Here's the other thing. Chris is clingy. More than clingy, actually. He starts on his side of the bed, polite and normal, the way a regular person might share a bed, but somewhere in the process of being asleep, he oozes across whatever space might separate them - very important on aforementioned hot nights - and attempts to smother Jake with his bodyweight, which is not insignificant. He's a big dude, and while Jake has filled out in the years since they started sharing a bed, he's still got nothing on the muscle and bulk that is one Chris Redfield, especially when he's asleep and trying to suffocate him with cuddles.

It's a fantastic way to go, as ways to die go in their line of work, but still.

Jake squirms, trying to at least get a little space for himself, but one broad arm grabs him - without even a shift in Chris' deep breathing - and drags him back beneath his chest. Chris nuzzles the back of his neck, and Jake can feel his smile. "Love you," he mumbles, without ever waking up, and Jake melts underneath him. Fine. Heatwave or not, there's nowhere else he wants to be right now than safely wrapped up in the warmth of Chris' arms.
