I had a great experience with accutane. To be sure, it's a harsh medication but 6 months of dry skin is far better than dealing with cystic acne for the rest of forever. My worst symptom was joint pain which was only a problem because I was working retail at the time so I'd be very sore after a shift.

After I finished the accutane I think I wait about a year before I had any other treatments on my skin. I had some severe purple scarring on my cheeks which required derm-level chemical peels to fade. I think I had 5-6 of those treatments and then for 2 or so years after that I got a monthly facial at a regular spa during which I sometimes did micro derm abrasion treatments and that really helped smooth out my overall skin texture.

This all took place between after 21-24 when I was a junior in college through my first year of law school. I stopped doing the facials in law school because I was too busy and I didn't think I needed them anymore (I'm also very low maintenance). Now I only occasionally get facials and just use the products I posted earlier as my day to day routine to maintain my skin.
