For those of us who aren’t lawyers or well-versed in law generally, can someone clarify what kind of document, by name, people should be drafting with their lawyers? Is it a type of letter, or is there a name for this classification of document? I’m aware that it probably varies by US state, but a lot of people are likely feeling extremely lost right now and don’t know where to start on this. I definitely don’t. I live in a state that isn’t likely to nullify existing marriages or prevent new ones from taking place, but who knows what they’re going to try at the national level and enforce from the top down.

Add me to the list of people who used to believe this… until I actually started talking to people in other countries. I’ll still never not be impressed by my ex making a doctor’s appointment online (at like 4pm) and being seen the next day… yet, we’re told they have to wait for weeks for an appointment. That’s a big lie. I can’t get an appointment the next day in America. Can’t think of a time I ever have, tbh. Maybe two or three days later, but never the next day.

Yeah I mean honestly as a chronically ill Canadian, I think I would simply be dead by now if I didn’t live in Canada. My mother was disabled, and we grew up very poor, but I knew if I got sick I would see a doctor. The only time we have to wait weeks is when we have a non emergency issue that needs to been seen by a specialist as there simply aren’t enough doctors with specialization and those with immediate life threatening issues take priority! And I’m okay with that! I’m okay waiting 2 weeks for my heart ultrasound if it means the doctor is saving someone’s life!

Waiting two weeks for a specialist may sound bad, but here in the United States, I have had to wait two months for an appointment with a specialist, so Canada would still be a huge improvement even without cost as a factor.

US resident here. A few years ago I was sick with some mystery virus and my asthma as out of control. I was standing at the nurses station, wheezing and gasping for breath after walking downhill from the closest parking spot and they told me I couldn't see a pulmonologist for 4 months. I had already seen multiple doctors over a few months. First one barely looked at my and gave me antibiotics. Second took a chest x ray, shrugged, gave me antibiotics and told me to see my primary doctor. Third was my primary who told me to just keep doing what I was doing and wait it out (after I told get I was using someone else's inhaler because I didn't have one) after months of sleeping upright because being flat felt like I was drowning, and not being able to do anything, I switched doctors. Luckily they had the set up to test my lungs right away and get me different meds. Thank god for that one kind and helpful doctor. I felt like I was going to die while surrounded by doctors who just told me to get over it.
