The more I hear people "reject" redemption arcs, the more... genuinely uncomfortable I get? Sometimes people hurt you and you want to stay angry at them and that's a completely human response but "If you've hurt someone else, there is no way to make things better and you need to die" is actually a horrifying opinion for people to say so casually.
My biggest issue with these people is, once you decide that hurting people is a capital crime which can never be atoned, you start getting REAL invested in refuting anyone who says you hurt them. You start believing they CAN'T be right. You think "i dont deserve to die, and people who hurt people deserve to die, so I must have never hurt anyone ever and anyone who says I have is lying because they want me dead". And that only ends with you as the villain.
And it makes no sense when the alternative is just accepting that harm is a spectrum, and the only people who are iredeemable are the ones who died before they could offer reparation and restitution. I have harmed people. I learned. I apologized. Im attempting to do better. I might fail. If I do, I will do what is in my power to atone.
