the commodification of friendship is the most annoying thing to come out of the internet in ages. like actually i love to break this to you but you're supposed to help your friends move even if it's hard work. or stay up with them when they're sad even if you're gonna lose sleep. you're supposed to listen to their fears and sorrows even if it means your own mind takes on a little bit of that weight. that's how you know that you care. they will drive you to the airport and then you will make them soup when they're sick. you're supposed to make small sacrifices for them and they are supposed to do that for you. and there's actually gonna be rough patches for both of you where the balance will be uneven and you will still be friends and it will not be unhealthy and they will not be abusive. life is not meant to be an endless prioritization of our own comfort if it was we would literally never get anywhere ever. jesus.

I've reached the point where cynicism is a major turn-off for me. You're not smarter than idealists, and you're not helping.

Funny that the stereotypical cynic is an idealist who aged out of it. In my experience, the reverse is true. I was an extreme cynic as a teenager and then I noticed how profoundly limiting it was, and also that "cynics are cool and smart" was a message that was being constantly reinforced by corporate media for some reason.

Cynical people are toddlers who are throwing a tantrum because they just found out we're not going to the playground today. You gotta wait for them to scream their feelings out before they can get their bearings and go play in the backyard instead. This takes longer for some people than for others.

I just realized that I’m in my very own idiots to lovers story, and I feel slightly ridiculous for not clueing in sooner.

This morning I discovered that my fellow idiot had not yet clued in, either. It was interesting to watch him process it, but now I’m having Emotions (mostly anxiety) about how two idiots are going to manage this.

My fellow idiot and I have agreed to start going on dates in addition to being FWBs. Yesterday at a pub we had a conversation about the various types of meds we each take. It was oddly nice.
