Well Ubuntu is a wonderful and free OS you can get to replace it, but in the mean time I usually recommend these two edits to make windows run faster.
ADJUST ADVANCED SETTINGS
search for 'View Advanced System Settings' and click on the control panel view that pops up.
You should be in the Advanced tab, click on the Settings... button.
You will probably see all these turned on. TURN THEM OFF! You will probably want 'Smooth edges of screen fonts' to stay on since the font gets very pixelated without it. I also leave 'Show thumbnails instead of icons' since I personally like seeing image previews in File Explorer.
Your windows will feel much different after turning lots of these off, come back here and make adjustments if needed.

DISABLE WEB SEARCH
This requires what is know as a RegEdit. These directions will only add one Key:Value DWORD pair via the PowerShell terminal. But do know, deleting the wrong thing in Registry Editor can break your computer. We will be creating this Key with PowerShell so it will not delete anything in your Registry but if it makes you uncomfortable then please skip this step!
Windows added a bunch of behind the scene web searches all over the place, when you click the start button, Web Search! when you open file explorer, Web Search! What is it web searching? who knows! but it lags anything that interacts with it, which is everything, Thanks Windows.
You can turn this web search off by making this registry edit.
First search for PowerShell > Open
Once the terminal opens type in:
Set-ItemProperty -Path "HKCU:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search" -Name "BingSearchEnabled" -Value 0
Mine has fancy color coding, yours might not!
This Set-ItemProperty command will create a new Key Item at location "HKCU:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search" inside our Registry, it will call this key "BingSearchEnabled" and set its value to 0 (the zero value turns it off).
Reboot your computer and the new Key will load into your windows and Look At That no more unnecessary web searching happening in the background.

I think part of why I have trouble explaining pain to the doctor is when they ask about the pain scale I always think βWell, if someone threw me down a flight of stairs right now or punched me a few times, it would definitely hurt a lot moreβ so I end up saying a low number. I was reading an article that said that β10β is the most commonly reported number and that is baffling to me. When I woke up from surgery with an 8" incision in my body and I could hardly even speak, I was in the most horrific pain of my life but I said β6β because I thought βWell, if you hit me in the stomach, it would be worse.β
I searched and searched for the post this graphic was from, and the OP deactivated, but I kept the graphic, because my BFF does the same thing, uses her imagination to come up with the worst pain she can imagine and pegs herΒ β10β³ there, and so is like, well, Iβm conscious, so this must be a 5, and then the doctors donβt take her seriously. (And she then does things like driving herself to the hospital while in the process of giving birth. Probably should have called an ambulance for that one!)

7 - I am in pain all the time. It keeps me from doing most activities.

Itβs also really important to get this kind of scale to people who have chronic pain, because chronic pain drastically lowers your perception of howΒ βbadβ any kind of pain actually is, and yet something like this pain scale is extremely user friendly.Β
For example, if someone asked me how much pain Iβm in at any given time, Iβd say hardly any, and yet Iβm apparently at a chronic 2.5, and it only goes up from there depending on the day.Β
Thereβs also a similarly usefulΒ βFatigue Scaleβ
I havenβt been below a 5 on this scale for 4 yearsΒ

BE CAREFUL ON ICE
YES, EVEN IF YOU ARE ONLY WALKING. When a fresh wave of ice comes in, 90% of my mom's ER isn't car accidents, it's people w/trauma from falling on their way to the car.
LOOK FOR ICE. Mostly in the morning, but Be Looking. Ice manifests suddenly in strange places.
You cannot get friction on an unbroken icy slope. No power of will or special stance will change this. Either wear treads to dig into the ice, or find a non-icy path.
Never be afraid to drop on your butt and scooch across ice. If you aren't sure if you can safely cross an ice patch or get down off a icey hill, then get on your butt. It is 10000% safer to help you not slip, and also if you slip. Yes you might look silly, looking silly is better than head trauma.
Penguin shuffle if needed. Little baby steps keeping your center of gravity centered. This only works if you aren't on a slop. If you are on a slope, see the above.
Walk on the grass. I cannot stress this enough. If the sidewalks aren't cleared or you're unsure, any grassy section nearby will be a safe alternative. Even if it means walking on someone's lawn.
Handrails are your friends, use them please.

I'm really gonna need people who claim to care about gender inclusion on sports to stop saying "trans people" or "trans kids" when they mean trans women and girls.
Just for example before anyone gets annoying about this:
These are direct from the WKF (world karate federation) "Transgender Rules" document.
Here are there requirements for trans men to compete in men's divisions:
Obviously annoying but basically they're asking for a doctor's note that says go for it and that's it.
In contrast, these are the rules for trans women:
(yes it spans 2 pages) They are demanding that any trans woman who ever wants to compete at any level have transitioned hormonally before the age of TWELVE. They're looking for invasive information about someone's puberty stages (which if any girl was able to transition that young, what are the odds she can prove it??). They require regular testosterone testing and require you to be at a level under that of some cis women FOR YOUR ENTIRE LIFE. This policy clearly is designed to make sure that trans women will never be able to compete in women's divisions; these standards are simply unrealistic and absurd. And I didn't even include all the rhetorical justifications earlier in the document about all the biological advantages "males" supposedly have.
By the way, this doesn't only apply to the sparring competition (which is "skin contact" not full contact fighting), but also to the kata (forms) competition which is entirely non-contact and truly has no need to be gender divided in the first place. And this isn't even a professional leagueβit's all amateur except for an handful of people with sponsorships. It's not even an Olympic sport except for once in 2021.
If you truly cannot see a disparity here or you feel like justifying this in any possible way then you are not an ally to trans women and you don't actually believe in gender inclusive sports. This is what structural transmisogyny looks like, and this is why we need to be fighting specifically for trans women and girls and not just "trans people" generally.
