Better The Devil You Know
Better the devil you know than the devil you don’t.
Your brain would rather keep you in familiar pain than risk unfamiliar power.
And that’s not weakness.
Not at all.
That’s wiring.
The nervous system doesn’t prioritize happiness.
It prioritizes predictability.
Familiar rejection feels safer than unfamiliar love.
Familiar struggle feels safer than unfamiliar success.
Familiar identity feels safer than unfamiliar expansion.
Why?
Because your brain is a pattern-recognition machine.
It builds models of reality based on repetition.
And once a model feels stable, it defends it.
Even if it hurts you.
Even if it limits you.
Even if it keeps you small.
The known feels manageable.
The unknown? Threatening.
New power means new responsibility.
New identity means new behavior.
New behavior means uncertainty.
Uncertainty means risk.
And the brain reads risk as danger.
So when you try to shift your identity, manifest “bigger” things, step into the unfamiliar—resistance shows up.
Not because it’s impossible.
Because it’s unfamiliar.
You say you want confidence.
But your body knows insecurity.
You say you want abundance.
But your nervous system is calibrated to scarcity.
You say you want a new life.
But your identity is anchored to the old one.
So what happens?
You sabotage.
You procrastinate.
You spiral.
You doubt.
And then you tell yourself, “See? It doesn’t work.”
It worked perfectly.
Your brain just protected the identity it knows.
This is why techniques don’t fix everything.
You can affirm all day.
Visualize all night.
Enter the void.
Clear the slate.
But if your nervous system still thinks expansion = danger, you snap back to the familiar.
Not because you’re incapable.
Because you’re conditioned.
The solution? Don’t force power. Make it familiar.
Repetition.
Stabilization.
Embodiment.
Let your system see: nothing catastrophic happens when you hold a new identity.
Let it experience safety inside expansion.
Familiarity creates “natural.”
Not magic.
Not a portal.
Not a state.
Repetition rewires.
Identity stabilizes.
Perception follows.
The devil you know only feels safer because you’ve rehearsed it.
Rehearse something else.
At some point, new power stops feeling like a threat.
And starts feeling like you.
the sexiest thing you can do is stimulate my mind
THE SEXIEST.

reading a “there was only one bed fic” and the characters have decided to share the bed as long as they stay on their sides. i’m really glad they figured that whole mess out and am excited to read about them staying on their sides of the bed until morning^-^
i love clicking on somebody’s ao3 profile and seeing the most nonsensical collection of fandoms. like yess let's live a thousand lifetimes
My life improved so much when I started forcing myself to do things: forcing myself to exercise, to cook from scratch; forcing myself to go to the movies or to museums alone, to wear that really cute outfit just to run errands; forcing myself to read a book, to strike up a conversation with a stranger, to ask for a raise.
Once you begin forcing yourself to do the things that you had been too scared or too lazy to do, you feel a sense of accomplishment that gives you momentum to do even more. It gets easier to get out of your comfort zone & to do hard things.

I believe you can be selfish and focused on your own expansion, without disturbing the harmony- Ma'at around you. Without taking out your insecurities and woes on others. Or disturbing their peace, happiness and confidence. You don't have to be a healer, but you don't have to be a monster either lol💖
as much as i get the sentiment behind "make more bad art" there's gotta be a better way of communicating "you don't have to be technically proficient or hold yourself to a specific standard of practice" that doesn't sound as backhanded lol
guys the magic key is to iterate
You make iterations, because you get better by doing them. I teach art and when one of my students gets dejected for 'being bad' I double-check: this is prob the first time you're [sculpting a flower] right? right. Well is the first time you played soccer, or tennis, or a musical instrument, or drove a car, also the best time you ever did? you probably got better by doing it more often.
and ofc it's not magic in the sense that you'll be perfect by next Tuesday, but as a wise person on the internet once said, the time will pass anyway.
the other secret magic part is curiosity. that is, if you're really doing the work because the material and/or subject matter are interesting, the curiosity will help you improve. if you're only doing it for likes or because you think it's where you belong because of external forces, then the intrinsic motivation won't be enough to carry you along the endless iterations.
