Hi, thanks for the ask. There are a few things I wish people knew about psychosis.

-That psychosis does not mean violent or murderous. It's a loss of touch with reality. People incorrectly use the word psychotic all the time and it makes it really hard to get support and understanding.

-How disorienting psychosis can be. When you're in active psychosis, you can't trust any of your senses: your vision, hearing, taste, smell, touch, or even spacial awareness. Yes it can be experienced as a hallucination/people who aren't there, but it can also affect everything in your environment.

-That disorganized thinking and behavior are also symptoms of psychosis. They may assume someone can still function normally while experiencing the other symptoms like hallucinations and not have patience for someone who can't follow a conversation or process otherwise easy tasks.

I also wish people knew when the acute psychotic episode is over, their loved one may still struggle with baseline symptoms. If psychosis is there are part of a larger disorder, you have to take into account *all* of the symptoms which may or may not be ever-present and require patience.

What I wish I knew sooner.... I wish I knew that psychosis doesn't mean you're "crazy" or going to lose it and become a "violent maniac". I recently read some of my old journal entries from the early days and I was terrified of this. I was afraid I'd become some kind of monster.

They’re in such a haze and so blissed out and you just look so good and you feel so good so there is nothing and no one else they can even imagine binding themselves to at that moment. So over all your gasps and moans and pleads they’re stammering and babbling their tenets and promises and prayers, all dedicated to you.

A good and loyal knight dedicating themselves to their new code, the old one they followed for so long left completely behind

Errants or oathbreakers binding themselves to this new law, a new focus for all that lost or unused loyalty.
