So as you guys may know I have a very limited amount of knowledge about the US so here’s a list of things that that confused me, a Brit while reading All for the Game
-USC being a real university
I thought all the universities in this series were all fictional but this one’s actually real and they have an American football team that’s also called the Trojans.
Wild.
-The concept of East and West coast
So you guys divide your country up between the east and the west? Cool. I thought it was just north and south but apparently not.
-Time difference in the same country
Cause what do you mean Jean wakes up and Kevin’s still asleep? That’s crazy that.
-France being considered a far away land
There were so moments where Jean was talking about how Marseille is a distant memory. And I know he meant his childhood there but I’d be dead arse sat here at some points like I mean you can see it from here…fuck wait he’s in America never mind sorry 😅🤣
Fun fact you can actually you can see France from the White Cliffs of Dover on a clear day the more you know~
-A university sport being this big of a thing
Granted I think that’s America with sports in schools in general. I mean the stadiums being used for World Cup matches are your lots school stadiums which is wild to me.
My university graduation the 1st one was in one of the lecture theatres, it didn’t even have a stage. But you’re telling me that the Ravens Vs Foxes match was televised?! Okay okay.
-Aaron Minyard not being in medical school
If you’re gonna be a doctor in the UK you go to medical school as soon as you finish secondary school (11-16 or 18 but in this case 16 years old.) I don’t know if there’s alternate pathways there might be but there’s a very set this is what you do pathway into being a doctor.
Like you have to apply before everyone else does there’s a whole thing about it in school. So it was really confusing seeing Aaron studying biology being all I’m gonna be a doctor but I guess it’s different over there maybe.
Stressed me out though I was like what do you doing put the stick ball down!
-The entire thing about how Neil came to Palmetto
Like we have sports scholarships so the idea of someone getting into a university because a coach picked him out isn’t that wild. But it still baffles me especially cause unlike in America (at least from what I’ve seen) they’re not fully funded here.
Although it could’ve been an interesting thing with Neil secretly paying the rest of that himself and then hiding he’s not secretly rich and hasn’t got one hell of a paper trail now.
But I digress.
Also Neil not knowing what he was gonna study despite attending university confused the hell out of me. There was this whole thing about him picking and choosing his classes from a catalogue and that’s not a thing here.
You apply to a course within a university and then you take that course and that’s it.
-The lack of M16 or other such organisations
I know the whole focus was on the FBI and everything but you’re telling me a British Crime family was involved in some international conspiracy and our lot just went eh not our problem,
I mean that does sound like us but it’s just funny to think about.
