#instinctual variants

the thing about instinctual variants in the enneagram is that ONE instinct is neurotically focused on more than the others, warped oppressively by the core type’s passion into more emotional territory (which makes a subtype). it’s called the dominant instinct and it’s less of “i’m good at this instinct” and more of “this instinct is how i learned to survive”.

it wouldn’t check out that the dominant instinct wouldn’t affect your fixes as well, because the other two instincts become a secondary instinct and a blind spot. so the instinct order just switches up whenever your 3 fix is 3-fixing❓like…

example: a SX/SP 748 (SX7) wouldn’t have a SP4 fix or something because the SP is a secondary instinct that ASSISTS the dominant instinct, SX. the E4 fix also assists the E7 core when it comes to image because of E4 being the heart fix of the tritype. it all funnels back into the SX7, aka the actual subtype that takes precedence.

like i see how people treat it more like a fun thingimabob but what if somebody new sees it and accepts it as fact 😶

And it’s making me realize… My SO Instinctual Variant happens to… appear more… when I’m in such a state.

It makes me a lot more social, wanting to connect with others, it makes me funnier believe it or not (feels very Type 7), it helps me be more of a part of a group, and it’s very much so enjoyable.

When I am heavily HEAVILY in my dominant Instinctual Variant (SP), as ‘The Wisdom of the Enneagram’ reads……. The stronger, the dominant I.V. (SP)… the more it becomes distorted.

Hmm.

Anyway, when I’m SP, I love my people but I’m just not as sociable and quite frankly I get selfish for my own ‘me-time’ comforts, often shunning out the real world around me.
