tape
Magnetic tape and its not even close. Have you heard a big magnetic tape drive come to life? heard its driver motors slowly spin up to speed, then the ingress reel pull down a little bit of tape into the vacuum columns, and start seeking to the desired datablock? The two reels in a delicate dance, winding or unwinding sections of the tape while the tape head carefully reads through every single byte one by one looking for a section header. Sure they're big and kinda bulky, and their capacity is peanuts compared to modern storage, but they had SOUL. these boxes are a staple of the background dressing of any early 90s lab in a movie, be it a computery one or a chemical one, there was always a tape drive nearby. Flash drives BEG to have even a fraction of the charm that tape has.
its such a shame that the only two examples of people uploaded to tape drive computers (atleast ones i remember) are Arnim Zola, a nazi scientist from a marvel movie, and Cassandra from the german netflix Cassandra.
Have you any conception of how awesome it would be to have a robot girl character thats actually being remotely driven from an underground server farm where her brain is stored on megameters of magnetic tape? that would be so cool, if a little volatile and not at all practical, but so cool!
i also choose this guys underground reel-to-reel wife
you misunderstand I'M the underground reel-to-reel wife! im the result of a horrible government lab experiment by some deprived weirdo, and saved by my beautiful human wife thats trying to store me to an SSD to stop me from shedding my tape-brains out
you have wonderful ideas
