I bought an absolutely wild cyberpunk book today.
Romance novel idea:
Alex Martin and Bri Silver meet at [legally distinct from Disney] idol camp as teenagers, form a strong bond. Not-Disney is pushing Alex as the next "sensitive boy" teen heartthrob, and Bri is the lead singer of a girl group from a TV show. Nothing quite happens between them because Alex has Some Kind Of Deep Sadness.
Flash forward ten years. Bri's career is imploding -- Not-Disney label dropped her because her latest solo album Starlit flopped (critics called it "stiff" and "insincere") and she's being overshadowed by a bandmate (and just why does she feel so betrayed by a platonic former friend?). Also she feels absolutely no spark for the actor boyfriend she just dumped, as much as her PR manager likes the guy image-wise.
Bri goes to a mixer for an indie label that she's considering signing with and meets Lex -- who is still sensitive, but definitely no longer a boy. Ze disappeared off the map after zir debut deadname album and started releasing experimental queer electropop under the name Lexentrix. Zir latest EP, Subcutaneous, has gotten a lot of buzz from the queer press online (and a pretty sizable transfem cult following -- not a surprise given the lyrics, and the estradiol valerate vial styled like an atom bomb schematic on the cover.)
They rekindle their friendship cautiously -- Lex wants to help Bri find a more authentic voice out from under not-Disney's thumb, but ze is nervous about getting involved in that world again, even tangentially, and getting tangled up with a straight cis pop idol (even one on the outs) is just a bad idea. Bri is captivated by how much Lex has grown into zirself, but she's still straight (right? surely.), and the panopticon of fame still has its hooks in her.
Thinking about this one again. This came from two inspirations: one, the career of Teddy Geiger obviously inspired Lex. (Although she makes lo-fi rock now, not experimental synthpop, so there's definitely a dash of SOPHIE in there too. RIP.)
Bri, on the other hand, was inspired by Shanspeare's phenomenal Gaylor video:
Taylor Swift is obviously not actually queer. And also, is pretty objectively an unpleasant person. But Bri is based on the perception that some Gaylors have of her -- what if that fictitious Taylor Swift was a real person? What if the queer angst that Gaylors project onto Taylor formed a character?
I think, if I was going to make this maximally self indulgent, Bri would embrace some kind of gender fuckery over the course of it. I'm a sucker for a trans mentorship story -- what if Lex inspired Bri to realize they're nonbinary?

Guy who has to one-up everything: yeah, well, I had couscouscous for dinner last night
Oh, you had a nice piece of seared Ahi Tuna for dinner? Well, I had some Ahi Threena, but, you know it’s whatever…
Ahi Threena is okay but it's no mahi-mahi-mahi-mahi.
a squirrel or perhaps a cardinal posted this
How about you mind your own damn business
@21st-century-minutiae
The first post depicts what would be considered an excessive amount of sunflower seeds. Sunflower seeds are a common (usually salted) snack in the early twenty-first century. Their consumption is not notable. What is notable is the sheer mass presented in the photo. Salted seeds store well, so there is little reason why an individual could not have an "eight month supply", and if they truly consume a larger than normal amount and eat it daily, this supply could be a reasonable size for a single person over the course of most of a year. But humans are bad at estimating volume and do not generally encounter long term supplies of sunflower seeds (usually, they are bought and consumed as desired on a week to week basis, alongside other snacks). So the general response would be to marvel at the sheer side.
The first response humorously links the behaviors of stockpiling seeds to the behavior of rodents and small birds, animals both known for caching large supplies of seeds to eat. Cardinals are not a caching species, per se, compared to other types of birds like Chickadees, but they are known to eat seeds in their diets.
The final response adds to the joke with a humorous visual. Cardinal in the early twenty-first century, can refer to small birds or high ranking officials in the Catholic church. The first is known for their red plumage, the second for their distinctive red garb unique to their specific rank.
The image depicts a squirrel in what is clearly the uniform of a Catholic Cardinal: a Squirrel who is a Cardinal. The implication of the image is that this squirrel cardinal is defensively replying to the second poster, humorously declaring that the accusation is spot on.
People in the early twenty-first century would have the context to understand all this, recognizing squirrels, the bird cardinals, the Cardinal uniform, and the concept of caching seeds.
Small correction: that's not a cache of seeds, that's eight months worth of spat-out sunflower hulls.

Some of the steampunk’d Portal designs I cleaned up for my panel at Steamcon yesterday!
I have lots of thoughts on how to effectively reinterpret a character through another cultural lens- steampunk, post-apocalyptic, superhero, what have you- but a lot of it revolves around maintaining a costume’s character, functionality, and aesthetic. I’m sure I can ramble on about that at some point when I’m not recovering from con crud. :)

double teamed by the NanoFate 🥺 combo... well, at least she didn't get beamed to submission this time
n-nine hours??
Equal but opposite energy:
So I do 3D modeling and printing as a hobby, and a few weeks ago I designed wheel guards meant to prevent office chairs from running over cables and clothes... or your pet's tail.
I got the idea from cowcatchers old locomotives used to have.
Anyways, yesterday I uploaded the model to Thingiverse, and just hours after uploading it, the Community Relationship Manager of the whole website left a comment suggesting I enter the model into a competition that's currently being held on the site.
So I did... and now it's in third place not even a day later. First place is $500, but the competition still has a month to go.
Then the Community Manager contacted me again, telling me they want to feature my model in an upcoming design promotion.
Just, what is happening? I mostly made this thing for myself in, like, an hour, and now it's suddenly super popular? This is all a little bit overwhelming 😵💫
Other models I worked on for weeks didn't get nearly as popular. I swear, it's impossible to predict what people will like.
Anyways, if you want to print the wheel guards yourself, you can get the model here or here.
I also made a quiet version you can stick furniture felt pads on.
People love simple, extremely practical things. I hope you win!

She's being so big and brave.
It sucks there seems to be a concerted effort to distance the transfem and transmasc communities from each other. If it weren’t for trans women, I probably wouldn’t have realized I was trans until much later in life.
The cis women in my life were so miserable in their womanhood, I thought that misery was normal. Seeing trans women actually love and fight to be seen as women made me question my own misery
