Just remember. There is no such thing as a fake geek girl. There are only fake geek boys. Science fiction was invented by a woman.
Specifically a teenage girl. You know, someone who would be a part of the demographic that some of these boys are violently rejecting.
Isaac Asimov.
yo mary shelley wrote frankenstein in 1818 and isaac asimov was born in 1920 so you kinda get my point
If you want to push it back even further Margaret Cavendish, the duchess of Newcastle (1623-1673) wrote The Blazing World in 1666, about a young woman who discovers a Utopian world that can only be accessed via the North Pole - oft credited as one of the first scifi novels
Women have always been at the forefront of literature, the first novel (what we would consider a novel in modern terms) was written by a woman (Lady Muraskai’s the Tale of Genji in the early 1000s) take your snide “Isaac Asimov” reblogs and stick it
even in terms of male scifi authors, asimov was predated by Jules Verne, HG Wells, George Orwell, you could have even cited Poe or Jonathan Swift has a case but Asimov?
PbbBFFTTBBBTBTTBBTBTTT so desperate to discredit the idea of Mary Shelly as the mother of modern science fiction you didn’t even do a frickin google search For Shame
And if you want to go back even further, the first named, identified author in history was Enheduanna of Akkad, a Sumerian high priestess.
Kinda funny, considering this Isaac Asimov quote on the subject:
Mary Shelley was the first to make use of a new finding of science which she advanced further to a logical extreme, and it is that which makes Frankenstein the first true science fiction story.
Even Isaac Asimov ain’t having none of your shit, not even posthumously.
You know what else was invented by women? Masked vigilantes, the precursor to the modern superhero. Baroness Emma Orczy wrote The Scarlet Pimpernel in 1905. The character would later inspire better known masked vigilantes such as Zorro and Batman.
Got that?
Stick that in your international pipe and smoke it
I have literally been telling people this for over a year.
the first extended prose piece - ie a novel, was not, as many male scholars will shout, Don Quixote (1605) but The Tale of Genji (1008) written by a woman
The first autobiography ever written in English is also attributed to a woman, The Book of Margery Kempe (1430s).
The day may come when I find this post and do not reblog it, but it is not this day.

this book is out now!!! it's a short read, less than 200 pages, and it's SO good. i literally had to pause halfway through just to send the author a message about how much i liked it. definitely leans more utopian than scientific, but that makes sense given the format, and i think it has a lot of good things to say.
once you really start thinking about how restrictive the world is for children and how many bullshit justifications we retroactively come up for it all the time, you can't stop seeing it everywhere. this book makes a good case for including children in our political efforts not as rhetorical devices but as an actual class of oppressed people.

god i wish more sources talked about "sex" hormones like this
ironically its in a book about female sex anatomy that ive come across it (Vagina Obscura by Rachel E. Gross). everyone only wants to focus on the secondary sex characteristics and not the bazillion other functions of estrogen, testosterone, and co.
every body uses both of them!! for a million reasons!!!!! aaaaaa!!!!!!!

Hey. Why isn’t the moon landing a national holiday in the US. Isn’t that fucked up? Does anyone else think that’s absurd?
It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! That’s a big deal! I’ve never thought about it before but now that I have, it’s ridiculous to me that that’s not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why don’t we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!
It’s July 20th. That’s the day of the moon landing. Next year is going to be the 54th anniversary. I’m ordering astronaut shaped cookie cutters on Etsy and I’m going to have a goddamn potluck. You’re all invited.
Hey. Hey. Tumblr. Ides of March ppl. We can do this
Hell yeah moon holiday
Ooh coming up we should celebrate
PITCH: We call it Moon Day, and then every 7 years when it falls on a Monday, that's an even BIGGER deal and we call that Moon Day Monday and go absolutely apeshit about it (the next Moon Day Monday is in 2026 so we have a couple trial runs first)
MOON DAY MOON DAY MOON DAY
moon day is 20th July!!!
Scheduling this a day earlier to remind you all and myself about the Moon Day tomorow!
Happy moon day to all who celebrate
This is your reminder to prep for Moon Day on July 20th.
MOON DAY MONDAY THIS MONTH NOT A DRILL!!!!!
something something Mother Mary and Perse Athenide being mistaken for one another
something something PHM having a lot of Athenide imagery
something something Ryland Grace being given fox imagery
something something the Star-Touched Athenide, a goddess with a sub domain of stars and navigation at sea, and Dr. Grace, an astronaut going far beyond his stars
something something similarities between the Mother of Demigods and the middle school science teacher
something something Dr. Ryland Grace being betrayed by the humanity he tried to save and being sent aboard a ship with imagery for the goddess of loyalty
something something some demigod or mortal gives the Athenide the epithet "Goddess and Protector of One Way Trips" and tying it to her psychopomp duties and through modern day collective hive mind, becomes the psychopomp to dead astronomers

Just thinking about kat and 6 being the only women on noble team. Kat's hair is really short while 6's hair is longer, choppy, and uneven. You can easily tell she cuts her hair with crafts scissors when it gets too long. Yeah it's out of dress code but nobody has ever seen 6 without her helmet off so who cares. Except for noble team. Kat and 6 have a strange mutual understanding. They were orphans turned child soldiers. They remember their parents and planets and childhoods. Whenever kat braids 6's hair she feels normal again. It's healing to have a small slice of normalcy, sisterhood, in spite of constant war. And 6 feels the same way as well. Maybe it reminds kat of when she used to braid her friends' hair during recess when she was a little girl. Maybe it reminds 6 of when her mom or older sister braided her hair when her family was still alive and deeply treasured 6.
pause. are they implying riptide is made out of the same metal kronos's scythe was made out of? or did poseidon literally carve kronos up with riptide millennia ago? in the pjoverse, zeus uses his scythe to dismember him and cut him into a thousand pieces, and now percy is claiming that riptide was used to "kill" kronos millennia ago. so like. riptide being made out of the same metal as the scythe? crazy lore but alright
can you imagine the scythe being divided between the brothers and hidden in their domains only for zoe to find a beautiful piece of metal that reminds her of her uncle and turn it into a hairpin. and them she gifts it to a mortal she thinks she could befriend before he discards her and she goes on to find purpose with the hunters and then millennia later this little boy destined to kill or aid kronos in a new titanomachy shows up wielding a blade made of his own weapon. maybe it wasn’t handed down directly but this boy is zoe’s family the way he is kronos’ family and heracles’ family and he is destined to be better or worse than all of them.
can you imagine the trust necessary to allow him to continue using such a powerful weapon with such a meaningful history?
wait the concept of the metal of kronos’s scythe that was used to topple ouranos and kronos being disbursed all over the world millennia ago—out of fear of its power and continuing the cycle of toppling the rulers—eventually becoming part of riptide, thalia’s spear, and nico’s stygian iron sword…………
ok this is giving me an idea where kronos is invading manhattan and he sees a child of…one of those pesky sons of his with black hair fighting at the bridge, and it has a weapon made from the remnants of his scythe. he quietly nope outta there and lets his forces fight.
and then he’s almost at the empire state. and there’s Another One. black hair, one of his sons’ kids, wielding part of his own weapon against his forces. he dips into the skyscraper to let someone else take that fight.
he’s in the throne room. he’s about to destroy the thrones, he’s about to win. and then another black-haired little shit walks up behind him, reeking of his and his sons’ blood, once again holding a weapon carved from his own.
and kronos, who was in a million pieces when glasses were invented, howls in frustration, “HOW MANY OF YOU ARE THERE?”
What's in a name
ok i did it. image for people who like defending caine but also want to make it clear that they Understand that He Did Bad Things. feel free to use, no credit required. enjoy

Apparently
Ooh, I can finally bring up something I realized some time ago.
Remember how Ragatha says she "always knew" of the mind files/copy thing in ep9?
Thinking back, taking her reaction to Caine's reveal in ep7 ("none of that was true? The C&A stuff. The pods -- The way out?") her calling out to other people when she got in the circus, and the transition from that implying she was thinking back to that first day in ep8.
It was all Ragatha putting the pieces together for the reveal.
And Annabelle just gave her another Hard Clue.
*Yeah* Also Annabelle doing maintenance work in the mothballed C&A building may give her some more insights into the situation.
She just really REALLY doesn’t want to think about it, because realistically there’s no way she’s hooked up to a headset. She didn’t work alone, and she knows that her guys would take the headset off if she was somehow stuck in it. Which is why she was calling out for her guys after arriving
Similar to Ragatha putting it together in ep8.
the two of them, and Kinger if he’s lucid, having a conversation, could maybe bring them to that conclusion a bit earlier. And then they have the fun option of “do we lie or do we crush everybody’s hope”
