I’m reading a gothic horror novel and the author put a note that was essentially a TW at the beginning that basically said “yes, this book contains depictions of problematic sexist and ableist behavior. That is because I’m writing in a book is set in the 1800s.” YEAH EXACTLY.

One really fun thing about modern gothic horror set in the past is that there are bits of horror that the modern audience sees that a protagonist cannot. A dirty cut put into the mouth prior to germ theory, a transfusion set in an era before blood typing, use of therapies that in the modern world we know harm a patient, etc.

i highly recommend developing an intense interest in some natural phenomenon or creature such as bugs or stars or mushrooms. you will be delighted every time you go outside

one time at boarding school the woman from the office was taking some prospective-customer parents on a tour and came into our classroom and asked me in particular what i thought of the school. and i said i more or less liked it but also that i know she picked me because im literally the only one here who likes it. so i'd like to give the floor to the other students. and everyone started shouting about how terrible a place it is.

Remember when Xbox was going to basically ban used games for the xbox one, and Playstation made fun of them with that video titled "how to share games on Playstation" and it was just one guy handing another a game disk? And now Playstation is getting rid of physical disks entirely

i hate eating food in the summer. why are you making me do this. i should be able to pull a reverse bear gambit where i eat a lot of nutrients all winter and fall and spring and then i sleep all summer. alternately if it's hot outside i should be able to survive comfortably by eating fruit and lettuces and perhaps sometimes ice cream. there should be NO physical consequences for doing this when it's above, like, 65F or 18C.

i am not a psychiatrist but i do find it really weird how autism checklists are so often focused on "outward" signs of autism rather than what is going on internally. i don't know how to explain it but "do you make eye contact with other people" feels like a much less relevant question than "how does it feel when you have to make eye contact with other people?"

I know that a lot of people like them but I personally find survival mechanics in video games to just be annoying. I have to keep track of how hungry I am and it doesn’t even taste good? How dare you.
