How does the nature of type 7 interact with dom Se? High Se makes for concrete realists that see things/people as they are, but core 7 is said to be idealists who reframe things positively. So would an ESFP 7 have rose colored glasses on? Whenever I read on 7 it sounds very much like Ne doms because it is always planning for the future and doesn’t like to limit themseleves to one path. But ESXPs generally have no firm vision for their future but in the short term seem to know what they want and this want is usually singular. So does having Ni and not Ne somewhat tame the characteristics of 7?
It’s all tied to the concrete activities they have planned and their relationships.
My ESFP 7w6 sister would always throw herself whole-hog into something, excitedly informing me that this was going to be life-changing, and she was going to do this forever and make a ton of money at it. (“I love this job! It’s amazing! If I stick with it, I’ll be a millionaire in a year!”) Then I could expect her to be bored out of her mind and job-hunting within 1-3 years. Usually 8 months or so. Same with her relationships. “I’ve found my forever guy!” Eh, doubt it. Several marriages, a dozen boyfriends. You name it, she has done it, from skydiving to sip ‘n’ paint classes to skiing to house-flipping. One Christmas, she and her daughter flipped a house in about a month, ripping everything out, replacing everything, doing it all themselves.
She bounces between relentless idealism and constant 6 over-exaggerating every problem so that she is a victim and needs sympathy; but if you push her to be more careful because of these reactive hysterics, she bounces back into 7 and has relentless positivity and a “can do” attitude. Yes, it's terrible, but I WILL PERSERVERE!!! You can’t talk me out of this, I just want you to know how hard it is, but I am handling it (be impressed!).
As a teenager, she was very experimental and rebellious and hands-on, and she has a talent for stretching the truth to tell a better story. She will stick out hard things up to a point and then ditch them when they become unbearable or she hits a wall. But she’s never stagnant, never hesitant, and never stuck in one place for long. Always mentally excitedly planning what she’s going to do next; I was at dinner with her one time, and she was mentally going over the plans for her house-flip rather than being fully present with me. So, the head core is still buzzy, but it’s all centered in concrete possibilities; what I can do, see, touch, hear, accomplish, try out, get a thrill from.
So no, Se-dom 7s are extremely 7. There is no tying into inferior Ni’s vision, it’s more “welp, I’ve spent 30 years bouncing from relationship to relationship and job to job, and now I’m a tiny bit worried about my total lack of retirement funds, but I’m sure it will be fine. I’m someone who lands on their feet!”
