tweet sequence of a not-quite-friend and artist i admire that i find myself thinking of constantly
My internal monologue at all times.
efficient public service requires career public servants
Because zero continuity, expertise, and consistent implementation is going SO well rn. Imagine saying this post-doge agency decapitation....
The ānever intended to beā claim always makes me chuckle when it pops up on something because 1) prove it and 2) so what? We canāt change?
Also, civil service has been an expected good career and pathway to the middle class for at least 150 years. Whatās new is the scorn for public sector employees, which happened to increase dramatically as guess what ethnic group started jointing public sector careers in large numbers?
Iām guessing OP, like many a Online Politics Knower, thinks the civil service is done by magic and/or underpants gnomes. Which explains their knowledge about policy process.
Again people just say the word codifying like it's some magic word that makes it totally unassailable. The Voting Rights Act was codified into law and yet it got absolutely gutted. There's nothing to suggest that the monomaniacally obsessed Republican party wouldn't have found some way to use the Supreme Court to gut any national abortion law the second any flimsy pretext came up.
I am begging online commentators to take a single class on how the American government, especially the courts and overall bureaucracy, operates. Or even read a Wikipedia article. Or even learn what ācodifyingā means and doesnāt.
basically this is what all those 911 gifsets look like to me

Lessons from the interminable Hasan Piker debate
Third, the new establishment often does not have a firm grasp on what they believe about the material world. One reason is that too many of our most prominent voices have no experience outside of politics and media. They have not run a school. They have not served in the military. They have not treated a patient, prosecuted a case, worked a trade, or built anything. They are fluent in a kind ofĀ macro-bullshit-speakĀ that sounds smart but rarely survives contact with the real world. So if you pick an issue like education, you would be hard pressed to find anything meaningful or courageous that most of our partyās key media figures and politicians have said. When they sit down with someone who appears to have the courage of his or her convictions, they are largely spectators, even when that someone, as with Piker, is spouting complete nonsense.
This is far more lucid and thoughtful than my constant mental refrain when I hear/read anything the Podcast/Streamer Industrial Complex bleats out. Or honestly most progressive influencersā¦I mean ācomediansā and āactivists.ā Which is basically the teary Naomi Campbell āYou are all so stupidā meme.
Like my fucking god, it may be me getting old and ornery, but these people are all dumb as rocks. And I would give so many things to launch the Pod Save America guys into the fucking sun.
Sir this is a Wendyāsā¦
you have this superpower! BUT you have this side-effect
is it worth it?
yes!!
the side effect is bad but ITS WORTH IT
meh it's okay
the side effect makes it unusable/not worth it

God I love Chick Tract inspired art.
For everyone who āused to love readingā but now hasnāt finished a book in years, you CAN get it back. Genuinely start bringing a book (preferably short and either fiction or a non fiction topic you already really enjoy) everywhere you go and when you have 5-20 mins waiting for the bus or at the doctors office or mechanic or whatever, get out your book and read it! You donāt have to finish it quickly or even read it often but it is so good for your brain and fun to get into the habit of reading more (and replacing being on your phone for those moments). Source: I read 0 books in 2023 and Iāve read 12 in the first 4 months of 2026
Thereās also Silent Book clubs, where you bring your own reading material and you read for an hour.

This and Tig Notaro telling her future wife āok dykeā when she was crashing out over their first kissā¦the most romantic shit ever.
Unsure why they chose AOC to be the face of this editorial when it should be Jeff Bezos, the billionaire this editorial is trying to defend.

The first thing i thought was, āyeah thereās some mornings where I think I need that much coffeeā
The idea that government officials don't fund U.S. education to keep people dumb and compliant aaaaallllllmost skims being a conspiracy theory.
I think there is certainly some erosion of education to keep people conservative fundamentalist Christians, and that's essentially the same thing, but
I think the vast majority of underfunding U.S. education and funnelling that finance into private education can be summarized by moneymoneymoneymoneyMONEYmoneymoney
I think it's important to ask "am I attributing underhanded scheming to something that can be accounted for by moneymoneymoney"
The āconspiracyā simply amounts to the rich and Upper Middle Class doing what they do best: protecting their interests, at the expense of others, facilitated by school funding that is determined through property taxes.
Itās why Iāve always been dubious of the āif we just taxed the wealthy everything will be wonderful,ā like yes, the wealthy are great at avoiding paying their fair shareā¦but the phenomenon they describe is less of a conspiracy and more people with privilege protecting it, and thatās whatās done across the board.
The more money, the more avenues they have and therefore the more impact, but letās not pretend the upper middle and middle classes donāt find their own ways of keeping āoutsidersā out too
i'll be honest I did not think clavicular would go mainstream. then again, I also didn't think qanon would leave 4chan, and it actually resulted in people storming the US capitol building, so perhaps I have way too much faith in the median voter

Current twitter drama is Europeans confidently declaring that they don't need to drive or use overpriced public transport to get to the MetLife stadium for the World Cup; they will simply walk down the highway to get there. Girl it's New Jersey. They're gonna splatter you for fun.
If you manage to get on the turnpike before the cops stop you, a soccer mom is gonna do the Jersey slide in a RAV4 and turn your entire group into a wet speedbump
Iām praying for the future pilgrimage of Europeans who flood the highway to walk an hour plus to the World Cup while (significantly larger than youāre used to) cars are driving 70mph/112kph next to you.
Godspeed.
An hour long walk isnāt long for my fat American ass either, I hate driving and enjoy walking, but drivers donāt give a shit about pedestrian safety in areas designated for pedestrians, much less a highway.
Anyway, FIFAās cheap asses should pay up.
Let me gently push back on somethingā¦
