There's a moment in Players and Pieces that I missed the first time I watched it but I caught it this time around and it happens right after this exchange:
Weiss: Look, there's no sense in dilly-dallying. Our objective is right in front of us Ruby: She's right. Our mission is to grab an artifact and make it back to the cliffs. (nods to Weiss) There's no point in fighting these things
And then Weiss's sof lil smile when Ruby backs her up
This is probably the first time in years, possibly ever, that someone other than Klein said Weiss was right and meant it

Ok so. I have a headcanon that mind you was born partially out of spite, but also my love for angst yuri... and also probably has no backing in canon. However, NOW I can't stop thinking about it. So.
V9. Ruby already feels like she's being taken for granted. She's been bottling everything up for so long. Sees the bees together. The total of 3 (????) J/une and Weiss moments happen.
The concept of Ruby feeling some type of way about it and then that was *part* of why she crashed out. She wants what BMLBY has , but with Weiss. Weiss and J/une "bonding" ends up feeding into her spiral.
Latest story pitch my brain has offered me is a RWBY heist AU
Where the heist crew consists of... I'd say Ruby, Blake, Yang, and maybe Neo, JNR and Oscar, and/or Maria (old or young, your call). But I'm not sure what roles each one would fill
This particular heist was Ruby's idea, she went to Yang with it, Yang recruited most but not all of the others. The target is something extremely valuable currently held by one Jacques Schnee. They've planned the heist to start during a performance by Jacques Schnee's daughter, the Ice Queen herself, Weiss Schnee
Partway through the heist, several of the heist crew's members - including Ruby - get caught, and are about to be interrogated by the guards when in walks Weiss, fresh off the stage, takes one look at the captured thieves, sends the guards out of the room... and then starts admonishing Ruby for getting caught because "you told me you had this handled!"
Yang, also in the interrogation room: ...
*flashback to the planning stage and Ruby mentioning she has someone on the inside but declining to say who because "you wouldn't believe me"*
Yang: Your someone-on-the-inside... is Weiss Schnee?
And yeah, Weiss helps them escape, their next attempt at the heist is successful, Yang learns that Ruby and Weiss are dating, and maybe the everything they steal from Jacques includes a fancy ring that Ruby gives to Weiss when she meets back up with the heist crew afterwards
