Itâs really a no-brainer
girls this is important as fuck
I will never not reblog this. Nothing is more important than this. Remember it always.Â
this needs to be signal boosted for all to see.
This goes for lgbtqia relationships too kids.
leave while you still see the early red flags, before it becomes really dangerous.
What Are the âWarning Signsâ of an Abuser?
Red flags and warning signs of an abuser include but are not limited to:
Extreme jealousy
Possessiveness
Unpredictability
A bad temper
Cruelty to animals
Verbal abuse
Extremely controlling behavior
Antiquated beliefs about roles of women and men in relationships
Forced sex or disregard of their partnerâs unwillingness to have sex
Sabotage of birth control methods or refusal to honor agreed upon methods
Blaming the victim for anything bad that happens
Sabotage or obstruction of the victimâs ability to work or attend school
Controls all the finances
Abuse of other family members, children or pets
Accusations of the victim flirting with others or having an affair
Control of what the victim wears and how they act
Demeaning the victim either privately or publicly
Embarrassment or humiliation of the victim in front of others
Harassment of the victim at work
What Traits Do Abusers Have in Common?
There is no one typical, detectable personality of an abuser. However, they do often display common characteristics.
An abuser often denies the existence or minimizes the seriousness of the violence and its effect on the victim and other family members.
An abuser objectifies the victim and often sees them as their property or sexual objects.
An abuser has low self-esteem and feels powerless and ineffective in the world. He or she may appear successful, but internally, they feel inadequate.
An abuser externalizes the causes of their behavior. They blame their violence on circumstances such as stress, their partnerâs behavior, a âbad day,â on alcohol, drugs, or other factors.
An abuser may be pleasant and charming between periods of violence and is often seen as a ânice personâ to others outside the relationship.

THIS ONE FUCKING WORKS. REBLOG IT.
Okay I reblogged and got into the entrepreneurship program I wanted. This WORKS
Reblogging for some added help for the coming months
literally sitting here hysterically laughing and close to tears because the UK government missed over 16,000 covid 19 cases in the past week and therefore failed to trace them or publicize correct infection statistics BECAUSE THEY WERE USING EXCEL TO KEEP TRACK OF THEM AND THE SPREADSHEET RAN OUT OF COLUMNS
every week there's another news item that immediately tops the list of real life events that sound like an overwrought politics SNL sketch and every week all i can do is laugh because otherwise i'd be resorting to arson
this year is a cosmic joke and i am absolutely terrified of the punchline
i'm sorry i'm not done they have spent MONTHS now gassing up their ~incredible world beating test & trace system~ that they spent 12 BILLION POUNDS ON!!!! and it apparently consists entirely of a single fucking microsoft excel spreadsheet i can't fucking take this anymore i want off mr. johnson's wild ride
Wait THAT'S why those numbers were missed? Because of an EXCEL FILE?
YOU'RE TELLING ME THAT OUR ENTIRE PLAN FOR THE NEXT SIX MONTHS HINGES ON A FILE THAT I COULD HAVE BUILT?
Bloody hell, I thought it was something to do with server access and security, not a bloody excel file.
I'm sorry, they tried to use EXCEL? I'm so embarrassed for them
Oh, it gets dumber. Because thereâs actually nothing wrong with entering the date into an excel sheet (it can feed info into various programs that analyze it, and is easy to use for newly hired admin staff who need minimal training to input the data into a usable format fast). BUT the thing is, the version of Excel they were using is 13 years out of date. Because the garbage firm the government hired -- who has been selling pandemic management contracts to their buddiesâ firms instead of to companies with any fucking competency whatsoever -- hasnât bothered to update their Microsoft Office software for over a whole ass decade. A WHOLE DECADE. Once again, we get fucked over because the people running the government are using their positions to fucking LEGALLY funnel money into private companies for their personal benefit.
oh but itâs worse than that!!! they were RECEIVING the data as csv files (good, sensible) and then COLLATING them INTO an Excel file (garbage, for this purpose!)!!!!!!!
my wife woke me up at 5.30am to tell me about this and I didnât even yell at her I was so busy being outragedÂ
I spent a portion of yesterday just screaming in allcaps about how you add new records as mfing ROWS not COLUMNS. I mean we're not even going to discuss the part where they need a database manager and a SQL database. I'm just saying don't use Excel if you don't know how to use Excel.
This entire story just keeps getting more amazing. Like, first it was just that they were using Excel, then itâs that they were using out of date Excel, THEN it was that they were getting GOOD data and then DELIBERATELY CONVERTING IT INTO BAD DATA. And ALL because of NEPOTISM.Â
Like, you guys remember my story about my boss who wanted to be able to push a button and convert 500,000 database records into an excel spreadsheet? This is exactly that level of "does not understand how data OR data management worksâ.Â

Iâve been teaching Kitten Kindergarten classes for a few months and itâs been a super interesting process. Kitten behavior is so different from puppy behavior, so I had to play around with the class structure quite a bit to find something that works. Each class we work on socialization to new people, animals, stimuli and places, introduce a behavior to train, and walk the owners through cooperative care strategies.
Thanks to the classes, Bebe has learned bite/claw inhibition, Porky has learned to love his carrier and car rides, Furiosa sleeps through the night, and Blossom (foster kitten) found a forever home. And of course everyone learned targeting! I really hope these kinds of classes become more common, since early training and socialization can prevent so many behavior problems and keep cats out of shelters. Every time I hear someone tell me cats are untrainable I roll my eyes up into outer space.
Please write a guide or something, or link me one if you have cause Iâd like to learn
So I actually do have a guide I made for this class! Itâs simple but hopefully has some useful info. The file labeled âprintable pamphletâ is formatted so you can print 2 sided sheets and fold/staple them like a little book. Hereâs a Dropbox link to the files because I think this information should be free and accessible to whoever wants it:

Pro tip: insulting your work makes it really awkward for someone to compliment it. Even if they really like it, they'll be embarrassed to say so because you'll probably think they're an idiot. They'll worry that they only like it because they can't see the problems with it- and they can't see the problems because of some kind of ignorance on their part.
Insulting your work ends up insulting the audience who loves your work. Be kind to yourself so that you can be kind to them â€
I understand the urge to insult your own work or to comment that you're not good at X, Y, and Z. It's a self-defense response or nervous tick. That if you point out your own faults first then whatever negative comments you get lose their edge because hey you warned them. Reader beware and all that.
So, there's really only a few responses a reader can have when reading an author's negative statement about their own work. One, if it is at that start of a a work, they take it a face value and do not read. Two, it subconsciously primes the reader to notice that mistake pointed out by the author more than usually would. Three, the reader does not care and/or is now prepared to assure you that you're a good writer. Four, the reader now feels self-conscious if they enjoyed your work because if you think it is bad what does it say about them if they enjoyed it.
In most of these cases, in writing that comment, you've already implicitly decided for the reader how they should read the work - to view it in the light of something bad. Isn't that awfully convenient to the awful voice in your head? To help it color the world in a unflattering light?
Quitting a habit like this cold turkey can be very hard. Instead of adding that negative comment you can reframe it into something more positive. "I can't write smut" rephrased as "I'm experimenting with smut". "Bad attempt at humor" can just be "attempting humor". Because working on something new or you're not confident in is an admirable quality! This still gives your audience an idea that the contents isn't as polished as you liked without punching yourself down.
THIS IS SUCH IMPORTANT INFORMATION! Do not say negative things about your work! Donât do it!Â
A guy at church once told me, after Iâd set a plate of cookies down on a table and said, âI used too much salt and the chocolate is a little bitter,â âWhy do you always insult your baking? You just make me afraid to eat it, even though your baking is always great. Set the cookies down and let me make up my own mind.â
So, set your cookies down and let your readers make up their own minds. If you truly have concerns about your writing, find a beta! Raise those issues with your beta and have an open and honest conversation with them first, and then release your work into the world. But otherwise, do as thewickling suggested, and rephrase your comments, or simply donât say anything negative at all! Probably 99% of the time, literally no one is going to notice the thing you noticed, because they donât see that perfect picture in your head you think you failed to create on paper. They see the amazing thing you did create and love it dearly. Â
An improv rule: never critique your performance in the same venue that you performed it. This is good advice for a lot of reasons: you don't insult your work where the audience members hanging out afterwards can hear, the act of leaving a space 'closes' a performance so now it's well and truly done vs. potentially bleeding the performance from the stage to the backstage or the sidewalk out front and making things ambiguous in everyone's minds, having to go to a Dennys or something gives you time to decompress and reflect on the whole performance rather than just the beats you didn't hit or the opportunities you didn't take, etc.
Insulting your writing is critiquing your performance before it's even started, in the reader/audiences view.
Hard but good advice.
I used to make negative comments about my own work, but now Iâm actively working on not doing that. I know a lot of other people are also struggling with being positive about their own art or writing.
What helped me is by adding neutral comments that pass no judgement; for example when showing an artwork to a friend:Â âThis is the first time I worked with paints.â Or give random info like:Â âWhile writing this chapter I did some research into this kind of topic. I learnt some interesting stuff.â
Itâs so much more pleasant to have a conversation about art and writing when you arenât in a negative state of mind.
The thing thatâs helped me most in avoiding self-disparagement is the realization that whatever Iâm being disparaging about may also apply to the person Iâm talking to (at least in their minds if not in fact), or to someone who will see my words. If I call myself geeky or dorky for liking to play around in Excel or going to rock & mineral expos or writing fanfiction, how will that sound to someone listening who shares those interests? If I say my writing isnât worth posting or my artwork is ugly or my cooking is nothing special, how will that make someone feel who is newer to those things and might see me as a role model for their dawning creativity? By disparaging myself, Iâve hurt them, when instead I could be a mentor or squee over my favorite things with a new friend. Itâs a heck of a hard habit to unlearn, and a constant work in progress. But I grew up learning that it was never okay to hurt others. Myself, yeah, sure, that didnât matter. But not others. So if I canât be kind to myself for my own sake, maybe I can do it for others.
