Can someone, anyone, please explain to me where Rocky saying “statement” comes from? Why is this a thing? How does it make sense?
As far as I know, saying “statement” at the end of a statement is not a canon thing. Now, I’m not one to shy away from headcanons, I love seeing different interpretations! Aroace Grace has my heart and giant Adrian is iconic! But this??
The book states that “question” is a linguistic quirk of Eridian language that Rocky just never dropped. It’s like gendering objects in third person in English if your first language is like French or Spanish or something. It’s cute! Linguistic differences are dope! And this is (in my humble opinion as someone w a bit of a linguistic background), a realistic one too! There are languages on earth that do this! Hell, you could even say that English does so, with the tone rising to indicate a question (a bit of a stretch, but still cool). But do you know how many statements there are in general speech? This is our general way of talking. It is the norm. Questions are an outlier and need to be differentiated from said norm. No one is going to put “statement” at the end of every sentence that isn’t a question. Not even fan artists! Sometimes it feels like they try to emphasize a certain sentence by adding “statement,” but very often it just feels like it’s haphazardly thrown in. It’s not consistent and that bothers me the most of all. If you want to use “statement,” a clunky extra word to show the norm, at least do it with consistency. Use it in every statement. Please, I beg of you.
Or better yet, just use “question”! “Statement” is not a thing! Y’all are so bloody talented and the message gets across without it too, I promise

My mother would like the Internet to know that she finds the use of the word "bedlam" in tonight's episode of #houseofthedragon to be a quote "glaring inaccuracy". 🤣The word was derived from the name of a brutally inhumane 14th century psychiatric hospital: The Hospital of Saint Mary of Bethlehem.
As there are no hospitals in the ASOIAF universe, this word being in the vernacular seems highly unlikely.
She would like to know if anyone else was upset by this 😅

Probably /ɬ/. I just find it fun to pronounce. I've always found it quite easy to pronounce too despite its reputation. The existence of this phoneme in Welsh has been a significant part of my motivation to learn that language.
