This is one of my favorite moments, too.  And I am so glad that it was Mace Windu who had this moment, this moment of the Jedi trying to talk the battle droids out of battle, to serve a better purpose. This isn’t the beginning of the war, this is three years in, against machines that are programmed and all reason should say this is a waste of a Jedi Master’s breath.  And maybe it is. But Mace Windu offers it anyway. For any droid that doesn’t want to fight, that wants something better, that has to know that this isn’t a fight they can win, he still offers this chance, because the Jedi believe in offering second chances, in that it’s never too late to find a better path. This is why Yoda and Obi-Wan help Anakin over to the other side even after 24 years of being Darth Vader.  This is why they offer solace and empathy to Prosset Dibs, this is why they help Quinlan Vos back to the light when he struggles with the dark. Because the Jedi believe can serve a better purpose always.  And I love that it’s Mace Windu who delivers this offer, because this is who Mace is, but also this is why Mace is the epitome of the Jedi ideals, this is why Mace Windu is one of their shining stars, this is why Mace Windu is such a valuable source of compassion and wisdom to them, this is why Jedi Master Mace Windu is a leader of the Jedi. Because Mace Windu is an example of the best of the Jedi Order.
