Jim Kirk seems like a wild man because he’s standing next to calm, logical Spock.*  

Meanwhile, Picard seems stately and dignified because he’s standing next to Will “Any alien physiology is bangable if you just put some thought into it” Riker*.  

* Of course THEN, we get to the next layer, which is that Spock is the dude who told the Vulcan Science Academy to fuck itself, while Riker plays the trombone.

I’ve told this story before, but I will again.

When I lived in London, there was an old widow who lived near me. She had almost nothing to her name thanks to the laws at the time, except a small room in a house full of lodgers. She frequently made the difference in her meager living by doing spinning. Trouble was, she was almost completely blind and had very frail hands. She would nod off in her chair–the one piece of furniture she had–and leave the wool in the basket. I could see her from the rooftop that I liked to sit on, just off of Fish Street. And I knew her at sight, because she was always meeting her daughter in front of a particular shop I used to frequent. One night, I saw her nod off and the spindle hit the floor, and I thought, “I’m bored, and isn’t this a fun game to play?”

So I went and did it. I like spinning. It’s calming. It troubled me not one bit to do, and when the habit persisted, she began to wonder about it. She started leaving me presents and relying on me a bit, going to sleep on her mat, rather than sitting up in the chair. The spinning would always be done. 

What wrong with giving an old woman magic, if it is within your power to do?

I found her body when she died, by that very means, and made sure someone else knew of it. It makes me very happy that when she laid down that night, perhaps not feeling her best, or perhaps knowing it was time, she said to herself, “My little imp will come tonight and see to me.”

he is whiter then snow. this man is pure 100% american redneck in everything but the politics. this is intimidating if you dont know him because he owns like 3 different guns but also has animated discussions about “how his sister should be able to get married” when you bring up lgbt rights. his sister isnt even gay or trans or anything, he just thinks that LGBT rights also means that the lady should propose when she wants to. hes a little confused but he got the spirit. upon finding out that i am queer he said, word for word “THATS FUCKING RADICAL HOMIE” 

in the first week of school he snorted a line of pepper in the cafeteria and threw up.

the only other crime hes committed before was accidently dropping a weight from his balcony and cracking the sidewalk. which is technically destruction of public property but the judge basically laughed at him and have him 10 hours of community service

Zuko is about 3-4 years older then in canon. But everything else is the exact same - he was still banished at 13, he was still told to search for the avatar, all of it. He’s just been banished for close to 7 years instead of 3.

So when he pulls up to the Southern Water Tribe, he see’s Aang and the line “you’re just a child” isn’t said in anger - he’s just a child how can i prove to my father im strong if he’s just a child there is no honor in besting a child - it’s in horror - because that is a child, and his father has never shown a child mercy, (and Azula is still there, Azula who was only 7 when he left, Azula who barely knows him except in letters and his fathers lies) and he is so tired of watching children, his people, his children, burn.

So he pinches the bridge of his nose and sighs because fuck. “Ok kid get on the boat.”

“Why?” The Avatar asks, eyes wide.

“You need a ride to the north, right? Get on the boat you cam hitch with us. There’s no reason to stick around.”

The man (teenager, boy, war paint smudging from where snow had slipped down his hood) steps forward, spear pointed at Zukos chest. “And why should we trust anything you say, ashmaker.”

It’s a fair question. Zuko blinks once, considering, and blinks again, turning to face his ship. “Hai Wani!” He shouts, smirking as faces pop into view, some hanging out the portholes. Apparently they’d all wanted to see the what was going on. “Anyone here still loyal to Ozai?”

There’s a pause, and Jee’s armour creaks in a ‘wtf my lord’. Mouthy bastard.

Teruko scrambles out of a porthole, hanging from the rivets, “HEY IS IT TREASON TIME? ARE WE DOING TREASON NOW?? FUCKING FINALLY CAPTAIN WE THOUGHT YOUD NEVER ASK!!”

And Zuko laughs, turning back to the child avatar, “that’s the proof i can offer you now.”

You guys really seemed to like my last dadzawa rec list, so here’s p2. Once again, they’re in no particular order of greatness, and many of the summaries were very long so I put the shortened down versions of them. 

1) Splintering Ice- emmals16

Aizawa should really consider not letting his kids off campus at all. It never goes well. He has enough nightmares about their past excursions gone-wrong. And dragging a half-frozen kid out of a frozen lake is definitely something that will haunt him forever.

Incomplete, 9/10. Hella fucking good angst, I LOVE the protective!Dadzawa in this, it absolutely does not shy away from anything, it is raw and angsty and beautiful. This one is so painfully underrated too, it deserves so much more attention so please go read it, it’s so well-written. 

2) Smoke before fire- achievingelysium

Aizawa meets Midoriya’s middle school teacher, who seems to have an alarming view of his former student.

One-Shot. Dadzawa angry at how his broccoli son was treated. Love it, but I literally love everything that achievingelysium writes so yeah, go read all their stuff, they write amazing BNHA pics.

3) Refraction- achievingelysium

After an incident that leaves several students hospitalized, Shouta thinks about one student—Midoriya—and finds he’s reminded of a friend from another time.

One-Shot. Manga spoilers for this one, so I won’t say much in my review, but like all of achievingelysium’s stuff, it’s very good.

4) Of Bias and Bravery- Mintoki

“It’s not that his peers are inherently cruel to the Quirkless. Izuku firmly believes that, if the truth ever got out to his classmates, they would still welcome him with open arms. At the same time though, acceptance does not necessarily mean they are well-informed on the subject. His classmates might be well-intentioned, but sometimes the words that come out of their mouths cut deeper than even he could have ever expected.”

One-Shot. I LOVE this one. It’s so painfully delicious (I’m a sadist) to see how even Izuku’s friends are affected by society’s ignorance and how it hurts my precious broccoli boi. This isn’t a dadzawa centric fic, but it has a very nice dadzawa moment at the end, so I included it.

5) Dam failure- orkestrations

Aizawa addresses the fact that Bakugou physically assaulted Midoriya, for no good reason, during their final exam.

One-Shot. Dadzawa doing what he really should’ve fucking done in the show?? Thank you!!

6) The World on His Shoulders- baggytshirtsandtiredeyes

During their second year, Aizawa decides to take some of the students on patrol to give them a taste of the underground hero life. But of course, nothing goes as planned when UA’s resident Problem Child is involved.

One-Shot. OOO I LOVE THIS ONE! Usually a lot of Aizawa and Midoriya fics are whump but for once this involves Aizawa actually being shook and amazed at Midoriya’s strength cuz he’s a freakishly strong boi and everyone should remember that!

7) Problem toddler- anonymous

Izuku gets deaged, and Yagi learns what suffering is.

One-Shot. Dadzawa AND Dadmight for you! Featuring jealous!Dadmight cuz baby Midoriya loves Dadzawa more.

8) Fatherly Affection- otawritesthings

Shota Aizawa ’s full time job is teaching. It is NOT fathering twenty-something screaming highschoolers. It isn’t. Nope.

22 Chapters. Gotta love Dadzawa pretending like he’s not a dad when he’s in the act of being a dad. I like how each chapter focuses on his interactions with a specific member of class 1-A, even the ones that get less screen time. 

9) Recovery- liions

Class 1-A has been noticing something different about their teacher since the USJ Incident. Not bad different, just, Different. It fueled their gossip hours, just why did he keep dropping things? Midoriya gets a chance to find out.

One-Shot. I love fics that actually address the consequences of big, traumatic events, like Kamino, the camp attack, or heck even Bakugou attacking Midoriya during their test. Or, in this case, USJ and the Nomu beating Aizawa to a pulp. Fun times- not. 

10) darken your door- beeclaws

Aizawa tries to go get popcorn and instead gets an uncomfortable encounter with a student’s estranged father.

Three chapters. BRUH how have I not mentioned beeclaws before? They write THE BEST dadzawa fics! This one is one of my favs, but they have plenty of other great ones too!

So lately I’ve been reading a lot of Dadzawa fics so I thought I’d share them with you. I shortened down the summaries of some of the longer ones- I didn’t put them in my own words of course, but I just used the shortened snippets that authors sometimes put at the end of their own longer summaries. They’re in no particular order of greatness, and I tried to get a good blend of popular and less popular ones so here u go.

1) i. shaky hands- rexcorvidae

midoriya has chronic pain, and tries to hide it. aizawa deals with this, and learns something surprising along the way.

One-Shot. Honestly their whole whumptober collection is amazing I would totally read them all if you have the time, they’re pretty much all loaded with great Dadzawa content

2) Not all exits are made Equal- LunaLucrea

When a raid goes wrong, and Aizawa gets taken, he’s hardly expecting to be found. He’s a professional Underground Hero. He’s seen situations like this play out before, and knows how the cards usually fall.

He’s got people he’ll miss of course, and he feels terrible about what this is going to do to Hizashi and Eri, but these are the types of risks he agreed to when he signed on the dotted line all those years ago. He’s ready to accept his fate.

Too bad for him his former students are tenacious little shits.

Three chapters. I love seeing how Aizawa interacts with older Midoriya in the first chapter and how he thinks of all of his former students now that they’re pro heroes, he’s such a proud dad but he’s also so self-deprecating and he needs some love and class 1-A will force it on him. Wholesome, 10/10, but also warning for whump! on Aizawa’s part.

3) To the people we admire- The_ crownless_ queen

Eri learns about autographs, and how they’re a way for fans to show they like their heroes. Naturally, she wants all of them — and especially Eraserhead’s.

One-Shot. I don’t read many Eri fics but my god, this one is adorable. Eri learns about autographs and wants Aizawa’s but his students know that Aizawa doesn’t really give autographs so they devise a plan to get one out of him- basically by making him jealous of Eri getting autographs from every hero but him. It’s wholesome, Dadzawa is like ‘wtf Eri’, I love it.

4) Inhibitions- Thealmostrhetoricalquestion

Todoroki gets zapped by a Quirk that effectively lowers someone’s inhibitions, and Aizawa deals with the strange, humorous, heart-breaking fallout.

The train ride back is something of a nightmare. Not because it goes badly, or because something awful happens, but because Aizawa can’t get rid of this feeling in his chest every time he sees Todoroki’s unusual, carefree smile. He looks like nothing has ever hurt him.

One-Shot. Lol, this one’s funny- Todoroki acts all loopy and carefree and Aizawa is frantically scrambling after him trying to make sure he doesn’t get himself into trouble, all while finding out more than he’d ever thought he’d learn about his student. Good shit, good comedy, good angst.

5) I consider myself lucky- alightintheshadows

For some of us, our teachers are the greatest role models we’ll ever have.

One-Shot. Ugh, this is so sappy and kinda cheesy but I love it! Izuku gives his dads All Might and Aizawa gifts because he loves is grateful to them. WHOLESOME SHIT

6) Not in the Job Description- IidaRei98

A collection of drabbles revolving around the Dadazawa and Class 1A. Mostly fluff with some hurt/comfort - whatever pops into my head really!

Incomplete, 56/? Chapters. Solid collection of dadzawa drabbles. I didn’t finish reading them all because I get easily distracted away from long fics, but since it doesn’t follow a plot it’s easy to put down and pick back up when you wanna get your dadzawa fix.

7) passing through fire- achievingelysium

“What happened? A villain?”

“Ye- yeah,” Midoriya croaks. Shouta starts walking.

“I was there,” Shouta says, feeling through the words before he speaks, “but I don’t remember?”

Midoriya closes his eyes.

“No,” he agrees, “you wouldn’t. But- but you… were there. With… me.”

Aizawa finds himself in a street with little memory of how he got there. Then he discovers Midoriya, beaten and bruised, who claims Aizawa protected him—but as Aizawa regains pieces of his memory he realizes Midoriya may be lying, and he’s the one who’s done his own student harm.

One-Shot. OOH, OUCH, FUCKING LOVE THIS ONE! God I love the Dadzawa ANGST in this! I haven’t seen a dadzawa fic with a plot like this before, so I highly recommend checking this one out, especially if you like ANGST! Love it!

8) a penny for your thoughts- cassiopeia721

While visiting Eri at the hospital following her rescue from the Shie Hassaikai, Izuku and Aizawa-sensei both run into a nurse with a telepathy based quirk, and Izuku finds himself in a telepathic bond with his teacher. This is… somewhat worrying, considering how many secrets Izuku needs to keep.

Six chapters. Yet another Dadzawa fic with a unique concept that I have never come across before. Very good, much angst! My only complaint is I wish Izuku could’ve heard a bit more of Aizawa’s angsty thoughts, the whole thought-hearing did feel a bit one-sided at times, but overall it was a very good fic. The angst of Izuku struggling to keep his many secrets from Aizawa for a whole week was *chef’s kiss* Good dad-son bonding.

9) Geyser- spineless

Izuku faints during class when weeks of sleeping and eating poorly catch up with him. Aizawa, All Might, and his friends, remind him that no matter what he’s going through, he doesn’t have to do it alone.

Three Chapters. Good Dadzawa being all disapproving of his son Izuku pushing himself too hard and not taking care of himself like he can fucking talk lol. But also some angst cuz Izuku is a tormented boi who has been through too much and is Not OkayTM and his dads are there to help him.

10) The World on His Shoulders- baggytshirtsandtiredeyes

During their second year, Aizawa decides to take some of the students on patrol to give them a taste of the underground hero life. But of course, nothing goes as planned when UA’s resident Problem Child is involved.

One-Shot. Izuku is a BAMF and Aizawa is like O.O. I can’t say anything more. This fic deserves more attention.

Short list of the Shit the HOA at my pervious house tried to pull:

Banning personal and community food gardens (The reason the tag for my garden is “The garden of earthly HOA violations”)

Banning people from using thier personal yards as Native Plant Restoration microzones, something that looks gorgeous and is extremely helpful to the local ecology

trying to get the city council to remove protections on adjacent city Open Space/Native Plant restoration zone so they could mow it.

mandating the use of ONE landscaping company in the neighborhood, coinicdentally owned by the HOA president’s son

Mandating the use of an unecessary water purification company on all properties.

suing city animal control for collecting lose dogs and cats and returning them to the addresses on thier collars.  You know. that thing animal control does so the animals don’t get run over or disemboweled by the coyotes or catch and spread rabies.  The thing that’s illegal to let your pet do out here for those reasons Karen.

Suing the city council to remove a city bus stop in the neighborhood that was heavily used by many residents.  They damn near got away with it becuase the HOA meetings were always in the middle of the day on a weekday.  You know, when the residents that use that stop are working.

Sending people letters threatening to fine them for having “Out Of Season” holiday decor.  Specifically targeting my Indian neighbors who were celebrating Diwali, not Christmas and the Jews with visible Menorahs.

Fining people for doing thier own appliance and car repair on thier own personal property

Fining people for operating a business out of thier house, specifically targeting a disabled neighbor that does comission tailoring and garment repair out of her home.  never bothered a soul except the one snoopy bitch who didn’t like that her clients were allowed to park in the tailor’s designated and otherwise unused parking space.

Trying to fine a neighbor for flying a Pride Flag

HOAs are invasive, bigoted, corrupt and cruel institutions that should never have been allowed to be created.  If you live in and HOA area, showing up at the meetings to tell people what the fuck is wrong with them, Joining your HOA board to protect your neighbors and possibly organize the dissolution of the HOA is one of the best things you can do to protect the marginalized members of your community.

Jamison Green, born in 1948. He was a pioneer for trans men after Lou Sullivan's death. He's still alive.

Carter Brown, a victim of workplace transphobia, and the founder of Black Transmen Inc.

Robert Eads, 1945-1999. Pictured with his trans female partner, Lola. I recommend watching Southern Comfort, which follows him throughout his final year of life. His story is a beautiful one, but also a tragic example of medical transphobia.

Loren Cameron, born in 1959. A photographer and artist, who curated exceptional and groundbreaking collections of trans photography.

Willmer Broadnax, 1916-1992. A black gospel singer who never medically transitioned, but lived his entire life as a male, in public.

Lucas Silveira, born in 1979. He is the first openly transgender man to have signed with a major record label. He is still alive.

Billy Tipton, 1914-1989. He did not undergo a medical transition, but raised multiple children, and had a successful musical career.

Jim McHarris, a black trans man born in 1954, who you can read more about here.

Reed Erickson, 1917-1992. You can read about his insanely important contribution to LGBT+ progress here.

Stop erasing trans male stories by leaving us out of Pride Month posts.

Trans men are not a footnote in history.

Trans men are not an afterthought.

We have always been around.

Erasure of trans men, and transmasculine people more generally, perpetuates the myth that queerness is inherently feminine. Butch lesbians, male impersonators, and trans men have always been central to LGBT+ progress and pride. I'm tired of people defaulting to anti-FTM mindsets, or at the very least, erasing trans men as their first instinct. I'm sick of the invisibility that we suffer. I'm sick of masculine lesbians, like Stormé DeLarverie, being treated as irrelevant. I feel so much solidarity with butches and lesbians who have been cut out of history, because the same thing is happening to trans men.
