Descriptions of type 1 tend to boil down to sticklers and bookkeepers, underplaying that this is a gut type apart from a superego type. The gut triad is about personal autonomy, boundaries and impact.

Enneagram 1 superego is a physical and visceral response to whatever is going on, which propels 1 to action. 1s usually aren't good at articulating these felt signals and, on some level, feel that action and intent are one and the same thing. There is no need to articulate things when you can do something about it. Constructing a mental map, which is what head types go by, is a growth area for 1s. Hence why, when asked why something needs to be such-and-such, they'll likely resort to "Because I say so".

@subconsciousmysteries mentioned more clarity is needed regarding the chemistry orientation of the sx instinct. Basically, instincts are in the brain. 

The lower brain is about the bodily needs like food, water, sleep and sex. The midbrain and up has processing systems that you can categorise as seeking for resources, registering interpersonal awareness and attunement to chemistry.

To simplify things: sp is the lower brain (food, water, sleep, sex) and social and sexual is the midbrain and up. 

Another simplification: having sex for fun is sp. 

Having sex because you want to have children and not for fun means using sx in its basic sense. Genes are being recombined and a child is the result.  

Being sx-dom or sx-aux means you’re using sx in a much broader sense. You follow the things and the people that call to you. These things transform you and you’re another person because of them. You uproot your life and experience chemical dissolving and being remade, only different. That’s chemistry for enneagram-sx.  

Mistaking sp for sx is a thing. One element of sp is the pleasure principle, ie hunting for physically and psychologically gratifying activities. 

There are people who mistake high octane living and things like alcohol, drugs, and risky behaviour as signs of sx. Except that you’re talking about physical and psychological stimulation, which is tied to sp. Mistyping as sx-dominant, sometimes additionally sp-blind because of a need for partying and engaging with people. Add to that stuff like extreme sports but that too is a way of engaging with sp through challenging the body. When taken to the extreme,  it’s a type of anti-sp: testing the sp-neurosis of survival and outlasting. 

Rejection types are focused on staving off rejection, which is why they take a power stance. Since they’re limited in terms of relating to other people, they have preset parameters for interaction. Others basically need to fill these slots. 

This is tied to the neurosis with regard to their own needs. Depending on the situation, they’ll do mental acrobatics such as ignoring, denying, or burying their needs. So they meet their needs on their own, and when cooperation is needed they’ll deny their needs and go “I didn’t need it anyway”. Cutting off and walking away. 

The core neurosis of head types revolves around the idea of being prepared from all the possible threats that arrive from the outside world. When you’re confronted with an actual problem, you come up with a solution to the best of your knowledge and insight. Except head types don’t see this due to their overfocus on every possible issue that may or may not arise. This way, they achieve a sense of psychological support they feel they lack. 

They overfocus on issues that might arise, which prevents them from seeing what’s right in front of them. The defense mechanism has nothing to do with being analytical. If anything, head types usually tend to lose sight of logic. Imagine coming up with “in order to survive, I need to cut off my own head” by means of a solution. 

The core neurosis of body types revolves around the idea of independence and autonomy from the outside world, ie not being affected by it. The contours of the body are the literal boundaries separating the person from their environment. Except body types don’t see this to their overfocus on intrusion, whether real or perceived. So they guard made up ideas about “boundaries”. The defense mechanism has nothing to do with being embodied. If anything, body types usually aren’t fully in the body.

Sx-dominants can be fairly low key, it’s when they open up that the flood comes. Sx/soc disperses so you’re likely to notice their lack of boundaries in the broadest sense of the word. With an sx/sp, you run the risk of overlooking them altogether. You’ll spot the sp-second before you spot the sx-first.
