more benches in museums
the benches need to have backs!
(detective comics 750)
Bruce interrupting Talia's PT to go wHere iS YoUr fAthEr while she tries to get him to understand how you can love someone and be mad at them at the same time.... hate his ass
AND THEN THE LEAGUE DRUGS HER AND DRAGS HER OFF AND HE JUST LETS THEM.....
epitome of your concerned coworker who's like well I lost my father young and I'd give anything to have him back I just think estrangement is a really big step maybe you should reconsider.
I joke but on some level I do think Bruce really struggles to understand having a thorny and difficult relationship with a parent because he never got to that point with his own parents. any friction or problems in his upbringing have been so overshadowed by his polishing his grief into a shrine and it's been decades anyway. (he certainly has been in difficult parent-child relationships but uh. not on the kid end.) there are many reasons he is regularly turning down Talia's offers to throw over her father and run away with him but I think part of him instinctively cringes at the idea of cutting off a father who says he loves you no matter how much he plots to kill millions of people!
and Talia, on the other hand, has spent so so long trying to figure out a way to have her father allow her independence and trust without losing him altogether and is becoming increasingly convinced it isn't possible. and the killer thing is she did used to get to operate independently! he did used to trust her! and then she made choices he didn't agree with and he started treating her like a disobedient child to be brought in line and not an adult with her own beliefs.
Imagine being one of the parents for the kids in the Magic School Bus class. Getting those field trip permission slips home every single night.
Like what, another one? Doesnât she teach? This just says Inside a Dog
Ms Frizzle sending you one (1) permission slip at the beginning of the year to cover all the field trips and youâre like huh thatâs a little unusual but I guess itâs efficient at least and then you open it and itâs written like This
I humbly suggest that true crime freaks should get into learning about scammers instead of serial killers. I LOVE reading about fraud and grifts and pyramid schemes. true crime ppl have all this paranoid energy about murder, which is rare in the grand scheme of things.....maybe instead that could be channeled into some productive rage toward capitalism.
And u know a side effect of learning about scam artists is that you start to understand certain things about economics, and just how STUPID these systems are and how easily they are taken advantage of....and I'd much rather people gained a passing familiarity with economics than whatever armchair psychologist shit these true crimers get on. We need fewer people who think they're experts on "sociopaths" and more people who understand how people like Elizabeth Holmes and the WeWork guy were able to do what they did
Here are some of my favorite books about financial scams:
The Wizard of Lies: Bernie Madoff and the Death of Trust by Diana B. Henriques.
The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine by Michael Lewis (about the 2008 stock market collapse).
The Caesar's Palace Coup: How a Billionaire Brawl Over the Famous Casino Exposed the Corruption of the Private Equity Industry by Max Frumes and Sujeet Indap. (I admit I've never finished this one; the writing is hard to read.)
The Great Beanie Baby Bubble: Mass Delusion and the Dark Side of Cute, by Zac Bissonette. I bought this book because of the subtitle and I have never regretted it. You must read it.
Catch Me If You Can by Frank Abagnale. They turned this one into a movie! The book was very different and is worth reading.
The Cult of We: WeWork, Adam Neumann, and the Great Startup Delusion, by Elliot Brown and Maureen Farrell. I haven't read this one yet, but it's on my tbr pile!
Opus: The Cult of Dark Money, Human Trafficking, and Right-Wing Conspiracy Inside the Catholic Church, by Gareth Gore. I'm reading this one right now. The author is a financial journalist who stumbled onto this story by unraveling a bank failure in Spain.
And here's a list of more non-fiction books about fraud and financial scams. The first book on this list is about Theranos and Elizabeth Holmes, which I also haven't read yet.
Enjoy!

Tried to tip a tumblr blog at 1am and it was such a suspicious transaction it immediately put a full fraud freeze on my account
Fortunately, banks no longer just ask 'did you make that transaction' they want to make sure you weren't scammed into making that transaction and 5mins after their call will give away all your money anyway.
This is an honest to goodness life saving movement and I cannot be happier banks are adopting it
Unfortunately, it meant I had to have the most embarrassing financial call of my life
-
Me: Ah yeah I was just trying to tip a tumblr blog
Cash: right and were you directed there by a Facebook link? An Instagram advert?
Me: no I was just on tumblr...on purpose
-
Caah: and this person asked you for money?
Me: oh no they just had a funny story, which happened to be about money and I thought, "wouldn't it be funny if I tipped them"
-
Me: * covering a reblog by reblog update on the adventures my mutual was having *
Cash: okay I don't think that can actually happen though..
Me: It might not have, but i was happy to tip them just because it was funny
-
Cash: and how well do you think you know this person?
Me: *considers explaining how much I know about a beloved mutual without ever knowing their name or face* ... I have no idea who this person is
I think in the end Cash decided there was no saving me from myself

this is my first time doing this type of embroidery. @embroid-away âs art inspired me to start embroidering comic panels. itâs not perfect Iâm still figuring things out but Iâm very proud of it.
I had actually found the comic this panel is in at an antique fair a few weeks ago completely by accident and I just had to get it. thereâs just something so magical about seeing the embroidery right next to a physical comic book.

happy pride
okay so spock (the alien in blue) essentially goes into heat. like literal heat like an animal. Anyway, spockâs in bloodlust in this episode and must go back to vulcan to have sex with his finace (or someone. but its supposed to be his fiance) or heâll literally die. this is called pon farr and some backstory spock is half human and thought he wouldnt go through pon farr so he abandoned his HOT fiance to fuck around in space except oops pon farr happens so. he and kirk (in yellow getting his tits cut open, heâs also spocks captain and best friend) and their other friend mccoy go to vulcan so he can have sex with his fiance or get married or whatever so he doesnât die. but then spockâs fiance (tâpring) is like no i dont want to marry spock i want to have him fight someone to death (which she can do) and spock at this point is fully in the âblood lustâ and is basically not in his right mind and doesnt get whatâs happening. and tâpring picks kirk to be her âchampionâ in the fight (her logic is that if spock dies in the fight she doesnt have to marry him and if kirk dies, spock will be so upset with her he wonât marry her anymore anyway). anyway kirk doesnt know that its a fight to the death and so heâs like of course iâll do this fight if itâll help spock and then he gets told itâs a fight to the death and he goes WHAT and right afterwards spock slices his titties open like in the gif. also eventually spock and kirk roll around in the sand and kirk fakes his death and THIS somehow knocks spock out of his blood lust and he goes back to the ship super sad bc heâs killed his âbest friendâ only to discover kirkâs alive and we see one of his biggest smiles of the series (a big deal bc spock is vulcan and they dont show emotion). anyway this aired as the season opener in 1967. know your history and all that happy pride

honestly my favorite thing about hardison is that he has no real tragic backstory, he's just like "i am very smart and therefore i should be allowed to do crime" and he's entirely correct
i love everyone reblogging this going "yeah! soft boy!" in the tags bc that's my other favorite thing about hardison (i have many) and that's that he's never particularly treated as morally grey bc he is constantly so kind and loving and good and also he enjoys some crime
parker: i have severe psychological trauma and i steal things to cope bc i don't know how to relate to people
eliott: i have a tragic history being entangled in the mafia and even now i could kill the most dangerous fighters without firing a gun
hardison: if money is fake, why not for me and my grandma who i love? :)
âWhen we were kids, the Phonics Wizard came to our town to show off how the letter E can change the sounds of vowels. He turned a can into a cane, a pin into a pine. This one kid had a cap and he changed it into a cape, that kind of thing.
âAnd we loved it, we were all having a great time, but then he saw my sister and I, and he just got this - this look in his eyes, and then-â
She hesitated, worrying the coarse material between her fingers. âThings got pretty bad after that,â she muttered. âI know itâs silly, but I try to keep - her - comfortable. We donât know if she can still hear us, or see us, or if sheâs even still in here, but I like to think she is. I talk to her when I can, I leave music on when Iâm out of the house. I tried to convince my parents to bring her with us when we went to Disneyland, but they didnât - didnât really take that well.â
After a moment, she put the ball of twine back onto its pillow. âAnyways. They tried to arrest the Phonics Wizard, but he had a plan in case something went wrong and he turned it into a plane and flew away.â

im not even the type of guy to go "actually it's frankenstein's MONSTER" because a painting by rembrandt or picasso or any other artist is often called "a rembrandt" or "a picasso" as shorthand. so in this respect frankenstein's monster can be considered "a frankenstein"
darling I love your 8 foot tall patchwork flesh creature, it really livens up the place. is that an authentic frankenstein?
it's only a true frankenstein if it was produced in the frankenstein region of switzerland. otherwise it's just a sparkling homunculus
Harsh, but I accept it I suppose.

âThese are my red flags for women:
If she stabs me more than twice.
If she has a concerning amount of ex-husbands who died on their honeymoon, like... [a brief pause for thought] Like four or more.
If Gozer the Gozerian asks me to choose the form of the destructor and then one of my childhood crushes walks through New York City at 300 feet tall, uh, and steps on a church... [takes a breath and pauses for a second] I mean, itâs not the height! Itâs not the height. I like a climb. But, like. [another breath] She stepped on a church. Or any building, really, âcause. [deep breath followed by a brief pause] Legally theyâre not supposed to be able to ask you about that on like your homeownerâs association application, but- but theyâll ask. Theyâll look it up.
If she doesnât exist in the same physical timeline as I am... [several seconds long pause before continuing, sounding distraught] Iâm not doing that again.â
