zero stars for nolan because odysseus, on his journey home to ithaca, was NOT visited by a ghost that tells him that once he reaches his home, once he slays all his enemies and sets his house in order he must do one last thing before he can rest. the ghost does NOT tell him to pick up an oar, walk inland, keep walking, until somebody mistakes that oar for a shovel. for that would be the place that no man has ever been troubled by the sea. and that's where he'd find peace.

Okay but genuinely is there something missing here?? Because when I lived in Vancouver BC it was $5.25ish CA for a three-zone ticket to school and that was an hour and a half from A to B. Why is a 30 minute $5 ride an insurmountable task. What am I not seeing here

People in the US regularly commute an hour each way, every day. This is not at all uncommon. Two hours, on the low end, to see a date, isn’t a trivial amount of time, but it is still short enough that saying you can’t afford to do it multiple times a year is very weird. The reason USAmericans are so baffled by this isn’t because we’re all imagining a non-existent best-case; it’s because even with the above additional context, this would be considered a mind-bogglingly won’t-put-myself-out-even-to-see-a-loved-one attitude on the American side of the pond.
