The same people said the same things about the 2002 Republicans.
Like I cannot possibly overstress the extent to which your opinion of Republicans in 2026 is isomorphic to the mainstream liberal opinion of Republicans in 2002.
Your successors will think the Republicans of 2050 are uniquely hateful and want to kill all non-white people, unlike the surprisingly cogent MAGAts. They will think it because it is what they need to think, and they will be as accurate as you are.
That epistemological context is not, in of itself, enough to falsify the claim.
Certaintly it should make you strongly suspicious, and less certain. But in the end it’s totally plausible that both:
A) We are strongly biased to believe an idea regardless of its actual merit
B) independent of the bias the idea has legitimate merit and is factually accurate.
All the 2000s libs and me, we both have basically the same emotional justification for what we think, yet we can’t both be right. The resolution is that they did not know some things that I now know; they thought they were right, but they were wrong, and I am right.
Some libs 30 years from now will undoubtedly once again claim that modern republicans have become so uniquely degraded that they are now far more evil than even what they used to be.
Will those libs be right like me or wrong like the bush critics? Don’t know! We don’t know the future, gotta wait and see.
