Please put on your N95s. The same ones used for covid will filter particulate pollution. I lived in a city with yearly winter pollution levels like this. If you can pay for it, you might as well get an indoor air filter to sleep in.

If you can't afford a proper air purifier or can't find one in stock, these are sometimes cheaper to build:

Make sure you get the best rated furnace filters you can. If getting all those is too expensive, even one of those furnace filters taped tightly to a box fan (to force the air through the filters so it doesn't come in through the cracks) can help pretty substantially in a small room.

I will also say, in addition to this: if you have asthma, TAKE YOUR GODDAMN INHALER IN ADVANCE. Don't assume that minimizing your exposure is going to be enough to prevent problems. Your breathing can become compromised way faster than you are used to when the air is this bad, even if your asthma is usually well controlled. And for anyone who is stuck trying to cope without an inhaler, and can't get ahold of one, remember that caffeine is a weak bronchodilator. It is NOWHERE near as good as the real thing, and should never be used instead of your emergency inhaler if you have any other choice, but it's still better than nothing.

Anyway here is my take:

I think trying to make a movie out of The Odyssey (not the story of Odysseus, but The Odyssey as in the poem) is a bit of a doomed endeavour as the structure of The Odyssey simply does not jive with the structure of the Hollywood movie

I think you COULD make a good movie out of the odyssey but would need to engage w the fact that it's a work which veers back and forth between fantasy and realism; that it's a story told out of chronogical order; and also that it is a Trickster Hero story first and foremost. It is perhaps best done as a comedy but with the occasional shocking swerve into graphic violence.

Here are my opinions:

The Odyssey should be a musical but ☝️only some of the time. When Odysseus is narrating? Musical. Penelope and Telemachus on Ithaca? 🙅‍♀️

Odysseus can break the fourth wall during the parts where he's narrating.

Movie opens with Odysseus inside Charybdis, whirling around and around clinging to a tiny raft and screaming. *Freeze frame* yeah, that's me. You're probably wondering how I got here.

So I do 3D modeling and printing as a hobby, and a few weeks ago I designed wheel guards meant to prevent office chairs from running over cables and clothes... or your pet's tail.

I got the idea from cowcatchers old locomotives used to have.

Anyways, yesterday I uploaded the model to Thingiverse, and just hours after uploading it, the Community Relationship Manager of the whole website left a comment suggesting I enter the model into a competition that's currently being held on the site.

So I did... and now it's in third place not even a day later. First place is $500, but the competition still has a month to go.

Then the Community Manager contacted me again, telling me they want to feature my model in an upcoming design promotion.

Just, what is happening? I mostly made this thing for myself in, like, an hour, and now it's suddenly super popular? This is all a little bit overwhelming 😵‍💫

Other models I worked on for weeks didn't get nearly as popular. I swear, it's impossible to predict what people will like.
