i've been phasing the phrase 'google it' out of my vocabulary and going back to 'look it up'. fuck you youve lost your generic trademark privileges
Devastated that unfortunately out of the alternative corporate verbs "Google it" is kinda the best option

we gotta get back to torrent distribution, i just watched someone eat eight grand in bandwidth charges because they ran a direct-download piracy site with local file hosting through cloudflare. torrents were invented literally for this exact reason
torrents work like this
i have a file or folder on my pc that i want to share with other people. let's call it gayshit.mp3
unfortunately gayshit.mp3 is 750mb and im not paying for discord nitro so i need another way to send it
i put it into qbittorrent and it makes a torrent file. this is essentially a very small file that points to gayshit.mp3 so other computers can find it. kinda like a treasure map
i send this tiny file to my friend, who loads it into qbittorrent. their computer takes a moment to find mine over the vast expanse of cyberspace and then (as long as my pc is running and the file is still where it should be), it gets copied from my hard drive to theirs
this is the cool part: if somebody else loads that tiny file, they can download it from both of us. if i'm offline but my friend is on, the third person can still get it. this also means that if two people have separate halves of the file, they can download the other half from each other. as long as some combination of people have the pieces between them, they can all have the whole thing.
crucially this does not require a server!!! you can just upload the file to a few people and as long as they keep it, it's still accessible. as long as somebody, somewhere is still connected, it's available forever. the only way it goes away is if everybody disconnects from it.
please learn to torrent
An expert guide to get started using torrentsTorrents are one of the most popular forms of file sharing on the internet, accounting for over
always use qbittorrent, do not use bittorrent or utorrent.
Can vouch for qbittorrent, I was a uTorrent guy for a long time (mostly because I just was too lazy to switch) but yeah the ads and the jank interface and the most recent change to a PWA instead of dedicated local client (which has an even jankier interface than it used to) finally got on my nerves.
Give it a shot, and torrent! Yes direct streaming for piracy is much better than it used to be but I like having my files!
My immediate first thought was "extreme sexual energy".
I've been doing IT for too long
I like Linux.
The Linux users on this site will reblog anything that's about Linux.
Yes
Correct

Yep

If you keep windows 11 on me I’ll shoot you in the head
I was born to use Linux, do you want to take away my birthright, huh? DO YOU!?
Certified Anti-Microsoft post
hi friends! that's 1051 of us that hate microsoft! Go us!
Hey! You've reposted one of my Microsoft memes before. I just wanted to add to the Linux asks. I've switched to Bazzite for my home desktop and it's been an absolute boon. Libre office helps a lot with work projects, I've gotten mullvad to work via the terminal but there are other gr8 available vpns, and the customization has been a godsend. Similarly, at least in my experiences, many of my games run better on Bazzite, especially Cyberpunk, Warframe, and Elden ring. đź©·
I really want to try Bazzite, just at the moment working through getting a dual boot running on my main desktop is really hard since I have literally no time (but I really really wanna see their NVIDIA support since that's been the historical biggest issues with gaming on Linux)
I also wanna know more about the non-gaming side of Bazzite, I know the OS tends towards the more locked down side (at least compared to other distros) and I just am curious about the feel for just using it as a daily driver.
youve turned another, installed LMDE on my laptop earlier today and I'm never going back. psa to everyone, if you wanna try Linux but youre scared you'll fuck something up, I promise if my dumb ass found it easy you'll have no problem lol
so happy to hear it!
and yes! once the OS is installed, it's easier than you'd believe. Linux (contrary to the general belief from non-tech-people) is really only as difficult as you make it. If all you need is a daily driver for the internet, then Linux is leagues ahead of where the other two legacy OSes are.
(also what ChromeOS is trying to be branded as, but boy howdy does interacting with Google feel like sticking your hands into the hyena cage)
Rare France win: Mandatory switching from Windows to Linux on all government devices by late 2026
Let's fuckin go!
(I reblogged the microsoft funeral from france as well, very French, very touching, very required. and if anyone can find the funerary march comprised of Windows error sounds that went along with the event i will be forever in your debt.)

This happened a while ago (and paint works again now) and i do admit i was being quite dramatic but i thought you'd get a kick out of it (love ur blog btw)
every day I am shown new ways to not only lower the bar, but to buy a shovel to dig a hole to put the bar inside of.
I don't use a lot of paint but I'm glad that I missed this since i would have been on the news.
i’m fucking. Stuck with windows. Because my school makes us use it. But I am with you in spirit
not just windows, but turbolocked enterprise windows I'd bet.
But hey, it's not ChromeOS, evil negative linux, at least!
