obviously there’s nothing morally wrong with the projectionist lens through which a large portion of fandom operates but it does get kind of tiring to constantly feel like. hey guys what if we stopped talking about ourselves and instead talked about the character

and of course a degree of projectionism can be a very useful lens in certain circumstances, such as having unique insight into a character who shares certain aspects of your own experiences. but at the end of the day you still gotta recognize that there are going to be aspects of them that diverge from yourself

Something I can’t help observing about our former colonizer countries as a Latina is how some of them still root for our failure. They can’t pillage our land anymore, so they want to pillage our psyche. They can’t steal our gold, silver, or jewels anymore, but they still want our shine. what if sometimes batman imagines just shooting nightwing in the head a second time and then when his memory gets all fucked up again and he forgets who he is, bruce takes the Overboard route and convinces dick that he still lives in the manor with him and never moved away and they hang out all the time like best friends the way they used to and dick doesn’t know what a nightwing is and doesn’t get himself almost killed all the time and instead he’s a regular guy who goes to work every day and is a regular part of society and

“why would he imagine this??” because he’s batman and he can’t say ‘hey i wish you got to experience a normal life as a normal guy and im sorry’

they should make another one of those comics where bruce wayne is a grizzled old man who retired from batman long ago and a plucky new preteen shows up wanting to be the next robin and bring the legend of batman back to life or whatever. and dick grayson shows up at some point as is wont to happen and she's a middle aged woman
