 people only say Nebraska is their favorite Springsteen album because they’re too afraid to listen to/give value to the saxophone and the piano and big bombastic, dramatic music and emotions and honestly when it comes down to it, it’s joy. People are scared of feeling joy in general but especially through art. like yes, Nebraska is very dark and raw and I guess it’s easier for your ears to listen to an acoustic guitar and a voice but it’s like at the end of the day people are afraid to confront and appreciate the fact that as an artist, Springsteen is all about joy and liberation from the constraints that you put on yourself and the constraints that your environment and society at large puts on you. and I think it’s just a sad part of whatever is going on in the world where people feel guilty if they allow themselves to break free from that. Even in the smallest ways. Like it’s bad juju to feel joy. It’s uncool to express any positive feelings in your art (besides like having a crush). I feel the majority of Bruce’s music is about having fun and making the lemonade with your lemons. Why doesn’t anyone care? Don’t even get me started on the fucking I’m on fire craze. That song is not about wanting to fuck so bad you wanna die. It’s about lust and longing and and vulnerability. Get it together people.
