I'm a very big divorce supporter, no fault divorce is one of the top 10 victories of feminism, more people should do it
But part of that is that I view divorce as being a neutral act and not a sign of judgement on either partner

99% of fandom and shipping discourse is people getting mad at other people bc they dont' like how they're playing with their barbie dolls
editing is like taking apart a jigsaw puzzle and realizing half the pieces donât even belong to this picture.
This might be unpopular but Iâm not going to use simpler vocabulary in my writing if itâs out of character for the narrator. If my POV character is a botanist, heâs going to call a plant by its name. If you donât know what it is you can either Google it or move on just knowing itâs a plant of some sort.
I donât like this trend of readers being angry that not everything is 100% understandable for them. I want my characters to be believable as people and sometimes people use words people outside of their field will not understand. Thatâs not a bad thing.
You donât have to understand every word to get the gist of whatâs happening. Iâm not going to slow down an action scene to describe every weapon because someone might not know them by name. They can just assume itâs a weapon because that makes sense in the context of the scene.
Ok, real quick, speaking as a librarian, you absolutely cannot despair about the adult literacy crisis and shame adults for reading fiction books you do not personally care for or think are "challenging" at the same time. It doesn't work with kids, and it doesn't work with adults.
Here's how to increase someone's reading level:
1) Let them read whatever they choose without shame or judgment. Maybe get them talking about it using open-ended, non-leading questions to encourage critical thinking and comprehension.
2) Let them get bored after a while and seek out different books.
3) Repeat.

Do I just use boomer words? :(
If you're not "gen x and older" how many of these words do you know: steward, emperor, patron state, missive, parchment, capital city, and imperial scholar ?
I'm a millenial and I know all/most of these words!
I'm a millenial and I know about half these words!
I'm a millenial and I know none or almost none of these words!
I'm a gen z and I know all/most of these words!
I'm a gen z and I know about half these words!
I'm a gen z and I know none or almost none of these words!
I'm a gen alpha and therefore too young to have read a work marked "adult."
I'm a gen x - leave me out of this!
I'm asking because this is some real feedback I received on some of my writing today: "...with the wordy fancy language plus the info dump, it's too much. Words like steward, Emperor, patron state, missive, parchment, capital city, Imperial Scholars ⊠how many of the millennials, gen Z, and gen A will understand any of these I wonder? Maybe more gen X and older?"
And I'm utterly perplexed. I'm wordy, yes, but none of these feel like "fancy" hard to understand words? They're not even the "hardest" words in the work. I'm a zillenial, if it matters.
Gentle reminder: âbear witnessâ means âlearn about whatâs happening, so you can talk about it, agitate for change, and help where you canâ
Not âyou must watch X number of snuff films and look at X number of dead children, in order to be a good personâ

As a long time fan of Heather Dale and an interpreting student I am SHOCKED that I just now stumbled onto this amazing series. Working with Deaf interpreters, Heather Dale has twenty-five of her songs retold in ASL and I love it. Thereâs a fair bit of rambling I could do about what makes this so fantastic, but honestly yâall should go check it out! ...and let me know if you want me to share my ramblings.
subtitle regulations really need to catch up to modern day productions on youtube
when you have big professional companies like bon appetit, or geek & sundry, or microjig, or americas test kitchen, and theyre producing content to put on youtube and other sites, they shouldnt be allowed to rely on auto captioning, or fans captioning it for them
closed captioning regulations had to be implemented for tv and film because otherwise, we justâŠ. didnt get any
and now that they can get away with not doing it on the internet, theyve gone right back to not captioning anything because nobody is making them
those regulations really need to catch up
tl;dr im hard of hearing and im pissed that closed captioning isnt required on videos on the internet
