing preliminaries) And how long have you been working in "law enforcement"?
Dick Grayson, behind a mask but clearly barely in his 20s: Twelve years.

You guys have to understand the Batfam dynamic of the 90s. It was amazing.
Bruce: “… >:|”
Tim: *nervous* “heh heh… guys? Guys?”
Dick: “Lmao I could not physically give a shit if I tried”
Exhibit A:
Tim: “Is he.. is he always like this?”
Dick: *joke about Batman’s name*
Exhibit B:
Tim: “Is he.. is he always like this?”
Dick: *joke about vigilante working hours*
Exhibit C:
<Big villain reveal>
Dick: “Aw man :/”
Tim: “…known WHAT?”
Exhibit D:
Tim: *concerned* “…? Nightwing?”
Dick: “>:)”
Exhibit E:
Dick: <is shot> “Dude this lowkey kinda blows”
Dick: <falls from a potentially lethal height> “whoops”
I know I've said it before but every rewatch I do cements this thought further - elijah wood's performance in LOTR is absolutely insane, they really had a character whose name means "wise by experience", hired an 18-year-old to do it, and he delivered so much that not only is it a beautiful and moving role on its own, it's a performance equal to those of the absolute powerhouses he played side by side with like ian holm and ian mckellen. to name just a few
apparently it's not common knowledge that he was 18 at the time (insert that xkcd comic, you know which) but. yeah
"let's task this teenager with the monster assignment of portraying trauma of war in a quiet and subtle way. what can go wrong" and then somehow nothing did. because he killed the role
